Epilouge to Chapter 15: The Old House and The Dead Titan System

After a few hours of searching for a job, I gave up. Well, it was more like the entire area was full on workers. There was not a single sign to hire workers.

*Sigh*... Finding a job is really hard. But it is much harder than it was before I came back...

Feeling stressed, I took a little stroll around the neighborhood. I walked for a good period of time around the neighborhood and since I still had a lot of time on my hands, I walked even farther until I reached my old house.

Memories of sorrow and struggles filled my mind as I reminisce those hard days with closed eyes.

I remembered that through out my life I've fought many people to survive.

But I could not fight them all alone. If I could, then I would not be in such a sorry state everyday in school.

I would fight back whenever, take revenge whenever, and pretty do what ever I pleased as long as it was within the rules of society.

I fought against those younger than me with words and candy. I fought those at my age with brains and fists. But for those who were older than me, stronger than me, and had more experience in fighting than me, I used something called the Titan system which served its purposes. I regretted that I could not make another because it was too expensive to keep maintenance and replacing parts.

I built the Titan system when I was twelve years old. I had enough knowledge of robotics and computer engineering because I studied like a mad man. So it was possible for me to build it. I also worked for a long time to save up money to buy the necessary parts. If not, I shaped them myself. Every sparing seconds I had, I used it on making the Titan system until it was complete and safe.

But due to low quality materials used on the Titan system, it broke down fast and my money were nothing but dust balls after a long period of time. I even had to get rid of the helmet at some point and replaced it with a mask. The Titan system lasted me a good five years before it was destroyed in a great fire. But during those five years, the Titan system was like my partner and the closest friend.

On it's very last use, I remembered it was used to save my family and someone else from a great fire when I was seventeen. My family I went to my brother's football game. The football game took place in Fenrir's Dome inside the city made out of steel and concrete. My brother belonged to the second string in his football team. Mid way through the game, my brother and the entire second string were suddenly cut from the team and used as a scapegoat so that the first string players could continue to play. The entire second strings were infuriated and wanted to scream out in agony. So did their families and my family as well. But what could we do? All the second string people could do was to leave. When the game ended, my brother's team won but it felt more like an undeserved victory to many of us.

Only moments later, the whole building was set on fire by an arsonist. The mad man also set the football field on fire! The people did their best to rush out of the stadium but there were still a few people left. I was one of the lucky ones to get out early because the crowd pushed me along the flow but out to the other side of the stadium exit. But there were no signs of my other family members except my brother who had long gone outside to cry. When I turned my head back into the stadium, I saw that they were still caught inside the stadium that was quickly collapsing.

I didn't want to reveal my Titan system, but I had no choice but to use it to get through the fire and the sea of people. I donned the Titan system on my body and bum-rushed my way in. People saw that I was running back and tired to pull me out. I recalled that I was in a fit of rage that day and kicked the peoples' hands away from me regardless of who it was. No matter what, I had no time to lose.

I was completely insane that day to re-enter a burning stadium. But... it was my family. I saw that my father and mother were on opposite sides of the stadium both protecting one of my younger siblings and I could only save one group at a time. Knowing my father, he would tell me to save my mother and little sister at all cost so I did not hesitate. I brought my mother and sister out safely and quickly went back in. When I came back in, I saw that my father and little brother was already near the exit and was walking out just fine.

Just then, a voice weakly called out for help. The voice sounded high pitch and very young like a teenager's voice. When I turned to see who it was, I could not make out the face. The way the person looked and dressed was way too androgynous to determine the gender. Not that it mattered anyway. The person was buried under a pile of rubble.

I had to consider things. The dome was burning down at a very fast rate as of now and there was a person in trouble. If I go over there, I could still be able to save that person but I might lose my life as well. If I go out right now, I could still save myself and the possibility of losing both lives becomes nothing.

Don't get me wrong. I am not heartless. But I am not like other people who goes in to rescue others just because they are in trouble. If they are not related to me, I would not give a rat's ass in saving their life. I grew up being betrayed. It was because I once saved a life and the person I saved ended up back stabbing me later on. It was the casual way of how society works against the poor. It was not that rare either for a person to be saved and then the savior being back stabbed. But it was still uncommon.

The person I could save today might be my enemy tomorrow. But that person could also be one of my best allies in the future. To go against my morals to save myself to be able to see my family again, or to live along my morals to save that person with the possibility of being killed while trying to save another life and to never see my family again. If I save that person now, I could be saving garbage that deserved to die because they are punished by the heavens.

"But I would be no different if I become worse than a scumbag if I leave that person here..." I muttered in a low voice of regret. I sighed at the fact that my father and mother raised me to be a person with a lot of morals.

