The Psychopath's Journey
CHAPTER 18: Gratitude

CHAPTER 18: Gratitude

"Bring in the injured."

"call every healer within the town."

"Evacuate the students and inform their guardians."

The Ascension Academy was a mess right now. The attack from the demon worshippers had shaken the whole academy. If the academy had not made its security tighter yesterday, then this attack would have caused a lot more trouble.

"Headmaster! Why do you think their motive was behind the attack?"

Fiona asked a man standing next to her. The man had blue eyes and black hair and a beard to match his style. He wore a simple suit and carried an elegant aura around him. Though in his 80's, he looked as if he just reached his 40s. A S-rank awakener and the headmaster of Ascension academy, Duke Roman Dracon.

"I too am oblivious about their motives. They could have attacked to kill the golden generation. All of them are dead. If one was alive then I would have tortured him to spill out some information."

He clenched his fist in anger. In his absence, such a dangerous accident happened and he could not do much. But looking at the positive side, there were no casualties. Some professors and students were injured but none of them were in fatal condition.

Both of them were sitting in hospital chairs and waiting for the healer to come out. Irene suffered some injuries but Levi…..they could not be sure if he would survive.

"Professor, who is that kid?"

Fiona knew who the headmaster was curious about. The student who always annoyed her changed. Though still shy, he looked confident and strong.

Fiona knew that if Levi had not helped her then she would probably have needed more time to kill the silkworm demon.

"Levi! That's his name."

"I see."

Roman understood why he never had heard of the kid. No matter how talented a commoner is, the noble society will never accept him.

As they were waiting, the healer came out and looked gave them a small smile.

"The boy lives, though he will have to rest for a month straight and forbid him from using mana."

Roman stood up from his chair and patted the healer.

" Thank you for your work, Professor Ryan."

"It's my duty, headmaster. You can go inside, he is awake. He may not respond too much. It's a miracle he is alive, with too many burns, cuts and mana exhaustion. He had injured his back as well. If the wound was one centimetre up the back, he would have lost his ability to walk."

Fiona and Roman could only nod. After all, a student had to step up and put his life on the line.

"Have his parents been informed?'

Fiona shook her head. Before coming to the hospital, looked at Levi's records and did not see any information about his family. That meant one thing.

"He doesn't have one."

"Oh"

Roman and Ryan said at the same time.

"Poor soul."

Ryan then walked to get something to eat. Fiona and Roman entered the room.

Levi was on the hospital bed with an oxygen mask over him. There were several blood pipes attached to his body. He was in a miserable condition.

Levi moved his eye and noticed Fiona and Roman standing there observing his condition.

Roman pulled a chair from the side and sat on it.

"How are you feeling?"

Levi did not speak for a while. Though "pain" was non-existent to him, his body suffered too much and now he had trouble speaking properly.

'Never thought the day would come when I would meet the headmaster of the academy and talk with him.'

Levi recognised Roman immediately. His power and social status made him an important character in the game.

"Don't feel so good."

Levi gave a robotic answer. Seeing one of his students in such a condition hurt Roman deeply, after all, it is his responsibility to protect those under his care.

"Um-Iren- How is Irene?"

' To think he cares about someone even when he is in such a condition.'

"She's fine. She had fewer injuries than you but she still is unconscious, probably because of the shock she received from the attack."

Levi did not say anything back. He felt "tired" and fell asleep. Roman stood up and got out of the room with Fiona. She sat on the chair outside the room.

"I will stay here for a while. That is the least, I can do as his class teacher."

Roman nodded in agreement.

"What is his rank, Miss Fiona?"

"F"

"Wouldn't the world go nuts when we report that an F-rank defeated an A-rank?"

Fiona shook her head in disagreement.

"They would never believe you and it would be good if nobody knew about it."

If Roman announced Levi's battle then most people would believe him but why does Fiona not want him to report it?

"Why should nobody know about it?"

….

…..

" Once people know, some will respect him but most would try to bring him down and be an obstacle in his life."

