Chapter Three: The Goddess From The Forest

“We don’t serve liquor here” the waitress said with a fake smile. “Would you like some coffee, or water?”

‘Why should I have to put up with this. Her dress probably costs more than I make in a month. Here I am, working for scraps, trying to save up for a dress half as beautiful as hers, and she probably has a closet full of clothes she only wore once.’

The goddess furrowed her brows as she heard the woman’s inner plight. She could see a vivid thought of a sleek black dress the waitress had been pining over for the past few weeks.

Being a god she never had the need for a large wardrobe. She never saw the appeal either. Humans could get so caught up on physical appearance.

“What would you suggest?” The goddess said while trying to relax her face.

“I’ll just get you a glass of water and some lemon.” The waitress smiled and swept off to fetch the drink.

This world seems to have changed so much since I last looked upon it.

The waitress came back a few moments later and placed a tall glass of iced water with a lemon slice in front of the goddess.

The waitress frowned when she saw that the menu in front of her hadn’t been opened and quickly tried to hide her displeasure.

“Do you know what you want to eat?” The waitress said with her face still contorted in a smile that betrayed her true thoughts.

‘This bitch better not keep me here past closing. I don’t care what my boss says, I’ll throw her out the front door if she keeps me from cleaning up and closing.’

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

A look of displeasure marked the goddess’s face with the frustration building in the waitress’s mind.

“I’ll have the same thing that man over there is having.” The goddess pointed to the man who was pulling out some cash to pay his bill. He had only taken a few bites of his meal and left a sizable amount of food on his plate.

“Alright. A burger and fries then. Is there anything else?” The waitress waited for a response while itching to get done her shift.

“I was wondering why you keep smiling like that. You don’t seem very happy. Have I done something to upset you?” The goddess focused her full attention trying to gauge the waitress’s thoughts and feeling.

“Oh? I’m not upset. I’m just a bit tired from working a long shift. I’ll have that order out for you straight away.” The waitress’s smile cracked and she strained to keep up her appearance before quickly shuffling off to the kitchen.

‘Just ignore her. She’s just some stuck up rich white woman trying to get a rise out of you. She probably would use that as an excuse to not tip you and then go home laughing at how I yelled at her and now she get to have me fired. Why does god hate me?’

That puzzled the goddess. ‘God?’. The goddess dug through the information available to her and learned about the religions this world had and the gods the humans worshiped now. ‘I don’t feel a presence of any of these gods. I can’t feel anyone respond when I reach out. What happened to the gods that I used to know and where are the gods these humans worship now.’
