Prologue to chapter 33: Signs of the beginning

The first upper plane

The Reincarnation Cycle, Limen

Limen, better known as the reincarnation cycle and a  place where souls go to be reborn. On the first upper plane, the reincarnation cycle is commonly known as Limen. The first lower plane of the reincarnation cycle is known by a different name, Initium. The reincarnation cycle is located on both the first upper and lower planes and both planes had saints to guard the reincarnation cycle.

The reason why the reincarnation cycle exists on both first upper and lower planes is because of how souls are reborn. Just like how good souls are reborn, so do bad souls. But the process for these two are different as the lower plane has a higher requirement to reborn.

When the people who guarded the reincarnation cycle saw that Urian was being thrown down, they were shocked. The process of rebirth is long and winding because souls has to be judged before being able to reincarnate. But Urian bypassed everything without being caught by the restrictions within the reincarnation cycles.

His soul landed near the core of the reincarnation cycle half stunned. Never would he had thought that Lucian was able to beat him.

Throughout his life, he was always overwhelmingly stronger than Lucian. To be honest, subconsciously, he didn’t really want to kill him.

Being an overseer, all he would need to do is draw power from the heavens and Lucian would most likely be dead by the power of law or even saying the word “die”.

He didn’t think he would get so emotional after the loss. ‘That was a bit embarrassing…’

His eyes gazes upon the material planes and the upper planes. Never once would he have thought that he, an overseer of the heavens, would one day go through reincarnation once more as well. “I’ve reincarnated several times. But nothing like this…” he sighed.

He thought about the efforts he made to become a saint. From then on, worked hard to ascend up into an overseer. A journey that would usually take many life times if not eons to complete.

Friends, families, and lovers… He had them all that walked by his side during his journey.

One by one, Urian watched his family members and friends leave his side. Some of them were unable to become immortals while others chose to reincarnate.

Of the many people in his life, those two, Eruhiyo and Lucian, were by his side the longest.

If he were to define someone as his best friend, it would definitely be Lucian.

Lucian was the trouble maker with Urian himself being the luckiest and reliable of the bunch who likes seeing Lucian stirring up a “sh*t storm of troubles”. Eruhiyo on the other hand was much more sensible and serious in the three.

“Strange… I don’t miss being an overseer.”

“Lucian was condemned to be thrown out of heaven for the murder of eighty one paragons. But his value far exceeded the values of hundreds of paragons. Maybe it was a mistake to listen to the people…”

An overseer couldn’t ignore the voice of the people though. His position as Overseer was synonymous to a fatherly figure watching over his children. At the same time, it was also a position of power that belongs only to world leaders.

If he were to ignore his people, they could simply overthrow him which rarely happens to overseers. An overseer isn’t invincible after all.

If the people wants to over throw a god, then all they would need is seventy percent of the vote in the heavens. Another way is if enough paragons would get involve and overthrow some of the gods themselves if they were deemed incompetent.

To the gods that were deemed incompetent, they were thrown out of heaven to wander the higher planes till the day they die. Some were even cut off from the energies of the heaven. Without qi, even gods will die eventually. It was similar to Lucian’s situation.

No saint would want to help Lucian after being casted out of heaven. Neither the beings of the higher planes or lower planes would want to help too.

In their eyes, those who were casted out of the nine heavens would be considered the worst types of people. It also gave people an excuse to kill these outsiders down in cold blood or greed.

Urian stared upward at the nine heavens above.  “Heaven… isn’t what it used to be either. Heh… Strange. An overseer fears his people… But he also has to be a strict father to them in order for heaven to function properly…”

“Overseer!!!!” Urian heard his name being called out.

People rushed in from all directions towards him with worried expressions. “What happened to you?”

Thinking for a minute, he smiled and said, “I’ve retired. Lucian is your overseer now.”

“!!! Retired!? You can’t do that! Not in his hands!” a tall and bony saint said.

“Oh? I personally think it is more interesting heh heh.” The ex-overseer chuckled.

“Are you even listening to yourself!?” a burly woman came up snorting fire. “You are the head of the heavens! Not him! So go back and re-claim your rightful place!”

“… I can’t do that. Actually, I don’t want to.”

A statement made by the ex-overseer shocked everyone.

“You don’t want to!?”

“If you let Lucian become overseer, he will demolish the heavens!”

“Think of how many saints will die because of him! Think about the people!”

“What if Lucian becomes another demon like that demon Solitude!? What if he joins forces with him?”

Soon, more and more people came down to see the commotion and also caught up with the situation. The more they talked, the more they bombarded Urian with pleas, criticism and insults. They couldn’t accept that Urian lost despite him being overseer. To them, he was the black hole in the center of a galaxy while Lucian was just a star within the seas of stars. How could a black hole lose to a mere sun in the sky!?

Everyone, in a way, tried to control the ex-overseer with pressure. Some were careful with their words and hinted towards insulting remarks.

Urian didn’t bother to shut them up with words. He breathed deeply before saying, “Mortem.”

Whoever Urian didn’t like, invisible hands reached out and grabbed onto their souls and shattered them to pieces, leaving behind empty husks. That being said, those who he think insulted him as well as tried to make his career as overseer horrible, they died a quick death. Their saint bodies was left behind and imploded in the following moment.

