With a subtle smirk Nathan started to munch on the chocolate cookies on his plate. Flitwick kept asking him questions to figure out his identity but Nathan was merely staring at the notebook with amusement.
He had no intention of answering any of his questions or playing along with his little games. He casually closes the notebook and puts it away; he likes to see how this head of his house is going to track Nathan whereabouts with those tracking charms.
Nathan undoubtedly admits, he doesn't know much about charms. But he knows one thing. Once he puts them into his inventory those tracking charms become useless. It was also the reason he dared to brag and tease Professor Flitwick
'Hmm, it tastes good ' Nathan thought to himself, the cookies were super tasty and wondered where Flitwick got these things. ' How delectable, when was the last time he had such delicacy in the early mornings?' he squinted his eyes and couldn't remember, Nathan sighed self-deprecatingly.
His sharp ears capture the soft sound of footsteps from the girls dormitory. Nathan first spotted the girl before the other party could notice him.
He jumped up like a scared little squirrel and noiselessly scurried over to the one of the book shelves on the sides. It's not that by doing this he was trying to grab the attention of the people to himself.
On the contrary he just wanted to avoid the situation of the girl from spotting him. He angle himself in a way which he thought could be a blind side to that girl. Nathan tried his best to minimize his presence further.
So even if she somehow noticed him, he could pretend to be browsing the books here and believe the girl couldn't disturb him. Afterall people don't butt in others' business.
Honestly if there was a broom closet or a secret room Nathan might have unhesitantly chosen to hide himself there. Even if he had to hide behind the couch or squeeze under the divan he was willing but he believes it wouldn't work.
The girl wore a maxi gray skirt and a cream color jumper and she had pinned her prefect badge on her left side of the breast. She looks delicate and harmless. To be honest he doesn't even know what her name was but still he doesn't want to be alone with a girl.
There was a strong reason for him to act like this. Nathan wasn't trying to pull out a Tsundere persona here. During all these years Nathan has developed something close to trauma for women in general.
Be it just girls or women he had met so far, all of them without a doubt left a deep impression on him. They were either heartless or brutal, not just this soft looking prefect even if it was Professor McGonagall he still would be wary of her.
Nathan and his cheeks had enough of their tender care. If they thought he could be a cuddly Teddy bear or an anxiety toy then they were surely mistaken.
You had thought people would have some basic manners or follow etiquette when they meet strangers? No! all of them were undoubtedly jealous of him and cruel to him.
Knowing that they were cruel and heartless would he be foolish enough to show up anywhere near them alone? Of course not! He wasn't dumb enough to put himself in danger in a new place like this.
Since either his grandpa or Lizzy are not here to push him to- ahem protect him. He decided to put up a desperate struggle or wouldn't they all think they already owned him.
Eye for an eye if someone dared to pinch him, then he wouldn't mind returning the courtesy. Anyway he was more skilled in combat, he highly doubted these girls know how to fight.
*Tap tap tap tap tap tap*
It seems like his ever flourishing luck finally decided to ditch him for good today. Nathan tensed up a little as he mentally tracked the trajectory of the prefect's path might lead to where he was now. He somehow felt the difference in the girl's footsteps, it became lighter.
His heart skipped a beat when he heard the footsteps come to stop right behind him. ' Go away, go away, go away, go away ' without turning to look back He silently chanted this in his heart.
Nathan waited with bated breath but there seems to be no other movements behind him. ' Was I perhaps imagined it? That doesn't seems right?' he asked himself, Nathan even forget with his special talent he could sense nearby magical Presences and as well people's emotions.
But even if he didn't use them, he could clearly feel someone's eye on the back of his head. He got little creeped out a weird thought appeared ' Could it be a ghost? ' image of Helena involuntarily appeared in his mind, perhaps it was peeves. I heard he can enter common rooms even dormitory '
Sure enough, there is really someone behind him " You aren't sleeping while standing are you? Then, perhaps are you playing statue?" a cold female voice asked, there is a tinge of confusion in her tone.
'With whom? This voice felt a little familiar... Where did I-'
"Err" he turned his head with his confused expression, echoed in the voice as well. ' Where did she pop up from? ' his eyes searched for the prefect girl.
"I asked were you playing statue here?" the girl asked once again she had a curious look on her face " well... You kind of look tense and stiff.. standing there like a statue. Are you feeling alright?" the girl further elaborated seeing Nathan's blank look.
