Perilous Situation, Cowardice and Unexpected Outcome

Perilous Situation, Cowardice and Unexpected Outcome

Nathan stared at the strange space blankly. After some time shifted his troubled eyes to his status panel his eyes had a gleam of fleeting curiosity. To be precise his eyes inadvertently and frequently went to his newly updated luck state which gave an overbearing title of some sort.

« System, tell me one thing honestly, does my luck change after the wish I made with a rainbow ribbon?» Nathan asked in a low solemn voice.

' Why does it take this long? I have a feeling, something's not right.'

[Ding... Answering the host, your luck state has indeed undergone a tremendous change. But unlike what you asked for, the attributes cannot be set to top of the world, besides world laws were constantly suppressing your luck which lead into current situation]

Nathan fell silent, frowningly thinking it through, « So what you are saying is the wish I made with a rainbow ticket somehow got wasted, is that it? »

' What do you mean suppressed, why the hell have I been kept targeted by this world will. Did this thing have no other job or anything?' he felt like tearing his hair out literally and helplessly.

Nathan never saw a transmigraters, having this much trouble when it comes to their cheats ' At least I got lucked out by having a nice family ' he consoled himself.

He knew it wasn't time to be depressed or zoned out, the time literally flying in the blink countdown came to an end 'Wait... did I really ask the system to max out my luck state or something? I don't remember even saying anything similar was-'

[Ding... Host exactly asked the system to raise your luck to maximum. System can't be blamed, system never went out of it way to bring trouble for host]

"..."

«Damn....alright I get it, I wasn't thinking so cool down.» If it wasn't for his special state it would be a sight, it's a pity no one would have witnessed how he was imitating ripened tomatoes.

Naturally Nathan was thin skinned, being a child once again, with his previous life character doesn't help much either though in his defense he did really kind of forget due to stress.

[ Luck was on host's side this time, say if Host instead maxed out your intelligence or vitality, host would have died horribly. System advice host to think before what you are asking for]

*Hiss!*

' It seems luck was really on my side, that time' he didn't understand the horrors of having luck nor did he understand the subtle changes in his behavior.

The tremendous amount of luck has started to influence him to a certain degree, it's just that he was too preoccupied to pay any attention to this.

' it looks like I really did say something similar, no use in fussing over spilled milk. What's more important was the situation he was currently in' he thought to himself.

«System, do you have any idea how I should go about this» he indeed felt a little embarrassed, Nathan felt more and more like some hypocrite.

What he really wanted to do was nothing more than wretch the control from system metaphysical grasp. 'Well, I shouldn't think or understand the system from a human perspective, it's a given since it doesn't have Consciousness then It couldn't be even said I hurt it's feeling by doing this, can I?' he reasoned besides Nathan was really afraid of becoming a slave to the system.

[ Replying Host's enquiry, there is barely any chance, system urge you to not act recklessly as host thought spilled milk can't be use to anyone]

«WHAT!» Nathan for a second bewildered then hesitantly asked, «You mean 'Don't cry over spilt Milk'... Okay I understand»

Despite its weird way of saying that, Nathan did understand the system telling him to think wisely, he gritted his teeth tightly, ' Yeah the system did act according to best of my intentions ' he stared at the ticking timer and steeled his nerves.

Nathan also felt he was being reckless ' I think, I could afford to act reckless, even if my luck got suppressed it shouldn't be by so much. I can't be a coward in this kind of situation, I don't want to regret anything' he roared in his heart, giving himself necessary courage.

« System, I don't intend to back down, don't you say there was a slight chance... Well I'm betting on it let's do it» he blabbered to the system with shaky confidence.

[But the host wasn't a gambler?]

Nathan lips twitched at a somewhat human-like question for once and he can't refute it. Strangely enough it calmed him down « Well, that's certainly true, but let me tell you something, it doesn't matter whether a person gambler or not. Once in a while there are situation like this pop up in one's life forced to choose 'this or that' if you aren't so sure of yourself, then you have no choice but choose one blindly»

Nathan chuckled lightly « And guess what, unlike those people what I have in my hand is the third choice it's only that I'm throwing it away sigh!»

[Host, just being delusional here, you are neither put into that kind of situation nor are you brave. Host, just being paranoid and self-destructive tonight]

"..."

[Ding... It deduced that the host had high blood pressure and a steady rise in mental stress... Warning, Warning! According to Protocol- ]

« Hell Naw!» *Phew!* «Stop with your protocol bulls*** Will ya? Don't talk nonsense with me, let's not waste our precious time. This is my choice, permanently lock the Mission Features for me... here my second rainbow ticket»

[Affirmative!]

The rainbow ribbon in his intangible hand disappeared like last time but he could only marvel at the scene having no knowledge how exactly that thing works.

[ Ding... The mission function permanently locked for host....By extension the shop function also permanently locked for Host]

[ Ding... Due to rare occurrences, the system offers another chance to unlock these two features. Would you like to hear it? ]

Nathan bit his lips, like the system said the shop function also got permanently locked as well. He indeed got a little sad, no more than a little sad but he couldn't do anything about this before he could relax, strange sounds blarred in his head.

