Nathan hesitated at the end and didn't get off his bed to check which house the hat put him in. After a hectic day like that day he felt too tired to stay awake and worried about such trivial things. It's not like he can't find things in the morning so he fell asleep in a light mood.
When Nathan woke up it looked like it was very early in the morning. He couldn't tell the exact time with peculiar weather and the fog covering the castle. Something he read about ambient magic affecting the weather to a certain extent come to his mind, He sat up with a huff.
Nathan wished he had bought a watch for him when they went to Diagon Alley that day. In his nervousness and excitement he didn't even think about this matter 'Sigh, it was negligence on my part '
Though they did walk past a watch shop no one thought of this problem. Of course students use watches here. Although mechanical watches tend to give a lot of trouble here due to high concentration of ambient magic there was always a way to counter such problems. For example, enchanted watches have been in use for a long time.
Even Hogwarts does have a clock tower. Why does he have to forget this issue? and yeah he heard there are some nifty spells to check time and date. He learned that teachers teach a standard time charm to students somewhere between fourth year to sixth year at least that's what Thomas said.
And apparently no one stopped students from bringing such useful items. So far he observed the pure blood kids use pocket watches while muggle burns and half blood prefer now newly adapted fashion of wrist watches.
His grandpa once said that there is a tradition about 'Of Age'. It was usually when parents or the guardians of the child gave their children a pocket watch as a gift.
Nathan knows their family also adopted such a thing so when he turned seventeen it's very likely he received a pocket watch that belonged to his father or grandfather according to Thomas this traditional Symbolising Trust, respect and responsibility, expectations and whatnot they had for their kids.
Basically the adults shrug off their responsibility and put all sorts of expectations and dreams they couldn't realize in their life to their children, robbing their freedom. How ridiculous? The mind of these adults were really a mystery- *cough, cough* back to the topic.
Nathan was thankful it's only Sunday so no classes despite it being the first day. Even with his love for magic Nathan kind of felt relieved today was a stress free day. Nathan guessed it's only natural after all September second always couldn't be in week days.
He cast curious glances at his sleeping roommates, Nathan estimated they wouldn't wake up before ten. Unlike him whose biological clock is tempered with a heartless training regiment, these kids might be still tired from the journey and emotional rollercoaster they experienced yesterday.
Nathan hopped down the bed and tidied up his bed, a habit he developed under his Stoic Grandpa. "Huh!" He exclaimed in surprise and hesitated about something, then with a shrug Nathan opened his trunk, took out his toothbrush, towel and other stuff and left for the bathroom. Nathan couldn't help but feel a little lazy to do any physical exercise, and that made him lazy.
But it can't be helped Nathan was in no hurry to sneak out for the school grounds. He was really afraid that if he dared to go down he might not come back in time before breakfast. No thanks Nathan doesn't like to eat his breakfast with a dirty and sweaty body much less in front of the whole school.
Nathan washed up and got ready in less than an hour. He looked out of the window . It's still chilly and gloomy, barely any sunlight. Nathan estimated it's probably about seven in the morning.
He was already climbing down the stairs after he placed his trunk safely under his four-poster. There was a spring in his heels. To reach the common room he had to climb two sets of stairs that meant the first year dormitory was on the third floor and this will be his room for the next six years as well they had to stick with this floor.
Compared to that when he noticed the domed ceiling, vast circular room and infamous statue with a tiara he wasn't that surprised. Because as soon as Nathan looked around his dormitory he noticed the blue and white carpet with a house crest in the center. His dormitory was also vast. Everyone had generous space near their bed.
He had a dresser, a night stand, a slanted armchair, two bookcases, a stool, a writing desk and an armoire. A lamp hanging near his four posters with his empty cage placed near the foot of his bed with his trunk.
He didn't expect his dormitory decorate with pleasant and comfort instead of too much house colors. Aside from some banners and carpet, everything else looked simple and elegant. Bed curtains and curtains in the window were just some silver white cloths.
