Vol 2 Chapter 2-1: A Feeling of Dread

Insanity walked alongside Calypso, but an unsettling feeling gnawed at him, pulling his thoughts elsewhere. Calypso noticed his distraction and asked, "Are you okay?"

He didn’t answer at first, his gaze distant. She stepped in front of him, gently pressing, "Insanity, what’s going on?"

He sighed, finally breaking his silence. “Everything feels... off. It’s like someone’s watching us from a distance, beyond anything I can pinpoint.”

Calypso laughed softly, brushing his concern aside. "You’re overthinking it. We’ll be okay." She squeezed his hand reassuringly, and he managed a small smile, feeling some comfort in her warmth.

When they reached their house, Calypso announced, "I’m taking a bath. And if you want to sneak a peek, I won’t mind,” she teased with a smirk.

Insanity chuckled and waved her off, trying to shake his nerves. He grabbed his phone, reminding himself of Moxie’s instructions for them to avoid using their abilities unless absolutely necessary. Smartphones were their new norm for gathering information.

Scrolling aimlessly, Insanity stumbled upon a strange news story that caught his attention: a doctor had been found dead on a hospital roof, completely boneless. The accompanying video showed a homeless man claiming he knew why the doctor had died, though he was dismissed as crazy.

As he read on, a chill ran down his spine, the unsettling feeling returning. Calypso emerged from the bathroom, dressed and ready for bed. She smiled at him, unaware of his unease, and wished him goodnight as she disappeared into the darkened bedroom.

Insanity sat alone in the silence of the house, the only light coming from his phone screen. He felt as if something important was missing—he could sense the life energies of Moxie, Auforus, Calypso, and the three girls, but all traces of the other sins, including Mara, had vanished.

Just as he reached for his phone to message Moxie, his surroundings distorted. Reality itself seemed to spiral as an ominous voice echoed around him, whispering of the cosmos soon to fall under the rule of five deities, beings powerful enough to destroy anything in their path. The sheer force of it felt as if it were crushing him.

Insanity’s head spun until he felt a gentle touch on his forehead. He blinked, disoriented, finding himself back on the couch. He was alone, the room silent once more, but the memory of the voice lingered.

Shaking it off as a hallucination, he rose and headed to the bedroom, trying to push the ominous warning from his mind. Behind him, in the living room, a faint rift shimmered before closing. Inside a boundless white void, a glowing yellow figure walked, only to be halted by a black figure emerging from the shadows.

"What are you doing in the world of the living?" the dark figure demanded, a chill in its voice.

The yellow figure froze, recognizing the presence. “Bliss,” the dark figure intoned, addressing her by her true name.