« No! I refuse- »

*blaring*

' Damn, what the bloody hell is that? Ouch! System can you stop it my head felt like it got hit by a hammer' although it was a little exaggerated it was the truth, Nathan's having one of worst headaches in both life time.

[ Warning, Warning! There is a high possibility of system collapse due to instability ....Error.....protocol.....Ding.... Host has been.... Error.... It's estimated that in thirty minutes....Error]

«Hey what the hell is going on, don't scare me like this... System, Are you okay?» All of his confidence dissipated like that mist.

[Access denied...protocol number 02.....Authority level insufficient...Error... Ding... It detected that the world will be alerted by...]

Nathan froze as he heard the mention of world will, his intangible form little from panic. He has been trying hard to listen to what exactly the system is trying to say, frantically calling out for the system's attention but receiving no clear answer.

He could tell the system was trying to fix whatever had gone wrong and so far had no success, he also could tell it could answer him albeit like an old car radio, unclear and something interfering with it.

If he was true to himself then, Nathan indeed regretted his pig-headedness and lofty ideologies, just now he somehow felt that his life was about to come to an end. His form flickered fiercely like candle light in the stormy night.

Nathan knows he can't escape this calamity, everything slowed down for him knowingly or unknowingly he recalled everything that happened in this short amount of an hour.

« So what you are saying is that the wish I made with a rainbow ticket somehow got wasted, is that it? »

[Ding... Host exactly asked the system to raise your luck to maximum. System can't be blamed, system never went out of it way to bring trouble for host]

[But the host wasn't a gambler?]

« Well, that's certainly true, but let me tell you something, it doesn't matter whether a person gambler or not. Once in a while there are situation like this pop up in one's life forced to choose 'this or that' if you aren't so sure of yourself, then you have no choice but choose one blindly»

[Host, just being delusional here, you are neither put into that kind of situation nor are you brave. Host, just being paranoid and self-destructive tonight ]

[ Replying Host's enquiry, there is barely any chance, system urge you to not act recklessly as host thought spilled milk can't be use to anyone]

' So I'm really going to die just like that, I wonder what happened to me afterwards ' his mind started to cool down, he didn't put up any struggle against death.

Even though Nathan had some fear against it, as going through death once he understood one thing death is inevitable to everyone, there is no escape.

' It's futile to escape... I don't want...bitter struggle while dying' Nathan knows deep down he was being cowardly from his previous experience there is nothing he can do to prevent it.

So he let go of all his frustrations and strong emotions. He did indeed feel very bad for his grandpa, Thomas would have broken hearted if he found his pseudo grandson dead on his bed. ' Lizzy would be devastated.... I'm sorry everyone I have let down you all'

He felt ashamed, Nathan understood many things in that second and how much he cared for his family and felt guilty to put his family face the consequences of his own stupidity.

Let's hope she could be coping well, she just went for her first year and this happened to her little cousin. How could she be alright? She will have terrible time to concentrate on study and sitting exams

Although Lizzy might let go and forget about him one day.... as she grows up, but right now this is going to hit her like a Hogwarts Express, there is no denying in it. He blamed himself for affecting her life with his death.

His thoughts got sidetracked as he thought of something about wizarding world myths about after life.

'Was I going to meet my parents in after afterlife? did they know I'm not from this world. Are they watching me all this time? What if they don't want to see me?... Was there really one for wizards' he stared at his own transparent body and paid no attention to the clamoring system.

'So this time my death will be permanent didn't it' he doesn't know how to feel about it, he really want to live ' I'm really stupid heh,' he broodingly thought as his mind took dark dive he didn't pay any attention to the countdown which now come down to fifteen minutes.

He felt a slight warmth in his hand and mysteriously the last rainbow ribbon appeared in his hand. He was a little surprised by this but he threw those thoughts back of his mind and marveled at the texture of the ribbon.

His thoughts once again turned into lamenting ' Only got to live three years of good life and going to die again. I'm really.... Sigh!'

'This is something I expected deep down, with me being this incompetent what was there to expect I don't even capable enough to use three miraculous ticket smartly I deserve to die'

He indeed knows the uses of an extraordinary rainbow ribbon in his hand, but it couldn't be used on him in this situation having this no different than a normal- eh pretty ribbon to him.

' I'm not a girl, who is into ribbons' he then spoke to ribbons ' You can't save my life can you? There is no way you can help me out of this, if you can I would have use you right now-'

The ribbon with a glow dissipated from his hand, stunned, he looked at the timer doubting whether the countdown ended or not ' Er... There is seven something minutes left'

*Rumble* *Zing* *Rumble*

The whole space shook suddenly his soul form fluctuated greatly, although not affected by it directly he also shaken.

A blinding rainbow glow lit up the whole space, especially the humongous roulette in front of him which suddenly got shrunk like a shrinking spell.

It's changed into a three meter high one, it looks like a miniature one. There was a slight difference from the previous one from what he could tell, before he could see anything clearly, a few clouds of mists hiding it from him.

He felt a gentle pull then the space around him spun, his vision darkened.

'What happened...did I die once again?' he thought, but when he got his vision cleared he was stupefied 'This!..'