What astonished him was the common room, it seems not even the nerdiest nerd couldn't bother to get up early in the morning if their first day was Sunday. He sighed as he absentmindedly walked over to one of the couches
' Hmm, I shouldn't underestimate the passion of little ravens, who know maybe they were studying in their rooms ' Nathan thought to himself jokingly. Nathan is very well aware of the fact, one shouldn't judge people on his assumption alone.
Who is he to judge these nerds? Maybe he was a teeny tiny bit jealous of these kids. If it's not for the fact that he couldn't go back to sleep. He too would have slept till nine. He wouldn't mind skipping breakfast if necessary.
Nathan felt the common room was very much to his liking. It was exactly the kind what one would call as an airy one. One should able look at the forest and mountains from here easily.
Blue and bronze silk cloth hang in the walls and arched windows. Aside from some fluffy couches, the room is furnished with tables and chairs. There are also bookshelves placed neatly around 'Err was that bed?' he tilted his head.
There is a cool looking divan placed near the big fireplace. 'Wow, I'm really in the Ravenclaw common room! I thought I would surely get sorted into Gryffindor ' he thought to himself in surprise Nathan liked this atmosphere more.
[Ridiculous! How can be a coward like you get sorted into a house like Gryffindor and don't you dare to look down on the other two houses either. You are neither cunning or ambitious enough to sorted in Slytherin nor were you Hardworking, loyal and had tenacious will to sorted into Hufflepuff]
[ Your sorting was nothing but a farce. The poor thing couldn't make up it's mind to chase you out. The hat had no choice but to reluctantly burden this poor house with your presence. As far as I could tell, that pitiful thing mistakenly believed you had some keen mind and passion towards magic..hmm perhaps the hat tried to deceive itself with such speculations.]
[ Please open your useless eyes for once don't think too highly of yourself, An Oddball in the midst of weirdos, that's what you are nothing more.]
The system didn't hold back this morning as it ruthlessly scolded him. Nathan flushed and nearly tripped on the smooth carpet and could clearly feel a certain amount menace and frustration in its berating.
Feeling upset and extremely offended Nathan still didn't dare to flare up. He has a feeling the system might do something extreme. What did he do? He was merely expressing his thoughts and opinion. Although it maybe true that he did look down on the other two houses a little bit.
Nathan stiffened and ceased his surging dissatisfication. He could tell the system was palpating in anger and didn't want to risk provoking it when he had exciting day waiting in the castle for him.
He still couldn't help but vexed in his heart, was it necessary to be this ruthless? Was this how a system was supposed to act? Ridicule and Humiliate him heartlessly on his first day? Nathan never thought the system would out right humiliate him and try to ruin his mood.
But Nathan had no choice but to endure. He could tell it was pretty pissed by his stunt yesterday but he really thought it was a necessary move or things would have really turned worse for him. Compared to some meager system points, controlling the situation felt important last evening and Nathan didn't really regret his decision.
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
What irked him most was that, the system implying that he was a half baked fool as if he was never interested in reading or diligently pursuing magic in the past years. So why shouldn't he be sorted into ravenclaw? Was he not intelligent enough?
' Don't you think your words are too harsh? I get it you are still angry. It's still alright if you don't congratulate me. I'm a magnanimous person... but at least not ruin my mood...Was I really asking very much?' Nathan asked with a frown.
The system let out a snort-like sound and fell silent. It interestingly became more and more human like, Nathan felt depressed and wished he had that old system rather than this sadist and slavery system.
Nathan grumbled as he went to sit on an empty couch only to jump up a little "Huh!" he reached out and there was a shimmer of magic. A package box appeared with a paper attached on the top of it. ' Did someone forget this.. Err! A letter? '
To the lucky one of my house's little ravens. I sincerely like to welcome the lucky little fella to the exciting new year of Hogwarts. Ahem....If you are a first year student, don't worry or get confused by this package. This is a gift from me to the lucky one of this brand-new year so have no worries for I'm your head of the house Professor Filius Flitwick.