There were many debris in my way. But with the help of the Titan system, I got through the debris easily and lifted the rubble off of the person. I saw that my system's lights were flashing signs of dangers. The temperature limit was hit on the system because the outside temperature.   'Shi- not good. The flame are getting too hot and my system is about to overheat and malfunction because of this crappy firestorm.' I cursed inside my heart.

The fire was only growing stronger and the paths to escape became less and less as time passes on. The only decision I had left was to leap through the sea of fire and hope for the best outcome. 'I don't need to be protected. But this person might get burned...' I wasn't really concerned with myself. I was used to having scars on my body. What was one more?

I checked around and saw that there were a few coats and a mascot head laying on the floor that has yet to be burned by the fire. I rushed to get the coats for the person and donned on the mascot head. No longer thinking about anything, I tread across the safest paths that could lead me and this person out as best as I could.

'This is it! The exit is just ahead of me!' I carelessly thought. It was because I was careless that I lost my Titan system. Just when I thought I could exit, the giant piece from above the dome fell and blocked my path. The pieces continues to fall and I was staring death right in its fiery eyes. 'Oh SHI-!!!!!!!' I really thought I was going to die.

But I was pushed out form my Titan system all of a sudden. 'What the!?' My eyes widen when I turned back at the Titan system. The Titan system malfunctioned and dislodged me right out of the suit and stood as if it was protecting me. But since it had no one inside, it delayed the fall of the pieces and soon crumbled into pieces.  I escaped before the giant pieces from the dome could hit me or the person I was holding.

My mind was in a wreck. In an instant, the situation became hopeless. I'd lost my only Titan system and the only thing that could've helped me escape. Now, I carry a burden while trying to figure my way out of this hell. 'Shi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hate myself.'

Even though I was in a state of confusion, I continuously looked around to find any possible exits. Every where I looked, it was either a wall of fire with rubbles protecting the exit or some crappy pile of rocks and metal fragments blocking my way.

There were only a few things next to me. An fire axe, a fire extinguisher, and the person near me. But I could only carry two. The burden the person gave me already made it hard to hold even the axe up. Again, it was against my morals that I could leave a person behind.

'Grrr... Fine! If the heavens does not leave me a way out, I'll just beat my way out!'

Though the fire was climbing, there was a path to the upper floor and up that upper floor was a wall which had a fire axe and a fire extinguisher up there as well. I let the fire extinguisher rip clearing a path to the upper floors and to the walls. I made sure that the fire did not get near the person while I was making a path. I then threw the used fire extinguisher away and carried the person up with the axe.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

'*Pant*Pant* Gaaaaaaaah!!!!' I was about to drop down on the floor due to the fumes. The fumes of the flames quickly filled up my lungs making my head feel light. I quickly bit my tongue to recollect my mind while running up to the upper floors.

Once I reached to the upper floor, I placed the person down and broke the fire extinguisher case and let it loose to force the flames back. But the hydra kept on regrowing back but at a slower pace but it was still good. I placed the extinguisher down and equipped myself with the two axes.

'This had better work. Or else you and I are fried chicken for the devil tonight!' I prayed with all my heart and started to beat the hell out of the wall. 'Crappy ass wall! BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I swung wildly repeatedly at one spot. This stadium was made using two halves since people wanted to save on money on steel and concrete. They came up with the idea that the stadium should be made into two halves and that way repairs would be easier. Thus they also left parts of the walls without being reinforced by steel. But these walls were still hard.

I could feel the fire's heat crawling up my back while I was busting my back to break the concrete wall. 'The air is making the fire grow stronger... *Tch*' I turned around quickly and replace the axes in my had with the fire extinguisher and let it loose once more. I pushed the flames a good ten meters with a few quick sprays and then got back to swinging on the wall.

Finally, after a few more swings, a small crack opened. It gave me hope as I swung the axes even faster. But I did not notice that the axes were chipped badly. The crack grew to the size of a person's head as I kept busting the wall down.  I made a circle of cracks with the axes around that first crack. By that time, both axes broke and the fire climbed higher to the upper floor now. It already consumed the lower floors.

'Great! Me and my bad luck!' I really hated these cheap ass tools. When I took a good look at the walls, I saw that they were only three feet thick and I already made a dent in it. 'But now that the axes are useless... what else can I use to break it down?'

Eventually, I came to a desperate conclusion. I used up all of the fire extinguisher's foam and use the extinguisher itself to break the wall down. But even that broke. I look down on my hands to see that it was all bloodied up from wielding the axes and extinguisher.  There was only about a foot left of concrete that separates me and the outside world.

I only had a few minutes left before the fire completely gets to me because of the foam from the fire extinguisher. It delayed the flames form coming further.

'*Sigh*... My hand will hurt like hell tonight... If I am going to do it... Might as well man it out and make you pay for it later...' I thought. 'But what if this person is broke? AHHHHHHHHHH hell...'