"Why are you...Wait, You got sorted into Ravenclaw!?" he asked in a surprised tone.
The girl looked at him like ' Wasn't you asking the obvious ' kind of look. He frowned "Never mind!" With that he reached out and took a random children's story book without even looking at the cover and went back to his divan.
He let out a breath and was glad, when he found out she didn't follow him. He was a little embarrassed,' Damn she must have noticed I was nervous and scared ' he didn't even notice when she came down.
He only saw the sixth year prefect girl, if he noticed he would have prepared. While he was furiously thinking he didn't notice the girl was once again coming back. His hope got busted when he heard "Do you mind if I sit here? " The girl asked him politely.
Irked, Instead of answering her he asked back " Why are you kept bothering me? " he paused and he felt that it came out a little harsher than he intended. He looked up to the girl and her expression was unreadable.

He gestured for her to take a seat and haughtily commented " I don't own it yet, you can sit here for the time being " this sounds 'conceited' even for him.
She blinked as she sized him up with an amused smile. She calmly sat down " Thank you " and thanked him in the same cold voice. He merely nodded his head perfunctorily at her then turned his attention to the book on his hand, So was she.
' I didn't notice she got sorted into Ravenclaw last night ' he mused, still inwardly feeling tense ' I thought her whole family was with few exceptions senseless bigotes.'
' They were all pious slytherins through and through; How come this one got sorted into Ravenclaw? ' Nathan couldn't really figure it out so he put aside his thoughts.
Now that he thought about it, She was the reason why he got freaked out last night. Well it's not matter, whether it's indirectly or not. Nathan had to admit, he wasn't very comfortable with the girl being anywhere near him.
Not to mention he doesn't know anything about this girl at all. Which means she was dangerous to him; she wasn't mentioned in the Canon at all. What if she was like, resting her family or worse, crazy like Bellatrix Lestrstrange.
What if she was a person with some hidden agendas? He already decided to be cautious with her, Unknown elements could be extremely dangerous and detrimental sometimes.
He is kind of itching to read her thoughts so he could find out her motives for coming here. But he suppressed these thoughts and he wasn't anymore impulsive or foolish like before.
He learned some unforgettable lesson last time, how could someone from black family not know about such a thing. Clearly she might have some means to protect herself. He couldn't alert her.
He couldn't help but frown down at the story book in his hand. ' What the hell? ' he was dumbfounded. He just checked her emotions and the girl felt comfortable and content like a well fed baby. Although there was a tinge of worry, nervousness, excitement, expectation in her emotions.
He also had them despite knowing very much about Hogwarts. In fact Every first year had them to some level. 'Was I wrong? She simply looks like a lazy nerd' he mused. He tried his best to concentrate on the book in his hand.
But try as he might he felt extremely uncomfortable and wasn't as talented as the girl beside him in keeping his cool. " Was this that legendary 'inner peace'? Good lord! she is a talent alright ' How could one immerse themselves in a book just like that.
He thought first year students would have been too excited to sit still. So the more she looked content the more he felt uncomfortable. Fortunately for him there was another person coming down to relieve his misery and good heavens. This person was from a boys dormitory this time.
He decided that there and then, 'no matter what' He had to grab the attention of this person. 'He is my ticket ' he has this feeling. Only then could he find a way to slip away from here.
It was a thin boy with mushy brown hair, and had a sincere smiling face. 'Thank God it was just a first year ' he saw this boy last night, even talked to him a little; to be more precise they were roommates and they also shared the boat ride together.
Although he couldn't remember his roommate's name. He had some impression of him and could tell he is easy to talk to and looked like he was looking in their way as well.
He sighed in relief and couldn't help but mock the older years students. 'Where did those students from upper years do? Were they all pigs or something? So far only four people come down and three of them were first years '
'Really! What a let down ' he had this slight suspicion, if not for some urgent matter even the prefect wouldn't have come down. But since he was also a Ravenclaw he pretended to overlook it for now; If the other three houses learned of it wouldn't he also lose his dignity?
The boy clearly noticed them he enthusiastically waved his hand at them as he trotted towards them " Hey! Good Morning"
The boy unceremoniously plopped down beside Nathan " Man, it's too quiet here isn't it? If I hadn't known, I would have thought it's still early morning."
