A Surprise Trip, Nathan's Shenanigans and Thomas' Predicament

Nathan was enjoying the two days of local tour so far. Though He didn't expect his grandpa to pull some crazy stunt suddenly as well as some minor annoyance everything went well. Out of all Nathan's speculations about his grandpa's secret plan he never saw this coming.

Nathan never expected him to bring him for first trekking experience, is this really okay? He didn't hear people would surprise their children on their birthday with a trekking trip. It even looks crazy for wizard standards.

Everything started like this, They both took pretty arranged portkey, which straightly brought them to a dense forest area so imagine his surprise when he magically transported them to freaking forest.

Nathan could tell Thomas, enjoying the surprised and bewildered look on his face, found it hard to not roll his eyes at the old man's antics. Thomas takes his time to tell about the forest as they officially begin their trekking This place called The Lake District a national park or something in Cumbria county never heard of it but he has other concerns.

Nathan was little apprehensive about the climate and more about local wildlife this could be said his first ever trip in forest in both life. Nathan wouldn't hide it; he was a little suspicious whether there were some magical beasts going to pop out in front of them at some point.

Apparently he was lacking confidence when it happened. Comes to something he has no knowledge about as a person from the 21st century. This wasn't something he should have worried about; he even watched some survival shows.

But the lack of confidence came from an unknown situation he knew very well. This wasn't his old world. He read novels being a fan of novels and movies he did even watch franchise movie series fantastic beasts he knew how dangerous magical animals could be he was internally freaking out.

If it's not for his faith in Thomas he might have gone into shock, venturing into forests might even throw temper tantrums to stay out of it. For some reason the concept of death terrified him though he did die in his old world which left him more questions than any answers he was looking for.

He didn't think there was any afterlife and stuff after what happened to him, not to mention the concept of death in the wizarding world was even more mysterious and wasn't really ready to face it.

Nathan didn't understand why the hell he got reincarnated into the wizarding world he didn't think JK Rowling was secretly a witch or in his previous world witches and wizards are hiding behind wards so what would happen to him after his death this time this question troubled him.

What if his existence was erased by something non-existent or got thrown into other folk tales in this world wouldn't it be terrible. Imagine he was thrown into Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump.

He was already struggling to live a normal life in this boring time period without a smartphone, internet. For the last three years they didn't have television. He often wondered whether or not Thomas might be one of those extreme magical people who detest muggle inventions.

But for the sake of keeping the appearance of a clueless child Nathan kept quiet or he definitely would have demanded television but it was barely tolerable with magical newspapers and portraits.

When Nathan expressed his trepidation for magical beasts All Nathan got from his mischievous grandpa was a carefree belly shaking laughter on his face. He was assured there wouldn't be any danger in this Area at least not with him on Nathan's side.

He also didn't know why his grandpa took him via portkey instead of apparition, since this place is only about 250 miles or something from where they live he didn't immediately ask anything as he knew he never saw anyone apparate in front of him.

It was either floor or portkey, most of the time Floo network it's usefulness far exceeded in this time around with its versatile uses and selective few rare times it was portkey. This gives him the feeling that wizards around the world consider apparition either unpleasant or dangerous.

He didn't think his grandpa was afraid to apparate or not know how to do apparition so he once again acted ignorant but also glad there wasn't any nasty surprise like knight bus. He really didn't want to experience anything awful on his birthday.

Thomas unsurprisingly brought everything they needed in his small backpack which obviously enchanted with expandable charm and other few useful charms. Nathan had to admit the hikin- ahem, the walking was quite nice he didn't have much trouble not even sprain his ankles.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Thomas was thoughtful enough to bring him via an easier trial which happened to have a nice black viewer. They put a tent on a nice looking place from where they could see the lake clearly.

Nathan half expected the national park authorities to come and warn them not sure whether this allowed but no such a thing happened for the rest of their stay there but he secretly wondered whether he placed some wards or there is no such security or patrol in this place.

In fact the tent was completely unnecessary as he heard Thomas said they would be leaving this park before sunset. It's just for formality. Even Nathan wasn't tired by all the walking and playing.

' May be this was to keep up appearance or grandpa wanted me to feel like they really enjoyed the trip '

He was surprised to find out his grandpa was capable of cooking, as he never saw it in him and always thought he didn't know how to cook. Nathan half expects Thomas to take out pre prepared food from the bag.

He knows these things can be kept warm with spells or even re-heated with a simple Charm if he asks. Earlier Zeffy would have made lunch in the jiffy.

" Grandpa, you can cook!? I didn't know you can actually cook " he asked as he wolfed down the sandwich and an egg dish.

Thomas seemed amused by his question " I really don't know how to cook but I am farsighted enough to learn a few simple dishes. Besides, learning these few simple dishes wasn't that hard and at times quite enjoyable."

