Soaring Dragon Continent
“Mu’er” Yan Xiang cried out with her hand over her mouth.
Qiu Zhen was taken aback by this sudden shout. His heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. Seeing Yan Xiang up close really made all his emotions leak out from his face. He was blushing red, with his eyes beaming bright and wearing a nice smile on his face. Seeing the person he loved after fifteen years would cause any man to fall head over heels for them once again.
Chang Mo who was by Qiu Zhen’s side was also taken aback by this. He glanced at Qiu Zhen for a moment and noticed his expression. ‘Could these two really know each other?’ He thought to himself. Shaking his head slowly, he decided that shouldn’t be the case. His mother never left the Yan clan, so how could she met up with him? If she knew him, then he would have known.
Qiu Zhen couldn’t see the expression on Yan Xiang’s face because it was covered with a black veil, but he was almost a hundred percent sure she was excited to see him again. Only, it wasn’t really him. Qiu Zhen’s mood died down a little just thinking about it. She wasn’t excited to see him, she was excited to see the husband she lost, Chang Mu.
Yan Xiang shook her head a few times. Afterwords she removed her hand from her mouth and calmed herself down. The person in front of her looks like Chang Mu, but it is not him. He was dead, he will never return.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me…” She said softly.
Hearing her voice once again made Qiu Zhen tingle in the inside. It was like an angel whispering sweet music in his ears. Each and every word would make anyone’s heart jump out.
Chang Mo coughed once before looking at his mother.
“Mother, this is…” He looked at Qiu Zhen for a brief moment. He couldn’t recall his name, or rather he never actually got his name.
Qiu Zhen laughed inwardly. He bowed to Yan Xiang while introducing himself. “This young one is named Qiu Zhen. I’m a friend of Chang Mu.”
“Right mother, Qiu Zhen.” Chang Mo agreed.
Yan Xiang’s eyes couldn’t be seen, but she was looking the young man up and down checking him out. No matter how she looked at him, he had the same exact appearance of Chang Mu. Even her own son didn’t resemble him as much as this child did. She thought to herself and wondered if Chang Mu had another child.
Such a thought would be natural to a woman. If a random young man came up to you with the appearance of your late husband, you’ll assume the same thing. Even if a man can take on more than one wife, Chang Mu hasn’t.
She thought of what he said, but couldn’t believe it. She knew all of Chang Mu’s friends, so she would have known this child. Not to mention going by his size and appearance gives her this suspicious feeling. He can’t be more than fifteen or seventeen years old, so how could he know her husband?
“You said you’re a friend of my husband? Then why haven’t I heard of you before?” She questioned him.
She had the rights to question Qiu Zhen. This was highly suspicious that such a young man would say such a thing. If he couldn’t provide an answer, then he was here for another reason. She probed him for his cultivation, but she couldn’t sense anything. Her eyes landed on her son and a drop of cold sweat appeared on her forehead.
Qiu Zhen’s cultivation wasn’t able to be seen by her, so her son wouldn’t be able to see it either. The young man in front of her seemed so mysterious. That added on to the fact that this was her first time seeing him, and he was with her son makes him very suspicious. She placed her hand under the table and a small dagger appeared in it. No matter what, she would make the first move.
“It’s natural you wouldn’t have heard of me before. I personally don’t know Chang Mu, but my father has told me stories of you both. I can even tell you of the time you both attended school. Or how about the time you were caught in God Winds forest fleeing for your life?”
Qiu Zhen was completely confident. He was really Chang Mu so he knew everything he did with Yan Xiang. No matter what type of question she would ask him, he would have an answer for it.
Her expression was hidden, but Yan Xiang was very shocked. The amount of people who knew things about her and Chang Mu’s life and adventures were very few. In fact the number of people who knew could be counted on one hand! Yet, this young man in front of her seemingly knew of some of their adventures. She couldn’t believe it, but she couldn’t deny the fact when it was standing right in front of her face.
“If your father really knew of Mu’er, then he would know of ‘that’ day.” Yan Xiang emphasized that because it was a day that she didn’t like talking about. However as long as the young man in front of her knew what ‘that’ was, then she would accept the fact that he was a friend. ‘That’ day was something that Chang Mu only told to those very close to him.
Seeing how Yan Xiang brought ‘that’ day up, Qiu Zhen knew he was getting closer to her. Not in a love sense, but in a comradery sense. Qiu Zhen highly doubted that she would marry anyone again, but it didn’t sadden him much. This woman was truly his soul mate. Not even when he died did she go and remarry, instead she stayed a widow. It made him happy, but also slightly sad. It hurt him to see such a good woman living alone.
‘That’ day referred to the night they graduated from the academy. It just so happened that Chang Mu was lucky enough to get her to agree to go on a date with him. Of course, at the time her clan was still against them being together, but he didn’t care. That same night was almost ruined when those men tried to take her by force. They succeed, but they also died. ‘That’ day changed both of them forever.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
Qiu Zhen nodded his head. He knew exactly what that day referred to and all the people who knew about it. “Of course I know.” Qiu Zhen looked at Chang Mo who was confused as to what that day referred to.