" No one has come down yet, At least I'm not alone here. How long since you guys sitting here " He jumped up and down on the divan Like a little monkey mumbling"soft " and"comfy ".
" Why is it, only three of us here? What about the rest? They Shouldn't have already gone down to the Great Hall should they? If so, should we wait for the prefects to bring us to the great Hall?"
" I heard our common room usually had lot of students studying in the morning?" he talked and fired off questions nonstop which made Nathan feel little ease, ' I'm not the only one thought so '
" That's what I thought, " Nathan shrugged. "I guess it's all just rumors. Seriously? Why would anyone bother to study on their very first day? " Nathan blurted out and froze immediately afraid these two would look at him with judgemental eyes.
" Well, that makes perfect sense, I don't think I can read a word even if you forced me. I mean, who would willingly cope up in a room " he exaggerated as if the space of their common room somehow became a crummy dungeon like in a diapilated castle.
Nathan or the girl didn't argue with him, he had only one thought in his mind that is to coax him to check out the castle and grounds with him. *Ahem* " So what's your plan today? Did you thought about what we talked last night in the dorm? " Nathan probed.
He never planned to explore the castle alone. Because of the accident yesterday he didn't had the time to rope in a few of his dorm mates. Nonetheless he was hoping to trick one or two to join him.
He underestimated the boy with brown hair, who sizing up Nathan after he said it "What are you talking about? We didn't talk about anything last night? " Nathan tried his best to not flush in embarrassment. ' Did he notice anything? Damn, this is embarrassing I, should have just asked him straight '
He could feel two pairs of eyes looking at him curiously. " Ah, sorry... I was too tired last night... I thought I talked to someone last night " Nathan lamely explained his face looked abashed.
" Well... I can understand. Last night you looked like you were about to cry or something. Are you feeling okay now?" The brown haired boy concernedly asked.
Nathan froze for a second not knowing what to say ' Are you sure, you were asking me this out of concern? It felt more like a pulling his leg ' with an awkward face he noncommittally said " Was I? I felt just tired, why would I'm going to cry?"
The boy has an awkward and uncomfortable look on his face. He stiffly shrugged, " I'm not saying you were crying, but you look like you were going to cry "
' What's the difference, can you please stop with your pathetic explanations. It makes things even worse ' The Boy suddenly had a look of understanding.
"You know.... I mean, it's completely normal, no need to get upset over this small matter. If that makes it any easier, let me share you something; I once heard from my second cousin that When she was in her first year, one of her dormmates was homesick burst out crying made a ruckus every night "
" And guess what, their head of house personally comes to their dorm and consoles her until late at night. Can you believe it? " the boy had an excited expression on his face
"You might not know but apparently professor Sprout is liked by everyone in her house " the boy said as he patted Nathan on the shoulder consolingly.
"Trust me it's normal " Nathan's face darkened in annoyance 'Excuse me, what do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm a girl or are you relating the fact that you and your cousin come across similar things? Or should I say you wanted me to make a scene too isn't it? '
The boy didn't seem to be done with this yet. He continuously added some other suggestions as if he hell bent on provoking Nathan to cry. " You really don't have to be ashamed we aren't Gryffindors, no one would judge you...Oh and remember her name was Amanda Crust from Hufflepuff "
"Huh? "
" My cousin's name! She is now in her fourth year....I'll introduce her at tonight's dinner." He further explained as if he was afraid Nathan wouldn't believe him " She asked me to meet up with her later tonight. You can come with me if you wanted to "
Nathan took a deep breath, he heard a chuckle turn to glare at the ' Black family' girl, Whose smirk disappeared as soon as he leveled a glare " Sorry, I don't mean to... I swea-"
"Hmph"
" It's fairly normal, just so you know. I also felt very emotional last night. It's my first time to separate from my family too. I barely control myself... Like what he says "no one gonna judge you if you cry " the girl spoke to him in a soft voice.
He struggled with his annoyance seeing the boy about to say something more. He took out the chocolate cookies from the inventory and cut off his nonsense "Here have some? They are good"
Nathan prefers his dignity over a half eaten plate of chocolate chip cookies. Had it not been for the fact that they both are children and didn't do it on purpose he would prank them to tears good for them he wasn't a bully.
" Where did this come from? " the girl asked in bewilderment. She didn't know from where he took this thing.