*Boom*Boom*Boom*Boom*

I threw a barrages of punches and blood splattered all over the wall. I did not even care about the pain.

"*ROAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR*" I shouted to the top of my lungs to suppress the painful signals my nerves were sending.

When I'd thought my fist could take it no more, I fell to my knees. 'Ah crap... The wall is to fuggin thick and my fists hurts... The wall only has a little bit more to go...'

'Sorry man. I really did try. But I am only human and I can only do so much... You would need a hero to be able to do this... I'm not that hero... I was not born brave nor was I born with god like strength...' I inwardly apologizes to the person who was knocked out. Even if I was strong, there are some things a person cannot do by his own two hands. It wasn't that I gave up. I knew that even if I continued to punch this wall, it would still not budge. But I still punched it with all my might with these two fists. I got back up and I still continued to do it because I wanted to believe that there was still a way to survive.

(*WARNING!* DON'T DO THIS! ALL THIS IS FICTIONAL!)

Just then, a miracle occur right in front of me. The wall cracked on its own and broke down. A gust of fresh air and dust blew in my face to prove it to me that I was not dreaming. 'Ha ha... Ah!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally did it!!!!' I didn't wait. I tried to pick up the person but my hands were too broken to have a grip on the person. '*TCH!* FINE! I'll hug you down!' I said myself. I wrapped my arms around the person and lifted the person up with leg and arm strength. Though my legs wobbled a bit, It didn't affected my will in the least. My eyes were blurry so I could not see the ground well. But I was not about to wait for the fire to consume me as well. I jumped off the stadium's upper floor which was only about twenty feet up from the ground.

The ground came sooner than I'd expected and I landed leaning on one foot first and pushed off to roll. I learned this once from a street performer. Not like it helped that much.  Well, I could not feel a thing in my body after swinging so long. My body screamed in pain as I forcibly took the blow to reduce the impact on both me and the person.

Indeed I rolled down but I fell again but on my back. When I looked back up, I saw that I landed on an empty white mini-van! The minivan was seven feet high and thus broke my fall. But it still hurts like hell!!!

I looked back to see that the person was still safe and unharmed. I also felt the person's breath so the person was okay. But I still could not tell whether it was a boy or a girl. Just that the person smelled really good even after the fire. 'Glad to see that you are still alive... ' I smiled. Just when I thought it was over, I saw a dot coming my way but fell strangely. But I was not an idiot. It was a giant block of concrete was falling from above. My eyes widen as I screamed in my body to roll to avoid the boulder.

Within the nick of time, I manged to get to roll a fair distance before the boulder could even hit me or the person I was protecting. But I continued to roll just to make sure of both our safeties.

The sound of footsteps came rushing in my direction. I was pretty sure that they heard me hitting the crap out of the walls. I didn't want to stay for long. Using all the strength left in my body, I stumbled back on my feet and ran away leaving the person behind in a safe place.

Being a hero has no meaning in this world. At least, it does not for me. If people knew that I was strong and pretended to be weak, then how could I continue to protect my family in the shadows? If I was known as strong, then how could it be possible for me to continue to hide in the shadows? The people would forcibly pull me out and then stage me to be a public hero. But these types of public heroes usually meet a tragic end by the people. So I refused to be known as a hero.

I often fell and flopped. I even crawled my way forward.  But at some point, I managed to run all the way to the hospital without even letting my family see me. Only later on did they get news of me in the hospital all bloodied up. I lied and told that some random street thugs beat me up and stole all of my money.

I felt bad for lying, but I did not regret it. By doing so, I could continue to protect them. But I was shocked when they told me that they knew I was lying. I could only wryly smile at my failed attempt to lie. That day, my family got  a little closer to each other because my brother also saw me jumping down the stadium and saving a life. He was proud that I was a hero. So were my mother and father. The entire family knew I was a hero and did not say anymore. I felt satisfied knowing I saved more than one life that day as well.

But I felt like something was missing in my heart. The Titan system that I built saved me that day by a malfunction. It felt almost alive by saving me. I could still remember that metal frame delaying my death for me even to this day. But no matter how I recreate the Titan system, it never felt the same. Thus I gave up making a new Titan system and spent my last year in peace without much trouble. Or at least regular enough for me.  But if that Titan system was truly alive, it would be a true miracle and I would not even regret calling it a friend even if people might think that I was crazy.

I reopen my eyes to see the house I built the Titan system in. I recollect the thoughts of those hard days where I would used it to near breaking point and repairing it to new. A system that was supposed to be nothing more than a tool, became something like family to me. I unknowingly smiled because I truly thought of it as a friend.

"Good bye old house... You were the house that kept my Titan system a secret... You were also the house that shelted me and my family to this day. I hope that the new owner will treat you well" I softly muttered. I was about to leave until I saw a familiar face. "EH!? Isn't she?"