If another person asked someone if they knew what happened ‘that’ day, they would ask what day. This could only mean that they didn’t know what happened or were not in the loop. Seeing as to how Chang Mo was confused, Qiu Zhen was happy. He didn’t want his son to know of the events that transpired that day.
Qiu Zhen looked back at Yan Xiang. “That day was the same day you and Chang Mu had your first date. Only… it was interrupted…” Qiu Zhen ended it right there, he knew that he shouldn’t continue. At least not in the presence of Chang Mo.
Yan Xiang took a deep breath and sighed. It seems that he truly knew of some of the events that happened to her and Chang Mu. Only the highly trustworthy knew of such events. Yan Xiang put the dagger back in her ring and calmed down. She could finally let her guard down against Qiu Zhen.
“You said you have a message from Mu’er, what is it?” She asked Qiu Zhen.
Qiu Zhen didn’t really have a message for her, he just wanted to see her one more time. He wanted to tell her that he returned, but he couldn’t do that. If he said such a thing, his head would likely fly off the next instance. Who could tell their wife that their husband returned from the dead, only to be in the body of a child. Anyone would think that is a lie, no matter how much that child knew.
Qiu Zhen nodded. “Chang Mu left a message to my father for you. It was to be given to you if he ever died. There was a reason he left it to my father, that is because he knew he would be the most trustworthy person. He didn’t entrust it to his brother because Chang Chi isn’t that trustworthy. Only the most trustworthy person should be able to learn such a message, which is why he left it to my father. However my father is too old and can’t move around much therefore he entrusted it to me. It took a while to meet you, but I finally did. Now I can fulfill your husband's last wishes.”
Yan Xiang’s eyes flashed with coldness as she nodded her head. Her son might not have understood what Qiu Zhen said, but she did. He said trustworthy too many times and even said Chang Chi’s name. Usually if one called Chang Chi, they would say Emperor Chi instead. However, this young man said his complete name. She had a feeling that Chang Chi was not completely trustworthy, but now that feeling solidified.
“Continue.” She said.
“Yan’er, if you are still here, then know that the heavens were not on my side. The day I die, I never thought such a thing would happen to me. If I died, that must mean I was too weak to get rid of the threat. That, or I was betrayed by someone close. Yan’er, I know I said I would capture every star in the sky for you. I know I said I would carve our name in the heavens. This cannot happen anymore. My time in this world is up, but I don’t care for the heavens. No matter in what life, in what world, I will always watch over you. Even if I have to spend every moment staying dead, I will watch over you. Of all the women who caught my eye, you were the most alluring. The most beautiful. The smartest. You were the light that shined in my darkest moments. No matter how you feel, no matter what you have to do. You have to get over me. A woman like you is too good to be by theirself. Live your life to the fullest. Find someone who can cast a shadow over me and do the things I could not. No matter how hard it is, you must do it. The only thing I wished for besides being at the top was for you to be truly happy. I know that my death has affected you. I know that by me not being there for you, you feel lost in the world. However you can’t let me hold you back. There will be a day when someone better, someone stronger and wiser comes to you. You might not know it, but it could be me guiding them to you. Take their hand and let them lead you to the life you deserve. Under the heavens, above the earth, I, Chang Mu will always watch over you.”
Yan Xiang started sobbing, while Chang Mo hung his head in shame. Qiu Zhen stood there while gathering his feelings.
“Qiu Zhen, you still up.” A voice called out.
Qiu Zhen shook his head and looked towards the door. He thought about what happened the other night and sighed to himself. ‘It’s better this way.’ He told himself as he got up and opened the door.
At the door was Gan Fang. He seemed to be in a happy mood too, his face seemed to glow. He looked at Qiu Zhen and frowned. “Why do you look like you’ve went through hell and back?” He asked.
Qiu Zhen shook his head. “Just thought of something that weighed me down.” He replied back.
Gan Fang knitted his brows, he didn’t know what Qiu Zhen was talking about. However he knew it must have been something depressing, but he never noticed Qiu Zhen leaving his room. Gan Fang Shrugged.
“Where’s little Mu?” Gan Fang asked.
Qiu Zhen turned his head and pointed towards the bed. On the bed was the little baby monkey who had snot coming out of his nose and sleeping. “Sleep.”
“Is that all he does? Such a creature is strange, would have been better if he was a demonic beast instead.” Gan Fang said while laughing.
Whenever he seen the baby monkey, it was always sleeping. The little thing seemed to have a carefree life and always around Qiu Zhen. Gan Fang didn’t know why Qiu Zhen kept the thing, but he didn’t ask. A man has a few secrets and things he likes to keep to himself.
“So, do you need something?” Qiu Zhen asked.
Gan Fang nodded, “Elder Wei has asked for you.”
Qiu Zhen sighed. “Old man probably isn’t going to give me anything, better not go.”
“Should have just became a disciple of my master. Although he said he doesn’t like kids much…”
Qiu Zhen laughed. Kid, right.
Him and Gan Fang talked for a brief moment before Gan Fang left. In a few hours time, the tournament would start. Both of them had to be ready.
