A week has passed since Nathan came to Hogwarts. Nathan felt light hearted as he thought of the past week. Everything was going great for him and could be technically said to be in the phase integrating with his Hogwarts life.
First And foremost he likes to confidently say he has made some real friends this week they became a lot closer to each other than the week before.
He supposed it was the time for first years to socialize and make friends...well at least this was the case with most of the students. He also managed to sneak out for two night strolls with the help of his camouflage robe.
He decided to allocate an hour and half after curfew for two days a week. He figured he wasn't in any real rush to explore the castle; As for taking his friends with him, he could only say he didn't have patience and tolerance for it, not to mention risks.
Even with his unparalleled luck, he couldn't risk it. He wouldn't mind a thrilling outing with his friends at some point in this year or next year. Only time and a favorable situation could make this possible.
Nathan also sent a few letters to his grandpa and Lizzy. He was currently waiting for Nyx to bring a reply back from his grandpa. Nathan, although still feeling a little miffed, decided to forgive Lizzy for her prank on the train.
Didn't have the heart to send some nasty pranks with his letters. Just say he was in the good mood enjoying his school life.
He was currently alone in an unused classroom, sitting in the cold and hard windowsill. He told his friends some excuses and left them in the library and said he would meet them in the common room later after dinner.
*Fwish * *Flap flutter **flap*
A beautiful and regal looking raven with gleaming feathers magically appeared right above his head. Like it was teleported there and landed on his shoulder and reached out its leg. Nathan with familiarity carefully untied the letter from its leg.
"Thanks Nyx '' he opened the letter and read it carefully. As usual, Thomas' letters were almost the same; they were bland and stoic if it was not for a few new things and today's date he would have thought it was the letter he received the day before yesterday.
*Caw caw caw*
"Yeah, I'm going back to Ravenclaw tower, are you coming with me?" Nathan asked, slightly tilting his head towards Nyx.
*Caw caw caw *
" Yeah sure, we could sit here for some more time, " Nathan nodded. He once again re-read the letter. Despite being unimpressed by his grandpa's letter he was still very pleased and wouldn't mind reading them a couple of times despite not showing his worry and in his letters Nathan understood them really well.
The sky gradually turned darker even if he couldn't see from here. Nathan knew the sun was setting, letting him experience a beautiful moment indescribably stirring his heart. He eventually came back to himself.
"Tomorrow is Saturday. The first years didn't have any half day classes. I promise... we come out to play in the grounds or by the lake in the evening. How about it?" Nathan asked while folding his letter.
He could tell from their connections Nyx was really bored to be alone in the boys dormitory. Even though he often flies around the grounds he seems Missing the time like they used to.
Apparently he can't share owlery like owls, Nyx expressed they were hostile to him; so he had to settle down in first year dormitory with Nathan.
However Nathan had to say, he enjoyed his roommates expressions when they found out Nyx took shelter by Nathan's windowsill. Nonetheless He obliges to dispel their worries.
So he spent some time explaining Nyx's situation to them and further told how intelligent Nyx truly was. He had assured them Nyx wouldn't dirty the dorm.
Nathan really couldn't allow Nyx to fend for itself as it was still somewhat a fledgling juvenile. When he bought Nyx, it was a very small one month old fluffy hatchling. Because of him getting a pet to fulfill a hidden mission it grew to this size.
Apparently it wasn't a normal raven at least not after he bought it. The raven got bonded as his familiar via system meddlings. Maybe because of his inheritance or some other thing it got muted after a familiar bond formed.
It gained magical abilities related to darkness and phantom or intangibility. It can travel through dimension using its power as well turn its body to phantom like form which is Invulnerable to physical and magical attacks and hell it's fast.
Not only that, its lifespan expanded greatly far surpassing that of any of its species. Nathan suspects it might even live as long as he, wizard could live.
Obviously there is no such thing as familiar in the wizarding world. It's all some sick joke of the system but nonetheless Nathan wasn't complaining, after that familiar thingy Nyx kinda grew on him.
The title Beloved Master comes from him, even though Nathan was eccentric and unreliable named him Nyx thinking it was a female. Nyx still loved him a great deal; to gain his attention it even learned to say the words ' Clingy bird ' according to his estimation.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
But Nyx wasn't very used to speaking human language and stuck to expressing himself via their special connection. Nathan gained a lot though not only did he gained some understanding about beastairy his telepathic talent further honed from the inspirations he gained from his connection.
Back to the topic, he promised to spend some quality time with Nyx this weekend. About fifteen minutes later Nathan carefully get up from the windowsill Nyx flew out of his shoulder with one final *Caw*.
Nathan would go and open his window, Nyx would return to his stand or teleport to his stand late at night. ' I think he must have gotten some friends too' Nathan looked in the direction of a few scattered ravens and murder of crows flying around.
" I should better finish my potions essay before curfew" . They had three potion classes this week, one was double potions. Professor Snape dutifully assigned them their homework for the first week.
Only he and Mcgonagall were merciless enough to do such a thing, no one heartless enough to do that.... ' Hmm, the assignment professor Sprouts gave can be excluded' he corrected.
