Epilouge to chapter 1: Death's Door

Epilouge to chapter 1: Death's Door

After the old man pushed Jin into the door, the door slammed shut instantly.

The old man simply laughed at Jin.

'The Heavenly Decree? This kid has more luck than someone winning the lottery nine times in a row! I'd initially wanted to get this job over with. But who knew that he would be this interesting!' the old man thought to himself while stroking his skeletal cranium.

“A person deserving of a second chance should have a second chance. After all, how can we ignore someone who has the potential to become the paragon of light?" a voice behind the old man said.

"I-it's you sir!" the old man recognizing the voice immediately turn towards it and respectfully bow down

“Humph! But to take the life of a potential paragon by accident! Unbelievable! “The mysterious voice snorted

"Ha ha! Let bygones be bygones. Didn't most candidates for paragons refused their position because it was too hard and stayed at the messenger level? Even if he fails, he still would be a messenger at least!" the old man merrily joked. But even he knows what a paragon meant.  It would mean that the person would suffer an entire millennium and lived each lives constantly as saints! If we were to compare the chances of living ten life times as saints, it would be close to rolling a thousand sided die a thousand time! One out of a thousand, a thousand times, what are the chances of being a saint? But this only counting the lives roughly.

"This guy lived nine past lives straight as a saint. You want to let bygones be bygones? Are you trying to smear dirt in our faces?" the mysterious voice exceptionally angry at this point. His eyes sharpened and bulged outward clearly strained from anger. The old man could even see steamy tears rolling down his face.

In truth, the heavens already lowered the requirements to become a saint and to obtain the positions in the heavens. Originally, to be a saint, one would have to train to become a saint or do many meritorious good deeds. Now it is only to live righteously, do good deeds, follow the morals of the heavens, and help whenever possible. But it is up to the heavens to deem those worthy to become saints. As for the positions, it was originally to live however many life time straight as a saint if one desires that position. Now those karma counts can skip a few lives. But if one does meet the old requirement, the heaven would bestow him many things that one can only dream of in his mortal life.

Jin is someone that lived like those of the ancient era. He lived nine lifetimes straight as a saint. What does this mean? Two is hard, three is harder, four is extremely difficult, five is nearly impossible and six lifetimes straight as a saint should have been impossible considering the current era.

"But I am not here to nag at you old man. I have just one thing to ask" the mysterious voice said to the old man.

"Oh? What is it then?" Seeing this, the old man was curious. What did he want?

"You never really explained the conditions to become a saint to him have you?" the voice flatly said.

Upon hearing this, the old man finally remembered what he forgot. But before he was able to speak, the mysterious person grabbed the old man, forcibly opened the door and tossed the old man in.

"Y-you! How could you be so cruel to the elderly!?" the old man cried as he fell farther and farther.

"I'm not cruel. I just like the boy a bit so I wanted to ensure that he becomes a paragon" the voice said lightly before disappearing.
