The Hardships of a Demonic Monarchy
Chapter 4: My first trait purchase.

Chapter 4: My first trait purchase.

After resting for a good hour, my Stamina has recovered a bit, so I stand up and stretch. Stretching is good for you. Ah, I should probably loot the Silver-fangs. I walk up to each corpse and cut out the teeth and cut off the meat of the bodies to be used tater. This is pretty tough to do without a serrated edge.

An hour later I resume my march to the mountain arriving there just before dusk. That took a while. I pull out my camping gear and set up camp… is not what I did. I walked over to a wall of the mountain and crack my fingers. All right it is time to put that Mana Manipulation Skill to good use. I envision the earth as soft as putty and as moldable as clay; with the most concentration into my Mana, forcing it to gather in my hands. “Earth Molder,” I say as I clasp my hands together and drive it into the solid rock, sinking in like a hot knife through butter. Slowly, I push the rock apart making a fissure appear big enough to put a door on.

I slip into the newly formed fissure. Using my hands to keep pushing the rock apart, I form a huge hallway. At the end of the hallway I mold the rock walls into a spacious room to set up as my base. Satisfied I walk to the entrance and grab the rock walls on each side and bring them together closing myself in. I quickly cancel the ‘Earth Molder’ and pull out luminous stones to light my base. Heading back to the room, I take out my sleeping bag and instantly fall asleep.

It should be said demons do not have dreams. That is why I can wake up so quickly. This is kind of a bummer because I missed dreams. I look around, ah, my base. Feels good not to be chewed on while asleep, which is precisely why I hid in a cave. Thinking back on yesterday’s events, I remembered the unassigned stat points. Hmm, I wonder, “Purchase Screen.”

A searing pain went through my forehead that made my forehead break out in a sweat. It felt as through something was trying to break through my skull! Agh! It hurts so badly! I fall to my knees, grinding my teeth in pain. After a few minutes the pain slowly subsides, then completely fades. I bring my hands to my head and feel two curved horns that had sprouted from my head. Oh, splendid.

After packing my camping supplies, I walk over to the closed entrance of my cave and I use Earth Molder to get out into the light of the morning sun. Ah, now time for the ascent; surely I’ll find a natural cave for the water crystals. Making my way up, I try testing my new skill Void Step. I focus at an area that is up ahead on a higher elevation. I try maximizing my concentration on that particular spot. Nothing happened.

Maybe I am missing something. Reading over the information, I figure it out. I picture me walking through a portal to the Void to get to my destination. When I open my eyes, I see a black swirling mass in front of me with streaks of purple swirled in. It looked interesting. Now I envision the area up ahead and see that the swirling mass made the image in mind. Whoa.

I throw my body into the mass and I land on the ground in said area. Turning around I do not see the swirling mass. Hmmm, this will come in handy for escapes… or creative combat. Thinking of a few ways to use the Void Step, I found myself in front of a cave in no time. Oh this is what I needed. Travelling into the cave, I notice most of the cave walls are barren, not single crystal to be found.

Walking down the long hallway-like cave I find a huge cavern sized room. The room was like stepping into a work of art, it was so dazzling. Water crystals were embedded in all the walls and the stalagmites glistened from the water. It was simply enchanting. It took a few minutes until I snapped out of my daze. Looking around I could just get what I need and get out.

Looking at the back wall, it had far bigger crystals, that one of them could complete the quest. Making my back there, I feel like someone is watching me. The hairs on the back of my mind are on end, but then my intuition tells me to dodge. I dodge just as a torrent of water speeds past me overhead. It had enough power to put pressure washers to shame.

I look over at the direction of where the attack came from. Rising from a body of water at the center of the room was a giant, blue, lizard-like head atop a long, scaly neck with dorsal fins. I heard of these; they are a rare species of Water Dragon that live in caves. Cave Pool Dragons. They like to hide in seemingly shallow pools of water and attack unsuspecting prey. Besides being deadly, they are beautiful creatures.

Seeing this one, I felt a though I had really bad luck. After a while it looked like it was concentrating on me. Then its body left off a faint blue glow.
