My new familiars were just as affectionate as ever.
“But I want to go too!” (Tabby)
“Sister, we need to let master decide. If she says that she wants us to stay home, that is what we must do.” (Cat)
“Master! Please reconsider. How am I going to be able to serve you if I have to stay home?” (Kit)
“Yeah! We need to go so we can assist you if you need anything.” (Tabby)
“Sister, you just want to explore. It will only make trouble for master.” (Cat)
“No! I promise I won’t make trouble!” (Tabby)
You didn’t dispute that you just want to explore...
As soon as I told my new familiars I needed to go run an errand, they wouldn’t stop begging me to bring them with me.
Everyone but Katya. The mother has just been standing back watching this whole fiasco without saying a word.
“Master! I need to go to protect you. If you were to get into trouble I wouldn’t be able to save you if you leave me behind.” (Kit)
“If he gets to go, then I can go too.” (Tabby)
“That’s enough. You all need to stop harassing our master. If she says she is going on her own, we must accept that.” (Katya)
“But, mom...” (Tabby)
“None of you have even used your human form form a whole day. We would be a liability if master were to be in danger.” (Katya)
*humph* (Tabby)
“I understand. I need to get stronger so I can protect our master in the future.” (Kit)
I think everyone understands now.
“Okay everyone, I need you to get used to being in your human form. There is still some cleaning that can be done around here. Figure out what you need to have in order to fix up the roof. If we can get the roof fixed, then you will have some rooms to live in on the second floor. There are three rooms up there. If you can fix them, then you can decide what you need for living space. I’ll have you send out Cat for supplies and I’ll leave some money to get what you need. You have access to most of my knowledge, so, I can trust that you can do this.” (Me)

That should keep them busy this weekend. Monday I can meet with the principle to enroll them, but I need some IDs first.
———
This is the third shrine I’ve been to today.
The first one had no idea how to get a fake ID. The god there sent me over to the next town where he thought there might be someone who knows.
I have my suspicions that he just didn’t want to tell the foreigner who’s new in town.
I ended up taking the train over to the city but I ended up getting lost.
I found a wandering spirit who seemed a bit shady and they told me to go to a shrine on the other side of town.
That took me an hour on foot.
That god told me she gets everything she needs from the god in the shrine back on the other side of town from where I just came from.
She assures me that that god will have the information I need.
This has been a long day.
The last shrine is a very small one. It’s less than half the size of mine.
The last god told me that the god here is a god of knowledge. He grants those who pray to him a blessing that can have a wide range of effect. From getting better grades, to getting that promotion at work.
But now that I’ve seen how little divine energy is here, I’m guessing people don’t come here often.
*dong* *dong*
*dear god of this shrine, I pray that you may grant me the knowledge I seek.*
“...”
*ahem, I, a fellow god, am seeking a favor*
“...”
*anyone there?*
“...”
Where is the god of this shrine? It’s not like he can’t hear me when I pray here. Gods can hear the prayers at their shrine from anywhere.
I’ll just have a look around.