Thomas said visibly looking somewhat nostalgic for a second Nathan thought he would be regaled with some childhood story or something but to Nathan's surprise Thomas kept quiet but strangely enough Nathan became a little upset seeing this.

Which surprised him greatly Nathan knew very well, he wasn't a good listener, he even deliberately showed impatience in one of these stories but now when he didn't hear why Thomas had this kind of expression he felt someone scratched his heart and couldn't sooth the strange itch.

Nathan keeps looking at his grandpa while taking quick bites of his sandwich. Few times he mustered up his courage to ask the questions but couldn't and felt he inwardly felt conflicted by something but couldn't put his fingers on it.

He hesitantly mustered up his courage while suppressing this unpleasant yet conflicting feeling pondered how to phrase his question. He doesn't know why Thomas stopped himself but something like this never happened and it felt weird and awkward to point out this may be a tiny bit embarrassing to show interest in these things.

' Whatever... let's ask him what's the matter with him ' he encouraged himself. Nathan was slightly suspicious of his grandpa's nostalgic yet intriguing expression ' Could it be a trap to arouse his curiosity? '

" W-what's on your mind grandpa, you kind of stopped from saying something th-there? " he struttingly asked, his face flushed ' This was because I'm still a child, since I'm only eight years old boy, I easily got curious... I'm not interested in this old man's story and nonsense '

Thomas silently looked at him with a raised eyebrow before casually explaining to him what's this all about " It's like this when I was younger we used to go on such spontaneous trips... I mean you can even think this as our family tradition"

" Your great grandfather William was a very outgoing person. Well, you can think of him as an adventurous person. '' He smiled as he thought of something. He took a sip of a steaming cup of coffee In his hands.

" He was very courageous as well, he told me once he often daringly ran into black forest of Hogwarts for exploration. He told me he got never attacked by magical beasts " Thomas chuckled lightly "He jokingly claimed to us he was too charming the magical beasts couldn't bear to hurt him"

As if he noticed Nathan's confused but pointed look Thomas nodded at him to be patient " He want us to experience the wonders of real magical world "

"what's that supposed to-"

"Shh, listen patiently I'm going there okay" Thomas gestured to him to be a little patient. " He thought we shouldn't limit ourselves to small circles. We are already hiding from muggles didn't we he kind of dissatisfied with this-"

" You mean he wanted to riot!..

I mean openly expose our kind to muggles " Nathan asked with wide eyes never in...even with his wild imagination thought there would be a surprise waiting for him.

' Never thought My 'good ol' great grandfather was a huge black sheep ' he thought himself didn't dare to say this out loud.

He knows full well how much Thomas appreciates and respects William and his character, Nathan wasn't ready for brutal scolding today.

Thomas looked at him pensively, Nathan inwardly rolling his eyes at his grandpa's so-called intimidating persona " I'm sorry... I wouldn't interrupt you again, promise" nonetheless he put on his act.

"What I meant by that statement was something else... Williams though little dissatisfied with our kind's current situation and muggles lack of understanding there is nothing single man like could do anything about this. he know about this very well "

" What I meant was he thought wizards and witches should explore magical side of wildlife little more there Is many things we don't know about magical beasts"

"He said 'There isn't just dragons and Phoenix but many other exotic species out there it's just that our kind too lazy to explore them' he believe there was a possibility some rare species go extinct because of muggles and it's likely muggles face danger from them as well"

Nathan was intrigued by the story even forget the fact as usual his grandpa got side tracked " He couldn't live the life he wanted at that chaotic time but he wanted at least one of us do that in his stead "

"Do What?" Nathan panickedly raises his voice " I would never ever go anywhere near those scary looking things... Grandpa, are you planning something? " Nathan panicked a little, which got even worse when he saw the amused smile on the old man's face.

"You remembered what happened last year right.. Right? That huge snake in the zoo . I was terrified by that thing. Please don't do this to me please please... If you planning something funny...i will complain to my great grandparents portrait let them scold you "

Thomas' smile froze. It could be seen he never expected this coming through all this was Nathan's imagination and misunderstanding something. It's true that he treats the portrait with care and respect; they were literally his parents and would often scold him to this date.

' How devious...Where is this all coming? Could it be...yeah that little brat Lizzy might have thought him these things' Thomas thought to himself, he found the situation awkward and embarrassing he was even a little afraid Nathan would true to his words go really complain.

' I have to teach her good lesson...nah I would write her a letter about this tomorrow ' Thomas frowned then his mind cleared little his face froze ' Wait was little Nathaniel just blackmail me ' * hiss * ' He really did it, this wouldn't do '

Thomas doesn't like or encourage this kind of behavior and steeled his heart to not to give in or Nathan might have thought blackmailing was okay. He was frustrated about little Nathaniel learning this kind of thing.
