The goddess had been traveling for an hour now and was on one of the last tall buildings in the direction she was traveling.
With so many options to choose from she had narrowed it down to two. Turning toward a different road, or traveling on the streets below.
She was stumped.
Most of her existence she had never really made her own way.
Her past choices were pretty easy with what other gods would let her do. She could never interfere with humans beyond a certain point and she was only allowed to walk around on the soil if the time was just right.
“Where had they all gone” the goddess thought to herself. “I can’t feel anyone watching me. I don’t sense any of the previous limits to what I can do.” This vexed her. If she was now alone, did that mean she was in danger from whatever got rid of the other gods? If she had no laws imposed by others, what would be her new limits?
The goddess made up her mind and jumped down from the building she was perched.
There was a light glowing from a building not far away. With the new wealth of information at her disposal it was a trivial matter to discern what it was she was looking at.
The sign that acted as a beacon in the night had the name of the diner blazing across it.
The walls around the diner were paneled in a reflective metal and the glass was polished and clean. The roof was bordered in a black and white checker pattern. The air smelled of grease and meat.
This was the perfect place to rest and decide where to go from here.
The goddess bounded across the street and parking lot, entering the pleasant glow emanating from the windows.
She could see a man sipping a cup of what she knew now as coffee. He hadn’t eaten more than a bit of the meal in front of him.
The bread looked light and golden brown. The meat sandwiched in the middle was juicy, flowing with grease. There laid a large potion of crispy fried vegetable next to the burger. The goddess wished she was offered such luxuries back in her home.

She had to try this wonderful food.
She noticed people were clothed in much more conservative outfits than she was used to and if she were to enter this establishment with her current flowing robe she was sure people would find her peculiar. She hadn’t seen anything like the clothes she wore during her travels this night.
The goddess flicked her wrist and the white flowing fabric that covered her morphed into a sleek dress she had seen on a strikingly beautiful woman on the top floor of one of the buildings she hopped over. The dress was originally black but she preferred a crisp white to match her pale skin.
She now felt ready to enter the building.
“Good evening! Please sit wherever you like.”
More choices. This world was filled with so many choices. She must have stood there to long, because the waitress came over and looked concerned.
“Is there something wrong?”
“I just can’t figure out where to sit.”
“Why don’t you sit at the counter?”
The goddess wasn’t used to making her own decisions, but she also wasn’t a fan of letting others decide things for her.
“I don’t know. Maybe I should find somewhere else?”
“Oh? This is the only place open this late on this side of town. I doubt you’ll be able to find somewhere else to eat.”
The goddess was still undecided and thus distracted from the human talking to her. If she were more accustom to this era she might have noticed the annoyed look on the waitress’ face.
“I think I’ll sit at the counter after all.”
“Alright then. Right this way.” The waitress waved her hands at the stools lining the counter. “Here is a menu. Can I get you anything to drink?”
“I haven’t had a nice wine in a long time.” The goddess thought aloud. “I suppose any spirit will do though.”
The waitress plastered on a weary smile and worked hard to remain polite after a long night working a double.
‘God, why did I get stuck with some rich bitch right before the end of my shift. She better give me a good tip’