Ahem... I once again got a little excited there... It's my usual way of greeting my house Nestlings every year. I hide surprise gifts in the common room periodically to enthuse my students and raise their house spirit. *cough cough * Consider it as a welcome gift from me. Happy first day I wish you may soar into the sky soon.
P.s. If you find it hard to share this exciting piece of information With your friends. There is No need to fret..in fact It was my doing I like to keep this gift of mine as a secret.
He re-read the paper a few more times, his annoyance and anger with the system bleed off and amusement took its place. Nathan picture an excitingly squealing Flitwick in his mind the trauma from system harassment eased a lot.
Although he was surprised he didn't get suspicious by this gift Didn't think much about his head of the house Strange habits. As far as he knows Wizards are bunch weirdos not to mention this Diminutive Professor was very Eccentric though he couldn't compare to dumbbells or Dobby but Nathan was sure he was placed somewhere between Minerva and Arthur Weasley.
Not to mention his panel recognized this pack was indeed from one 'Filius Flitwick'. Nathan wasn't one to 'Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth' considering the fact with him here, no one should be more lucky than him in this world including the protagonist 'Harry Potter' who drank Felix Felicis.
Though Harry couldn't be categorized as a lucky protagonist. His luck at least helped him from defying death a handful of times. But on the other hand Nathan with his ridiculous luck stands out no matter where, he was born to astonish and amaze these pitiful wizard society.
This wasn't his arrogance speaking, he has every right to say so. In fact Ever Since he maxed out his luck stat he never encountered any bad things or accident excluding his own doing.
Of course his actions and pranks often mysteriously backfire on him, maybe because of the instability in his luck or its system doings he wasn't so sure of.
That's also the reason why he didn't dare to pull some ingenious pranks from his inventory. Even he felt that some of them weren't qualified to called as a prank so better safe than sorry.
Whatever the situation he was confident it will somehow end up favorable to him in the end. Of course he couldn't be called invincible with his luck alone. That's why he was working his **** off to become a capable wizard.
Nathan curiously opened the gift paper, inside the pack two slim books and a notebook and plate of chocolate cookies. He unhurriedly opened the thing and went to read the titles of the books he pursed his lips 'what's this, am I child? ' he munched the cookies his eyes lit up 'yummy!'
They were not exactly what he expect it could be and felt a little dis- appointed. One of them is a children 's story book called "Enchanter's fabulous Journey " while the other one was called " Light that shines through the Great Land for Millennium" which looked as though it was from old authors to annoy the reader with their rantings.
Nonetheless Nathan took a deep breath and helplessly started to check out the three things. If they are interesting he wouldn't mind giving them a few more looks when he had time, if not he could only put them in his trunk.
They are nothing more than extra weight. He would never put himself in the situation where he had to read things with extra effort; he didn't think it was a good mindset. Maybe his house mates might be able to pull that off but not him; he would only read them if it was enjoyable.
[Enjoyable! Haha, as expected of host. You once again proven to be unworthy to ever put it into this house. The hat misjudged you, was this how someone put into RavenClaw think? Your purpose here for study did you think the professors has any obligation to make it enjoyable]
Nathan furrowed his brow, his mind unintentionally recalled the face of Snape and the unseen face of Cuthbert Binns who didn't attend the welcome feast. He inwardly cringed but refrained from commenting on it.
Nathan turned his attention back to the books in his hands. The former was like a fairy tale with a character named Myrddin and the later was that amazingly a book written by a Nosy Raven claw student who was too curious for his own good. The book was generally about Hogwarts and his research and comprehension of the Castle.
' Seriously why did this fellow even do something like this, when he had O.W.L and N.E.W.T in his hand. I don't think I would ever bother with such a thing' Nathan shook his head as he turned the pages "Oho! " he gasped as he looked at the book with wide eyes.
Aside from all the boring stuff, the blessed boy obviously dedicated full chapters about secret passageways and maps and architecture knowledge he had about the castle.
Seeing this his eyes lit up. He carefully checked book for interesting chapters and found a note sticking on the last page.