Everyone knows it is necessary when it comes to herbology. This will help students to remember a bunch of plants besides it wasn't even that hard shortest assignment if he ever did one.
He went up to his dormitory to freshen up and change his clothes. He fetched his backpack which had a parchment quill and a reference book he got from the library and went down.
He made his way straight towards their place which was a divan and two chairs. He made sure no one took their place, Nathan indeed played foul here but he hurt no one in any way just to give them some subtle suggestions.
It did take a few hours to finish this, now no one would find this place to their liking. Or simply find this place as unappealing; this indeed made him guilty.
So he decided that this would be the last time he made use of his talent for such a thing. When he started his essay, Nathan was forced to use his knowledge of Snape's personality.
He overheard Mcgonagall telling a muggleborn girl she wouldn't accept an assignment done in a ballpoint pen. Nathan assumed Snape would do the same.
Speaking about Snape Nathan did notice, he seems a little hostile towards Artemis from their first ever class. Nathan couldn't help but speculate a few things about Snape's hostile attitude towards the girl.
He felt it was very familiar because Nathan was itching to read one of their minds but unfortunately his deal with the system prevented him from doing so.
Snape didn't give him a second glance which made Nathan a little disappointed. He planned to awe the dungeon bat with his budding talent but it was cut in the nip.
They were paired up with Hufflepuffs, no surprise there. Nathan had to admit most of the puffs were decent in preparing ingredients.
So far no one gets detention or deduction of points; If not for his foreknowledge Nathan would have thought Snape was a forthright professor.
Another thing is that the thing he was most worried about didn't happen. A second year acquaintance informed him flying lessons only start next week. This did indeed alleviate a little bit of his concerns.
After an hour of doing assignments he went down for dinner. Unfortunately he didn't meet up with his friends there so he decided to head back to the common room and wait for them.
" Nathan, what are you doing?"
"Is that potion Essay? Don't we have three days?" Marcus asked as he and the three of them made a beeline towards him.
" The sooner it's done, the better. " Nathan replied without looking up.
"Should we copy it?" Eddie asked Marcus.
"Like hell I would allow that '' Nathan retrorted while rolling his eyes at them.
"Alright, let's rest for now " Eddie commented, he was clearly not in the mood to do any writing.
Artemis silently took out her books and parchments started to write her essay. " Nathan will you check mine whether it was okay after you done with your essay"
" Sure!" Nathan nonchalantly nodded, this wasn't much of a hassle. But he felt that with Snape being the git he was he would likely be trying to find fault with this girl.
Nathan knew they weren't unmotivated but just being lazy how someone sorted into Ravenclaw could waste away, it's not easy. Here your standing was more or less based on how better you are in academics. If you are just mediocre then your housemate will naturally look down on you.
Eventually Eddie and Marcus also took out their parchments and quills joined the two in writing homework. But they sure grumbled a lot, Nathan found their bickering kind of annoying.
"Here, I checked your essays. I Marked and corrected a few things for you three you can take it back it's not that different from mine " Nathan said.
The four of them went back to their dormitory, " Mate I don't know why you have to write extra foot long. It's not like he was giving you bonus marks " Eddie complained in annoyance.
"That's not possible. I heard Professor Snape was very biased towards his own house. Have you ever heard how he treats Gryffindors? I don't think you would get any point from doing something like this " Marcus seconded it.
The two of them felt a little irked by Nathan's extra foot long essay and the praises he got from teachers the whole week. It made them feel very plain and talentless.
Maybe it's because they know he was a studious person and outstanding student amongst the first year they can't compare. So tiny bit envious towards him.
" I don't do this because of him or some house points. I like to challenge myself, should I have to do everything for someone? Can't I study just for myself?"
“No one blamed you for anything? Please spare us O’ mighty wizard” Marcus mock bowed “Nah, I think we should instead call him Wicked Mage of West like peeves address him the other day” Eddie interjected him, then the two of them snickered at him before rushing to their dormitory.
Nathan just shook his head lightly. With his talent, how could he not tell these two felt a little sour by his performance. Obviously they were also a little upset when Nathan said he wouldn't let them copy his essay.
Although a little eccentric even Nathan knew well enough it wasn't what defined one's friendship. He believed friends could use one another. That's normal but they couldn't form their friendship based on some condition, demand or benefits he was very clear about these.
Since Nathan could accept them for who they are without calculating any gains from it in mind he too would expect the same. Nathan naturally understands the two of them more than they know him so Nathan wasn't anxious.
If someone were too anxious then it should be Artemis. Her personality and character collided with the three boys, even Eddie got into a heated argument with her one time over something Artemis unwittingly said.
As for Nathan and Marcus they both argued with her on more than one occasion. Nathan also had some doubts about why she didn't go chat with other first year girls or her dorm mates in the common room, classes or in the Great Hall.
He only saw her talk to Kate a few times, naturally the other two didn't think much of it or didn't notice it yet. Nathan couldn't bring himself to ask about this whenever he saw her expressionless face.
‘ It's not my problem, she didn't look like she would get bullied by girls easily…’ he trailed off.
