Chapter 18: Why go back into the darkness?

Chapter 18: Why go back into the darkness?

Now that Jin got his possible sources for information, he just needs to keep his promise with the casino boss. But to keep it, he would need not only the blood samples of the boss but his wife, sons’, and daughters’ blood samples. Which is why he had to go break into a hospital before he went to Mammon. Inside the laptop was a jamming device to stop all electrical device for a short time. So security was useless. Even the security guards were useless because they were bribed. “Almost sad to know that even blood samples can be gotten easily with just a few bucks of money.” Jin sighed.

But the blood he was aiming for wasn’t only the boss’ blood and his family, but others who had hereditary diseases. He also copied documents of these diseases and how they were cured. When he read over some of the documents, he found that the boss’ hereditary disease was like HIV added with another disease.

“It is almost as if this disease was man made… and alive…” Jin was shocked when he read the other records which was similar to the boss’. There were many who had the same disease. The disease also mutated over time and branched off into many different forms. Some of the diseases de-evolved and were weaker and thus died by the human immunity system. But others evolved in many different ways. One was where a man had sexual intercourse and the two had the same disease ten years later due to the carrier passing it on. The second case was where a woman had a b*kk*ke with many men and some had AIDS. The virus evolved when it came in contact with aids. “Why? Why did some de-evolve and others mutated and evolved to an even worse form?” But he did not have time to read all the records, he still had to move his plan into his second phase.

He quickly collected multiple drugs be it big or small and stuffed them into the large suitcases along with viruses and poisons.

The second phase of the plan was harder. He needed a place to work to make the medicines. It had to be discreet and away from prying eyes. But he also needed people to be tested out on. Which is why he had to get Lucian’s help. Time was running out.

There were only a few hours before dawn and so he did something unforgivable. He went to an underground slave trading center. A place where slaves were sold no matter the age.

‘Lucian. Ban. Can you guys help me?’ Jin asks the two.

When being called, the two naturally came and appeared in front of him in the flesh. “What is it Jin? I was sleeping…” Ban yawned.

“Ah forget him. I can help you out. This lazy panda can just go to sleep” Lucian joked.

“…I’ll help…. I just woke up because he called you know…” Ban shifted his eyes.

“Ban. Lucian. I need your help to raid slaves.” Jin said in a clear tone.

This got two to open their eyes widely. “S-s-slaves? What!?” Lucian never felt so appalled.

“I need people to test out drugs and viruses on. Slaves are perfect for that. If one has money to buy them, then they can be used for whatever purposes. For me, I am an expert scientist and worked as one since I was young. I’ll use certain drugs to test out a cure for the disease. But they won’t die. I’ve never failed in saving anyone before. But I really need help to get them. Can you guys do it?” Jin solemnly said in a deep tone. “Please. I can’t do it alone. If this goes successful, not only will some people have a cure to this type of hereditary disease, but the slaves can and will be freed. I can make it possible. I can also restore their mental state. I just need your help in getting the locations and people to help me out” Jin desperately pleaded.

The two felt uneasy. It was because the two detested slaves. Hearing Jin wanting to use slaves got them slightly mad but they could understand his feelings. They already knew what type of person Jin was. It was they who sealed his memories after all. They already seen him working as a doctor and a surgeon when he was thirteen. Though they can’t see all of his memories, they knew enough. He could be considered a genius at hard work because he made all efforts to save his patients. Of course, he was an underground doctor so it was illegal.

‘What do you want us to do?’ Lucian steps forward.

‘I’ll help out as well. I may not look like it, but I was a genius scientist as well Jin” Ban puffs up his chest when he heard that Jin wanted to save the slaves.

In his mind, Jin was already thinking of hundreds of ways for everyone to be happy at the ending he was aiming for. “I’ll need your knowledge and the knowledge of those before me to help with creating the medicine and vaccines.” Jin calmly spoke. “I’ll also need you guys in order to overtake an entire facility within the next thirty minutes”

“What? You want to overtake an entire facility within thirty minutes? Are you crazy?” Ban’s eyes bulged out. “That’s a lot of work!”