It was printed personally by the headmaster of that time and there were very few copies. But not sold out to anyone so far this was given to professors and some lucky students from what he read from the note inside. Nathan wasn't sure how useful other research could be other than the few useful things about specific chapters Nathan happily put aside the book.
Nathan's eyes had this strange gleam in them as he look at that book. he felt like he really lucked out this time as well, He long fantasize to explore the castle slowly it seems with this book he already took a firm step on his plan he patted the book ' Even it's hard I had to read this thing thoroughly'
Nathan was initially afraid he would lose in this magic castle. So he was planning to ask someone from his dormitory to accompany him. Unfortunately he couldn't remember any of his room mates. He wondered how he behaved last night.
With a frown he took out the last thing, the notebook. it was a plain notebook with about hundred something pages with another note attached on it.
He read them with raised eyebrows. ' How ingenious? It's look like Flitwick is really a capable head of the house and reputable charms master '
Nathan this time impressed with his head of the house's dedication. The note is a confidence notebook, in which Students write down their worries and other problems and it will act as their friend giving them appropriate advice.
Though it suspiciously reminds him of certain things from canon. He still wants to praise Flitwick for his thoughtfulness and caring. A mischievous glint flashed In his eyes; he took out a small ballpoint pen from his pocket and wrote on his new notebook.
Dear faceless confident, I was so happy that I got this surprise gift pack from professor Flitwick. Could you really answer my questions and give me advice? Hehe, I don't know I would be this lucky this morning. Should I be allowed to tell this to my family? They told me from time to time I can't be impulsive and self thinking objects were dangerous.... Am I allowed to tell this matter to my family?
Nathan eyes alight with mirth but had to wait for nearly six to seven minutes before words started to appear right under his questions. Nathan sighed 'As expected I have to use this notebook sparingly' he thought to himself.
' Hello little one! I'm happy that you got this notebook and other gifts. Feel free to share your concerns with me, I'm not dangerous and yes you are allowed to write this matter to your family. I'm here for you take your time '
'How considerate!'
Is that so? Then I'm relieved, though I'm still a little sad that this notebook had very few pages. Professor you should have been enchanted with endless pages or something don't you think ? How am I supposed to talk to you for the rest of the school years? There are very few pages.
Nathan had to stop himself from giggling like a fool as he wrote that down. He already knew the one responding to him was his head of the house. ' Do you think first years are easy to trick?' his eyes shifted to the description on the panel.
[Enchanted notebook: A rare item, personally made by Hogwarts charms professor Filius Flitwick. It has been enchanted with a potent variation of protean charm. It has a pair, they acted as communication mediums between two individuals.]
[Enchantments - 3, A protein charm, Tracking charm, mild version of beguiling charm. Assessment - The enchantments on this note book were Barely Passable and very lacking in area. For a reputable charms master it's his half hearted attempt to enchant this items]
[Though his means and motives seem highly suspicious he did this out of his good will in his heart. It could be seen that eccentric charms professor using his means to build a bridge between him and students. Threats level - none]
[(Astonishment) Temporary points -300]
The silence this time only lasted about five minutes and Nathan watched once more as words appeared on his famous notebook
Err..Who? Little one was there misunderstanding? Hmmm! It seems you have mistakenly believed I was one of your professor. But in reality I was merely an enchanted notebook that charmed me to Listen and alleviate students' concern.
By the way you didn't write your name yet, may I know who you are and which year you were currently studying and was that a ball point pen?
'How rude! '
Nathan smirked a little, professor there is no need to keep up this farce with me. I know it's you and even know a little bit about the three enchantments you put on it.
If you don't admit it, no big deal....I'll stove it on the roof of the clock tower. Are you sure you wanted to see that happen? Why should I talk to someone who pretends to be a notebook, trying to deceive me?
Nathan's mischievous nature raised its head as he brazenly threatened his head of the house. with system assurance he knew his head of house wasn't an evil villain so he relaxed a lot.
In a timely manner he received just how much the charms professor suffered some emotional damage. He grinned 'I have to be extra careful...yeah I better not let him find my identity '