"You seem to care about him a lot-"

"I don't"

Fiona quickly rejected the headmaster from having any assumptions. Roman grinned as he walked away.

'Even the ferocious mistress of the Dexer's heart can melt. That boy must really have his grip on her.'

******

'Shit. My head hurts. Wait…my head hurts. I thought I was a goner once that villain attacked me. If not for that "los"...where is he? What happened to him?'

Different thoughts rampaged Irene's head as she slowly opened her eyes.

"YOUNG LADY"

"Don't shout. She is still in shock."

"My apologies."

Irene saw two people talking with each other. One of them was her butler, Quinn but she did not recognise the other person.

'She must be the healer.'

Irene then moved her body and tried getting up.

"My lady. Please do not move. Your body is not in a good condition."

Quinn warned her though she still sat straight on the bed. The healer came near her and put her hand on Irene's forehead. She closed her eyes and imbued mana into Irene.

"Hmmm….Her mind is in a stable condition though you are not allowed to move from here."

Irene did not obey her. She tried standing up but Quinn grabbed her hand and didn't her.

"I am sorry for my behaviour lady but you heard what the healer said. You are NOT allowed to move until you fully recover."

Irene moved his hand away and wore her slippers.

"Where is he, Quinn?"

"I don't know who "he" is."

Irene glanced at the healer and she also shook her head in confusion.

"Levi."

Quinn never heard that name but he wondered why she was searching for him.

"What is his surname, young miss ?"

"It's just Levi."

The moment she said that Quinn's attitude changed. Why is she asking about a commoner? What does he mean to her? He had many questions running through his head but now was not the time to wonder about such questions.

"I will look for him, my lady."

"No need. I will go on my own."

Irene then walked through the door. The healer did not have the guts to stop the heir of Hydra's Den. Quinn walked beside her. He felt agitated. There was no need for noble blood to associate with a lowly blood.

"My lady. Let me ask about him at the counter. Please wait for me here."

Irene stopped in her tracks and Quinn went to the counter. The staff at first did not say anything until Quinn showed his ID. Without wasting a second they gave him the information.

Irene and Levi then made their way to room no 133. As they got near the room, they could see a green-haired beauty with her head down. Fiona heard the footsteps and looked at her left.

"-2 merit points for disobeying your healer and your butler."

Irene didn't care. Right now, she wanted an answer, she could regain those merit points later on but wouldn't be able to forgive herself if something happened to Levi.

"How is he professor?"

Nobody knew that Levi saved Irene except herself, Fiona and Roman. Irene looked at Quinn and he understood what her eyes were telling.

"I have something to do. I will be back in 10 minutes."

Quinn left the area, he did not have anything to do but defying Irene would make her even angrier.

' I need to find out who that boy is before her lady drags herself into the mud.'

Irene waited for Quinn to be far away so he wouldn't hear their conversation.

"Professor, is he fine?"

Fiona shook her head.

"I could say he is fine and not fine as well. Too many burns, broken burns, and torn muscles almost destroyed his mana source. If he would have fought like this even a minute more, he would have lost his life."

Irene's heart shook. She knew he had a numerable amount of injuries but not to this level. She sat next to Fiona as she rubbed her knees. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the ceiling.

Fiona noticed her nervousness.

"But it surprised me to know that both of you are friends."

"The two of us? Friends?"

"You're not."

Irene did not answer but her silence spoke more. What was their relationship? They never talked to each other, Irene didn't know if he even existed but everything changed at the library. The book she threw still haunted her, the thoughts she had about him, made her quiver.

'I- I don't know what to do. I should have never…'

" Then if you aren't friends, why did he fight for you to this extent?"

Irene thought the same. Why? There was no need. Did he do it for money? but no fool risks their life to such a degree. Fame? Nobody saw him. nobody would believe him.

Fiona touched Irene's head.

"Ask him about it once he wakes up."

Irene nodded as tears fell from her eyes. Fiona pulled her into her arms and patted her back. The fear, regret, guilt and sorrow flooded her mind and now finally she could let go of it.

' Thank you for saving me...Levi.'