“Of course it is Ban. My original job in the underworld wasn’t a doctor but a sort of savior. The doctor status was only an excuse to know more about the underworld and its black markets. But when I learned of slaves, I learned more than I’d hoped. I learned that I needed the ability to make the seemingly impossible possible and to be extremely cold to myself and others if I want to save others. So the only choice I had was to work hard.” Jin sadly chuckled.

“We know Jin. We know…*sigh*” Lucian sighed.

“The facility we are going to is a slave pen of sort. The facility is well kept and have everything I need. I know it is slightly unforgivable for me to ask of you to do this, but I will also need you to capture everyone as well. Even those who are not slaves. They will be used and tested.” Jin tried to muster the resolution in his heart but was hard to keep it up.

Ban and Lucian knew that look very well. It was a look in which they too once wore in the past. The look of walking the cross-roads to a world of good and evil. There were no right or wrong when trying to achieve a goal in the world of evil. But in the world of good, even if it was to make everyone else happy and a good deed is accomplished, the one who does the good deed will be punished.

To capture those who were not even slaves… The customers, the trainers, and the window shoppers… and even some of the possible innocent people. They were going to be used in an experiment against their wills. No one will die but they will be permanently scarred by this experiment.

“When the experiment is over, I want you guys to wipe their memories. I know you guys are saints and the old man who healed me was able to make miracles such as that. But if you guys cannot do it and it is not possible to wipe away their memories, I’ll do it by physical labor. At the very least, they’ll forget the gruesome experiment. At worse, they’ll be turned into living vegetables. I’ll also destroy the facility myself when we are done.” Jin softly spoke.

Lucian stared at Jin’s face for a long time and sighed. What he was about to do is about to go against all of his morals. But who was he to speak about morals? In the world he lived in where many chose the path to saint hood, it was much darker. Only one side wins in the world of cultivation and the other remains a loser. At the very least, the damage among people will be somewhat reduced and there will only little losses among the people. The slaves would be freed, a cure to a hereditary disease would be found, and one less slave trading center.

To Lucian’s surprise, Ban spoke up. “Where is this place? We’ll find the cure and free those slaves before day break.” His voice coldly resounded. Hearing that the slave center being closed down was good enough for him for he too was once a slave in his life time. He knew what horrors existed in those slave centers.

‘*Pfft* So Ban can get fired up about some things as well. I didn’t know that. Seeing this, might as well get fired up’ Lucian smirked.

“By the way Jin. There was no real need to step back into this dark world. Why is it that you took the road of self-suffering? Can you tell us the truth to this mysterious question?” Lucian smiled at Jin as if he already knew the answer.

Jin’s eyes soften and looked down at his feet. “I… wanted to get rid of this underworld slowly and permanently if possible. If great changes can be made in an instant to get rid of all of this darkness, I would. I didn’t even want to go back. But seeing those debt collectors… and Ania’s boyfriend… *Sigh*… they became the reason why I came back. There are those supporting them as well and they would only grow worse if left alone to gain what they desire. They claim to have good intentions while hiding those blades of betrayals. They manipulate and ignore the laws to obtain what they desire without thinking of the real consequences. Even those who are supposed to protect us are against us. Tell me Lucian. You too Ban. What am I supposed to do? Turn a blind eye to these types of people? I could. But when time comes they go after me and my family, who will help us? People would also turn a blind eye no?”

“I… am not trying to be a hero. I can’t be a hero. If anything, I am a villain. I am one person who had lived all his life working to his bones just to protect my family from the darkness by living in the darkness. Not even my father and mother knows of what type of person I’d become now. No matter how many miracles I make, no matter how many great achievements I create, they would lose meaning if those I care about around me die. If they die because I couldn’t take the initiative to erase the darkness before they come at me and those I love, if the people I care about suffers because I couldn’t endure the sadness and despair in front of me to forge another path to happiness, then… how can I ever face my younger and older selves and even my past and future lives? How can I face my family? Even now, there are times I couldn’t even look at my own reflection and be proud of how I looked because I knew that it was me who’d brought suffering unto others just for me and my family to be safe and happy. But I smile every day in front of them because I know they are safe and happy for a day longer” Jin gritted his teeth as he said each word. This was the truth to his ruthless acting in the underworld. “I know it doesn’t make sense a little, but this is my reason and this is part of the truth. If you guys want to know the other half the truth, then keep following me and I’ll show it to you”

