Chapter Seven: New God Of The Old Shrine

“Why is there so much?”

When I got back to the shrine today, there was an abundance of divinity flowing around.

Did the old granny really have this much faith in this old shrine? She did say she used to visit here often.

I can’t let this go to waste. There should be enough to bond all those kitties as my familiars.

It doesn’t take much divinity to bond a familiar, but you need to have enough energy that you can give some to form your new bond.

If you don’t have any divinity left after forming the bond, then your familiar will start out pretty weak. They can grow more powerful after you gain more divinity later on, though. So it’s no big deal for me.

If I’m going to split my bond between four familiars, they aren’t going to be very powerful to begin with. It will also be much harder to make them stronger.

“Here, kitty kitty kitty. All of you gather around.”

I need to make sure they consent to being my familiar. If I don’t, and I don’t have enough power to keep them in check, in the worst case scenario, they would turn on me and because I would be in a weakened state, I wouldn’t be able to defend myself.

While a god wouldn’t be able to be killed by just a few familiar alone, we can still get hurt.

I couldn’t in a million years picture my little babies attacking me.

“...” at least not out of malice. They still want to bite and play all the time.

“Okay, this is very serious, so I need all of you to calm down and pay attention.”

It’s just like the white one to settle down so easy while his sisters are still trying to play.

“Okay, you two. I need you to stop for a moment and listen.”

Okay, all eyes on me. I really hope they all want to stay with me.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“I know I’ve told you that I wanted to make you my familiars before. I said I was going to wait a while longer until you were all adults, but something has changed and I have the power to do it now. Also, I’m going to have to be out of the house more during the week and it would be nice to have you with me.”

They seem to be listening.

“If you don’t want to be my familiar, you can run off and play. If you do want to be my familiar, stay here and I’ll form the bond.”

Awe, they all stayed! This is going to be so much fun, having someone with me at school during the week will make me much more comfortable.

I’m not nervous about going to high school! It would just be nice to have my familiars with me in case I need them.

You know, for... reasons...

I’m not nervous!

“First, I form a bond with you. You will now be known as Cathrin, my grey and peach little fur ball. Because you are always so curious, I grant you all my knowledge.”

“Next, I form a bond with you. You will now be known as Katya, my loving mother cat of three. Because you are so caring and loyal, I grant you all my wisdom.”

“On to you, I form a bond with you. You will now be known as Tabitha, my beautiful ginger girl. Because you are always so energetic, I grant you all my strength.”

“Lastly, I form a bond with you. You will now be known as Christopher, my loyal and diligent soldier. Because you are always so loyal and attentive, I grant you my luck. And for you, I also grant you my blessing to protect you and help you grow stronger faster.”

My eyelids are heavy. All that power drain has made me feel tired and sleepy.

I might have over exerted myself, forming a bond with four familiars at once.

I think I’ll just lay down and rest here for a while.
