It's quite the treat when a piece of fiction comes to reality.
Most toys especially in this venue are pretty much bringing fiction to reality but the Hobbes stuff toy was just something else.
Even if there have only been a few instances of the 'real' Hobbes being shown in the comic strips... the look of these stuffed toys before them could still be associated with the character.
Unlike the other Creed Toys here, the Hobbes toy and the Hobbes which it is based on... seems to be designed to always be this way.
It was quite hard to describe it but this stuffed Hobbes was way better than all the Magic 8 Ball Jenga Hot Wheels comic book nonsense that they had to put up with.
In fact, stuffed Hobbes was way better than CareBears.
Of course, that was biased judgments made by biased people but not a lot could really defend CareBears in this event or in this Creed-infested part of the convention.
In any case, it was just a good day and a good place to be a Creed fan!
-----
Contrasting to the satisfaction and excitement of others around him, 'Fanboy' felt off... and he wanted to do something about it.
With his go-to move of asking the "questions" to Creed-related personnel... the fanboy moved to the representative handling the 'Calvin and Hobbes' area.
"Umm... excuse me?"
"Are you here to buy a Hobbes?" The representative replied. This new guy can't be any different than all the others that approached this way.
"I am... I will..." 'Fanboy' really wanted one. "...but that's not why I'm bothering you?"
"Are you asking about where Calvin is? Unfortunately, the lit... I mean... HQ hasn't greenlit him yet."
"Why?!" Fanboy felt that it was a travesty but he stuck to his original intent. "Let’s leave that for later... I'm more curious about where Back to the Future toys are?"
This was frankly Fanboy's concern as he had been a back-to-back watcher of Back to the Future. Before the Alex Creed screenwriter reveal, after it, and then a couple of times more for supreme support.
His line of sight was back to the entire row of Creed-themed areas and found it regretful that the phenomenal Back to the Future wasn't in contention. "Why aren't they here?"
"Erm..." The Calvin and Hobbes' representative didn't know if this guy was joking or not… but still enlightened the fellow. "We kind of ran out of space in this allocation but you do know that there are other Creed booths just opposite of ours, right?"
The fanboy went quiet with that though... as it took him a while to process things. He even looked in the general direction where the representative meant and it seems to be true. Curse his tunnel vision!
"Oh." 'Fanboy' just sounded that out as he tried slipping himself on the excited Creed crowd.
The Creed representative didn't blame the embarrassed fellow though. After all, the entire walk-in space was packed with people and it'd be hard to notice the booths and panels in that kind of traffic.
On the other hand, Fanboy was palming himself for his one-track mind. "What's wrong with me? Everything new I see... I fixate on it! This damned Comic-Con and all it offered."
Why did this Comic-Con just have everything that tickled his fancy? Can't they tone it down a little and give a nerd some space to breathe?
------
Blame others as he could or try as he might, 'Fanboy' was still the little noob fish that got caught up on the convention's wave.
In fact, it may have gotten worse as the big splash that Creed is making... had all the more gotten him swept up in all of it!
The Creed brand had really pulled out all the stops on this entire venue after all!
As it turns out, it wasn't just an entire row of toys that Creed was offering.
It had a whole new slew of nerd-tickling merchandise that it was putting out!
These new offers have even taken over an entire row that wasn’t anything less than what he had seen on the toy-dominated side.
As soon as 'Fanboy' got through the view-obstructing crowd and to the other side, he finally caught up to what the unexplored Creed stuff was all about.
-----
A flash here and a flash there... with a familiar clicking side to go with it.
Cameras were clearly taking pictures and the models taking a picture are people with clearly Creed-themed costumes.
Four green-suited guys with turtle-shell backpacks and color-coded mask bands were posing for the shot.
Of course, behind and above them was the encompassing background with the "Creed Comics" font gigantified. There was even the matching "Created by Alexander Creed" and the effect it should achieve in a picture frame was clearly the gimmick in all of it.
And that is why... waiting on the side is a cool-looking group with get-ups that were sophisticated with cat ears to top their heads.
Then, there was a blue-suited fellow with spiked-up hair, holding a boxed Phoenix Wright toy in his hand.
Not to be outdone and just behind the Phoenix fellow, there was a grown blond man with a Calvin-stiped theme for clothes. In his hands, was, of course, a recently-procured stuffed Hobbes.