Lucian’s eyes slightly moisten when hearing Jin’s words. ‘I see. I don’t need to continue to follow you. Because I already know. To you, there is no real good or evil in your eyes. Just malicious people with intentions to hurt you and those close to you. It is not like you aren’t selfish and have no desires of your own. You chose to suppress your desires thinking of everyone’s happiness and those possible paths to happiness. But the only real justice is seeing those close to you happy and that is why you have yet to be twisted even before we sealed your memories. Sure enough, you are still human Jin. I really hope you stay that way’

“I’m happy to hear that Jin.” An aged voice called out.

The three turned to see who it was and sure enough, it was the angel of light.

“But Jin. Six years ago, you crippled the entire underworld network with the help of Mammon. But now, six years later, what you are about to do is revolutionize a whole new drug to cure a hereditary disease. But to do this, you would take over an entire slave center? You know the whole underworld will find you and take you down now that they are back in shape right?” Ephemeral said in a low voice.

“… Let them come. If they dare find me, I’ll cripple not just this network, but I’ll erase it permanently. I’ll also go after their connections as well. No matter who it is, I’ll break their arms to keep their filthy hands away. I’ll break their legs so they can’t safely run to rebuild the network. I’ll even rip off their third leg and jewels so even they can’t give birth to new evil.” Jin coldly spoke. Jin left without saying another word to the old angel of light and towards the designated facility.

‘*Tch* Acting all cool like that… *sigh* I hate higher plane beings. They always stir sh*t up and it is not only my problems, but even a mortal’s problem as well.’ The old angel of light whom Jin called Ephemeral sighed.

“Hey there old friend. How long has it been? A few thousand years?” A phantom appeared in front of the angel of light which startled him.

“WHO ARE YOU!?” the angel of light roared.

“Calm your old ass beard down. You’re too old for that. Can’t you recognize me?” The image was getting clearer and only then did the angel of light bowed down.

“Ha ha! No need for formalities. Old friends should not bow down to each other.” Lucian smiled.

“Lucian! How!? I thought…” Ephemeral started to say.

“Eh… Long story short, there is a traitor in heaven above who wanted to act like god. He enticed not one but eighty one paragons of light to rise up and over take heaven. I battled against all of them to the point of nearlly destroying a sector of heaven. The eighty one paragons and the prick thought they'd beaten me but I won in the end. Kicked his ass and permanently erased him from existence and the other eighty one paragons as well. But sh*t-heads costed me not only my body but my status as well as the… never mind… Just know that life is full of bull... Now I’m stuck like this…. *sigh* I really hate my life…” Lucian sighed.

“Then… is he? Is Jin?” Ephemeral began to stutter.

“Yep. He is my reincarnation so to speak. But he is still soft and I kinda want to keep him that way. With him, maybe he would be able to reach the true heaven and fix the multiple heavens down below the true heaven. Or, that is what I’d hope. I don’t have much time old friend, but seeing that you are using Jin’s old benefactor’s body, I only want to tell you to watch over him well and take good care of his body.” Lucian quickly said and disappeared.

“Ha ha… Oh damn…. Lucian… You sure have a lot of secrets and if this doesn’t beat it all, I don’t know what. Had I know, I would’ve put more efforts in keeping him and this guy’s body safe. *Sigh*… Do you know how many people wishes to see you Lucian? Do you know how many people still support you to this day? Many called you a traitor by killing those paragons but I and those who do support you know that you are the most loyal among the heavens. Not just our heaven, but each and every other heavens as well." The angel of light nearly cried when he saw his old friend.

"There are those who still are waiting for your return Lucian.” The old angel of light sighed. The angel of light was an old friend of Lucian. It was Lucian who got the angel of light the job. The angel of light's life wasn’t bad. Just the job was more or less repetitive. But ever since Lucian was gone, the angel of light felt lost while working as an angel of light. Hearing that Jin was his reincarnation, this made the angel of light ecstatic and gave him a new purpose. ‘I’ll watch him with all my might instead of that angel of death. This time, I won’t let you die for our sake again Lucian’ the angel of light thought and disappeared with a flicker of light.
