Chapter Four: Being An End Game Video Game Character Isn’t Easy

~Anna

We are totally lost.

I am lost and the one person I looked up to my entire life is the one leading me.

And she is lost too.

The great hero Xylia is nothing like I thought she would be. I’m not even sure what I should have expected. Of course someone who pilots a small airship into the center of a raging storm on top of a mountain and single handedly kills the great dragon of death and all his zombie hordes as a typical day would be a bit loopy.

I have heard stories all my life about the amazing hero and all her epic quests. Now I’m lost and following her through a forest because she said she wanted to ride a centaur.

She is completely insane.

This is all happening so fast too. Just last week I was working in my fathers bar and the most pressing concern I had was how I could get my dad off my back about finding a nice man to marry and start a family.

The back water town I grew up in felt like a trap.

I was certain I was going to have to marry some fish monger I didn’t like and grow old never having seen the world.

Then, this beautiful woman shows up in the bar. I could tell She must have been from far away just by the way she carried herself.

At first I couldn’t think about anything other than how stunning this woman is. I froze up when she talked to me and there was this pressure she exerted that made my legs weak and my mind fuzzy.

I panicked and ran away.

Something about this woman made my heart flutter in both attraction and fear.

My dad never understood my fascination with the hero. All he cared about was that I needed to settle down and make him some grandkids. Just the thought of marrying any of the single men I knew in town made me cringe. I just wanted to be an adventurer and fall in love with someone half as heroic as Xylia.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

I always wished I could travel the world with a beautiful woman by my side but now I’m not so sure. I think the gods have a sense of humor.

*crack*

Xylia stopped suddenly in front of me and I walked in to her before I had time to stop.

She had a cold look in her eye and a smile that made my blood run cold.

“Hey You!” Xylia shouted as she turned to her right and pointed to a rock outcropping. “Take me to your leader!” The smile she had plastered on her face had a crazed tinge to it.

Out from behind the rock a centaur stepped out while holding on to a spear pointed straight at us.

“This is the border of centaur lands. Turn back now and I’ll let you live.” The centaur spoke with a deep voice and even though he spoke the common tongue it was steeped in a thick accent.

“Ha! Take me to your chief. I have business to speak with him about.” Xylia commanded with a unseen force behind her words.

The centaur man paled and his spear tip wavered.

“If you won’t take me to him I’ll just keep making my way to the mountains. And if you’re thinking about trying to stop me...” Xylia’s smile grew even more maniacal. “I have some idea of what I want to do to you.”

She had said earlier that she was going to try and ride a centaur but now I don’t think she was kidding. I think she actually wants to ride one. That’s suicidal! I know she strong but even her abilities have their limits.

The centaur’s eyes grew wide and he seemed to unconsciously take a step back.

“I’ll take you to him, but if you try anything I won’t hesitate to kill you.”

With the way the centaur is trembling I’m pretty sure that’s just an empty threat.