Of course, there was a red jacket dude with skates in his hand... and if one didn't look closely enough, it would be hard to know who he was cosplaying as.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Also, as it turns out, the "bidding" gi wearers had moved on from their failed bids and lined up for a turn to take a picture as well.
Well... what do you know? Isn't that just a Photo Booth for a convention booth?
From the Turtles to Calvin to Marty... everyone in costume wanted to have that "Creed Comics" and "Created by Alexander Creed" plastered on their photos! There is a ‘little’ fine print of Comic-Con 1985 as well to tie up to the venue.
Of course, the real catch in all of this must be the costume-providing booth... which would in turn... urge non-costume owners to want to buy one.
It had to be known that as costume-filled as this convention might be, there are still people that went as their "norm".
'Fanboy' could count himself in that category as he was clearly new to the spirit of this Comic-Con. He could also count himself as someone to bring home costumes and bring home a photo with Creed Comics behind him.
Wouldn't that just look like a stylish Creed Comics cover page with himself finally being mashed in it?! He wouldn't miss out on that?!
-----
The costume and the cover page effect aside, there was other stuff being made available as well.
One that was clearly being sought-after and somewhat close to costumes... were T-shirts!
T-shirts are clearly something that you wouldn't shop for in these conditions but considering the prints that were plastered on them... it was a must-get!
The 'exclusive' and 'limited' bombshell was still roaming about after all... and these Creed-themed prints with stylish "Comic-Con 1985" text were clearly Comic-Con exclusives.
With artful prints of Goku and the rest of the Creed ensemble in these shirts, it made it all the more desirable!
It had to be understood that Creed-themed prints in clothing were incredibly hard to find. In fact, some might say that it didn't exist at all.
What a lot don't know is that Creed has put quite a heavy restriction on shirt merchandising. With these eye-catching shirts out about in this event... it was clear that they had opened up that floodgate!
With a debut in this Nerd-vana, the target audience has clearly been made known that Creed Clothes or Creed Apparel was finally here!
----
Of course, with Creed-themed apparel being given a go. Merchandising options had probably been given the green light too!
And sure enough... filling up the rest of this side of the convention were mugs, thermos, bags, and a whole lot of accessories that had popular and distinctive characters incorporated in them.
Frankly, a lot of people already have these types of things available in their homes but that didn't stop these Comic-Con attendees from buying them.
After all, what they had at home was bland and these things before them are offering appeal, "character", and a story that would make it unique.
Case in point, there were pin-up badges being sold here. Normally, a lot of people don't even care for that... but when they're yellow-circular badges with that Smiley and plastered red stain on them, they're completely of value now!
If that wasn't Watchmen's signature and iconic Smiley badge... then they didn't know what is!
Creed Merchandise had pretty much tested their market with these and it was due time that they fill the products that Creed fans didn't even know they want!
------
Of course, to finally fulfill the thing that 'Fanboy' felt off about... Back to the Future had its specific spot in all this.
While intermixed with these Creed merchandise... it also had its specified area... and rightfully so!
After all, aside from the little assortment of DeLorean time machine toys and BttF character toys, there was actually an actual DeLorean in the freaking vicinity!
That’s right! If eyes weren’t fooling them, then it was clearly a real DeLorean with a flux capacitor, time display, and all the boosters behind it!
'Fanboy' didn't know how he missed such a hulking mass of 'science fiction' coming to life... but it made the experience of catching sight of it all the more mystifying!
From the murmurs of all the people admiring the time-traveling automobile marvel, it is said that it was actually the true prop that the BttF filmmakers had used.
This meant that Marty and Einstein had sat on it... and if they were to go crazy about it, it meant that it had that temporal magic on it, too!
Of course, to top this already marvelous piece of motion picture gossip, there are actually BttF cast members set to situate themselves in this venue.
Question and answer and all that jazz were on schedule and Creed fans can't help but feel overwhelmed at all of this!
-----
The whole Creed splash was the real deal and no one was denying it now.
A lot were doubting that Creed could even pull something off in any Comic Convention.
Comic Cons seems to be about comic books and as dominating Creed Comics is... their comic books are way too young to be conventionally traded off or be considered as rare vintage to brag about.
They clearly knew this weakness of theirs well and just doubled down on other things that they're good at.
One can really tell that they didn't hold back on this one and some could even say that this particular area of Comic-Con might just be called Creed-Con for all that they managed to pull off!