When the people look back and saw how many saints died, their minds and heart trembled with fear. It was only now that they remember that he was not an overseer anymore and that he was still a strong saint in the heavens. Just because he retired, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t kill. All he really did, or all that really happened to him, was him returning to a life before luxury. Before, they were able to push him around. Now, he can’t be “ordered” around anymore. He could kill anyone who pisses him off.

“I know who are trying to conspire against me and those who don’t like me. I don’t care. You guys will have a more fun overseer than me. And trust me when I say he is fun. There won’t be a doubt that the real story will start soon if he snaps.”

While Urian was speaking, a man in black robes stepped out and said, “Are you done? My confusion?”

The people’s eyes stared silently in shock at the man’s words. But what was more shocking came afterwards. The man in black robes took off his hood but his head was obscured by a strange protective shining white flame.

Urian instantly recognized this man. “Of course… Original”

Urian placed his hand on the other man’s chest, right where the heart is located.

*Boom*

Waves of pure qi broke the silence and caught the attentions of the heavens above. Soon, many beings came rushing down from the upper planes.

The saints and higher plane being, as well as Solitude who was carrying Lucian down, and the people who followed him saw the unbelievable sight. Urian and the man fused.

Their fleshly body and soul became one.

Normally, fusion between two bodies was nearly impossible for saints because there were conditions to be met.

The only conclusion that everyone could come up with was that the two were one person originally!

Urian must’ve broke a piece of his soul and then formed a fleshy vessel for it to grow.

A common but difficult technique that only higher saints uses to either extend their life or increase their cultivation base.

Urian turned to Solitude and smiled from ear to ear. “Solitude! Seems like you like your new host don’t you?”

Solitude exhaled pitch black qi out into space with no intentions to harm people.

Ban recognized this type of technique. It was a common devil’s technique but on a higher level. ‘This qi… it’s to isolate him and Urian so only they can hear each other… but I can make a small hole through this. *Snort* But… walking is much easier…”

Ban pushed his way though the crowd using his memories and eventually reached to the place where Urian and Solitude was.

Urian was quite surprise. He thought Solitude would attack him. “What’s this? This isn’t interesting. It’s boring. Dark fog and all that. Why should the two of us should hear? You are Jin. Yet you are not. Why not let the world hear WHO and WHAT you are!”

Solitude grabbed the dark fog he breathed out and pulled it. Small dots of light could be seen encased within the dark qi.

“Faith essence? Okay now that was interesting. So he did this so Lucian can recover quickly. Invoking his legend name burned too much qi and thus Solitude need to replenish it. Similar to his white shadow arts, but more convenient. Not bad.”

In Solitude’s arms, Lucian who was supposedly sleeping, woke up. ‘Ngh... Where… !!!’

He jumped out of Solitude’s arms frantically looking around. “Ban! How long was I asleep?”

“… Not long. Soli just woke you up. Here, want a piece of pie I saved up for recovering from a long hang over?”

“You?”

“You can thank me later. However, do not call me Soli.” His body melded with the darkness and disappeared.

“Urian? Is that you? You feel… a hell lot different.”

“*Che* He ruined my surprise. Oh well. Boring guy anyhow… Come. The real beginning is about to start. Aren’t you all exicted!?”

Lucian’s eyes narrowed and his eyebrows furrowed. “This… was it all…”

Urian body violently shook with excitement, “You’ve guessed it! 'Cept this time, you are the overseer Lucian and not me!” a hint of cruelty seeped through his words and everyone who was from the heavens knew what this meant.

“The hell you mean!? Heroes and villains will rise and fall in this exciting new and grand tale! And Jin! Will be in the center of all of it!” Urian cried out in joy. “Will he become a paragon of light!? A corrupted paragon of darkness? Or maybe… Something more?”

Lucian murmured to himself before putting together the pieces of new information. “Everything was planned along with Chronos and the other time gods… So it was you! You were the distruptor! What about the Arcadia!? What are you planning Urian!”

Urian nonchalantly spoke without a care in the world. “Hey. People always did say that Jin didn’t deserve to be a saint or a paragon right? So we might as well show them in the flashiest way possible! I really didn’t calculate you kicking my ass and becoming Overseer. I gotta love these surprises. :D Why don’t we take a look at Jin now through his view? Everything will begin from zero!”

*Clap*Clap*

Everyone disappeared in an instant and was teleported to where they belong.

Alone up in the first plane, Urian smiled down on the mortal plane below. In his mind, he could hear the resonance within the heavens.

Lightning, flames, torrents of water, breaths of the wind, streams of life, contrails of death and many more elements from the ninth plane shook. A sword forged in the heavenly fires burned the sheath it was kept in. A small orb that foretells the future clouded up. Of all the objects that were resonating within the ninth plane in the ninth heaven, a small book blank book glowed brightly. It flew down from the ninth heaven and into Urian's hands.

On the very first page of the book, fire ignited and the burning words reads, "People fear power. People fear corruption. In society, these two things are the most fearful aspects of society and in people. People are scared that their government is corrupt.

But what the people should fear the most should not just be the sick governing head. If the people themselves are corrupt so will the state of the body of this world will become sickly and corrupt.

You, my guardian, who stands alone... Stand up for what is right. Even if it means you have to do it alone."

When Urian read those words, his eyes lit up even brighter than before. 'It is time for the world to under go metamorphosis! Show me what you can do Jin!' Urian's feet stepped through the reincarnation pillar of light and vanished.
