Chapter 3: My first quest is too high level!

I take a look at some these quests, and some are just outrageous. Like one says to subjugate a Rock Dragon. Those things are big as mountains! What’s more their armor is literally made of stones. Geez. Oh here is one that looks doable. It’s for rank F!

Collection Quest

Collect 5 pounds of Water Crystals

Reward: 2 Silver and 5 Copper Coins

Recommended: Rank F

It’s perfect! I know just the location as well. Ah yeah! I head out the doors and make my way west of Reslem, straight toward Water Rock Mountain. It’s a mountain that contains the materials I need to complete this quest; it is located in a forest chalked full of demonic beasts. Most are push overs though.

Speaking of that forest, I just arrived at the entrance. Hmm, the vegetation seems a little thick; I’ll have to put my backpack in the Void Space. It is getting easier to carry since yesterday; perhaps it’s the status update. As soon as I throw my backpack in the Void Space, I get an update.

Status update

+3 Strength, +1Vitality

Cool, I guess since it wasn’t as strenuous as yesterday, that’s why I did not get as much points. Still cool though. As I was reading the pop-up, a slime monster popped out of the bushes.

“Oh hi little guy, you must be a slime?” Slimes are not very strong, however if they manage to pin you down, they can dissolve you with their corrosive bodies.

The Slime started to inch towards, but unexpectedly it jumped at me. With little time to react I threw the Void Sword at it. And…miss. I then roll to the right as the slime falls into the location I was just at. That was a little close.

I grab my Void Sword from the Void Space and threw it at the slime. Sensing the sword coming, it jumped out of the way. I had already bolted toward the slime, and before the blade even struck the ground I already drew from the Void Space, at that point I slashed the Slime in half before it could land. As soon as both halves hit the ground, that marked the end of the battle.

Oh good, it informs me how much I have left to get to the next level. Now that is convenient. Well then, I guess I shall enter the forest now. Climbing over the bush the deceased slime popped out from earlier, I enter the forest.

Marching on in the forest, all I can hear is my footsteps crunching the leaves below my feet, bugs buzzing in the background and the occasional tweets of a bird. Ah, the life of an adventurer is… lonely. It has been half an hour and I want to talk to someone.

Upon wish for a companion, one appears! Just that it is a Silver-fanged wolf wanting to snack on my face. Seeing this beast drooling beside me, I freeze in my tracks and we just stare at each other for 10 minutes. This could be bonding; I could be friends with this misunderstood creature… Yeah right! This thing is feral! I could die.

With cold sweat just forming a waterfall down my back, I make a move to take a step back. The sudden movement caused the Silver-fang to lunge at me. I drew my sword and make a desperate slash, to no avail. It had caught the blade with its teeth, that is as hard as silver. No good, huh. Well one option left. I bolted.

I know, I know. Not a smart move, but hey, I like my face. While in a full on sprint, I ignore the one rule that everyone says, I took a peak back. I nearly wet my pants. There were not one but four Silver-fangs chasing me. And they are gaining on me pretty fast. Ah, fudge.

Then a suicidal idea occurred in my mind. As I was dashing through the forest dodging the trees, I made a quick pivot that turned my body 180 degrees from its original direction. And flung myself at the now bewildered Silver-fang in the middle, with my momentum and thrust of my sword, my blade entered the Silver fangs mouth and exited through the back of its head. Instantly, death had invaded its eyes, turning them empty.

I am no idiot however; I do not stay and marvel what I had just done. I used the rest of my momentum to continue forward past the other Silver-fangs. By the time I ran 50 feet, hid behind a tree. This was about the time other Silver-fangs turned around to continue the chase. I know they had lost of me and heard their rapidly approaching footsteps. Just as they were about to pass the tree I was hiding behind, I used all might to swing my blade horizontally to the unsuspecting Silver-fang.

The Silver-fang’s running speed plus my horizontal slash in a head-on collision equals the beheading of the Silver-fang. And just as the blade made its way past the spine, I used the centrifugal force to throw the blade at one of the oncoming Silver-fang and pierced its heart.

This left one Silver fang alive. And quickly came to a halt seeing its fallen comrades. At this slight pause, I rushed toward it. The poor Silver-fang tried to turn and run at the same time from fear, but it fell on its face. I brought my whole weight down with the blade and stabbed the Silver-fang in the brain, effectively ending its life. Ah, I plop down on my butt and take a breather.

That’s cool, but the last window caught my attention though.

You have unassigned stat points

With each level up you receive 15 unassigned points, you can assign these points to your stats to permanently raise those stats, or you can use these points to buy skills and abilities in the purchase screen. Some of the skills and abilities you can achieve through events or training.

Well, with all these level ups, I might as well look at my Status, “Status.”

Slow Time Lvl. 1

Through combat experience, you have learned to slow the world down for a few seconds, at least in your perception. The higher the level, the longer the effects.

It appears my huge adrenaline rush that I used to kill the Silver-fangs unlocked the skill Slow Time. Also upon leveling up, I figured how each stat affects me. The Strength stat affects my Stamina and actual physical strength. The Vitality stat affects my Health and my overall constitution to pain. The Dexterity stat affects my speed and ability to use weapons effectively. The Intelligence stat affects my Mana and overall IQ, useful for coming up with tactics. The Wisdom Stat affects my Mana regeneration speed. The Charisma stat affects your influence over people.

It might be worth completing this quest, but golly is this way too difficult for an F Rank!

I kind of fixed the table issue. I had to change the original text font (Old English), Sigh. If only people were to used to it's beauty...
