Chapter Six: New God Of The Old Shrine

I guess it is a short walk.

I never realized I lived so close to a school.

Maybe I can convince a bunch of high schoolers to come pay respects to the shrine?

———

Schools are... uncomfortable.

Everything seems so clean compared to where I’ve been living.

There are all these people running around, and having fun.

Everyone seems to have a group of friends already.

Wait! Why am I nervous about going to school! I’m a god for heavens sake!

“Alright, you can come in now.”

The principle seems strict. He has such a stern face.

We haven’t even said anything yet.

“I would like to have this young lady enroll here. She said she’s never been in school before, but I can tell she’s a smart girl. She doesn’t have any family here but If there is any trouble I live next door to her so you can call me if anything happens.”

“Okay, there is a bunch of paperwork that I’m going to need you to fill out. Do you have some time right now so I can go over it with you... miss?

Oh, that’s right. I haven’t told this old granny my name yet. It seems pretty weird that she never asked but then again I never asked her name.

“My name is ...” what did I say my name was when I was signing all the immigration paperwork?

“She hasn’t told me her name yet either. I thought she must have a reason. Are you alright giving mr. principal your name?”

It’s a good thing I brought my ID. I can’t remember what I wrote my name down as for the life of me.

I’ll just dig out my ID and pass it over while I get a quick peek.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“This says your name is Gavriel Fortunata. Am I saying that right?”

“Yes that the English order. My given name is Gavri’el.”

This was a name I chose while I was being rushed to fill out paperwork. I know it’s kind of odd, but I had a friend once call me Gabriel, she has the strength of a god.

It was a little ironic because I do, in fact, have the strength of a god.

Back then I didn’t even have any divinity saved up.

Now that I have a little bit in reserve from absorbing the ambient aura of the shrine, I could lift much more.

If I can get this old granny to put some more faith in my shrine I could get strong enough to bond all my little kitties as my bonded familiar.

They may not be as strong as a wandering spirit, but I can put more of my divinity in them because they are empty vessels at this point.

“Miss Fortunata! Are you listening?”

Oh, I haven’t been paying attention. I guess I got lost in though, thinking about my little kitties.

“Sorry, I’m listening now.”

“As I was saying. After we fill out these papers we can be ready for you to start school Monday. Does that work for you?”

“Yes. I will be here early Monday morning.”

“Good, that means you will have time to meet your teachers and find your classroom.”

Just keep smiling like I want to be here and then I can go back home and play... I mean do some work on the shrine.

———

“Here you go little miss Fortunata. I brought over an old school bag and some other supplies. This should be enough to get you started.”

“Thank you granny.”

“Oh, my name is hanako, dear. But if you want to call me grandmother, I don’t mind.”

Yeah, after all the trouble this old granny has put me through today, She’s old granny to me.

“I’ll be sure to let you know how my first week at school goes. Bye bye.”

I can finally go back home...

“What’s This!!!”
