Chapter 17: Skill progression.

Chapter 17: Skill progression.

You know, I have travelled around this city since I could remember, well in this life anyway. There were many kind people inhabiting this city. They were always going out of their way to greet me. I always felt welcome. Unlike the stories and history of nobles on Earth, the villagers seemed to like the nobility, in the Starwind City anyway.

Walking a mile or two from the palace I decide I would like to fly instead. I mean I have the wings might as well. I slowly inhale a big breath and take off in a sprint. My wings began to up and down as I bolt across the road. I throw myself in the air and I lift off the ground for a few feet and touch the ground. I still had a lot of forward momentum so I when I touched the ground I kept running and I threw myself in the air again. I made it 15 feet in the air before I was forced to come back down. I pushed myself even harder, running even faster. I could feel lungs starting to burn.

Once more I fling myself into the wind, almost in a dive like form. My wings beating faster and faster, I was lifted higher and higher until I felt as though I would gravity no longer could hold me. I felt free as I soar across the sky. Needless exercise? Hmmm, well maybe. However it would build strength in my wings. What if I need to fly faster, farther, or even to avoid something in mid-air? That would require more strength than I have now. Now that I think about it, I should polish my skills.

Thinking I could level up a lot of my skills, I make adjustments in my flight. I veer to the right and aim for Ancestral Park in the Commoner’s District. Thinking back I could have easily died at the Cave Pool Dragon’s lair if I did not have Void Step. I guess I’m really lucky I bought those traits beforehand.

Thinking to myself I flew over intersection of the two main roads, crossing it, I had entered the Commoner’s District. Not too far from here is the park… Let’s see, ah! There it is!

“That took a while. Oh, no I forgot to practice landing!” I shouted at myself while coming in for a landing. I was coming in a little hot so I open my wings and tilt them up for a major slowdown. I quickly activate Slow Time. The world appeared in slow motion again.

I was about twenty feet off the ground when I felt confident I was going slow enough for a smooth landing. I got closer and closer to the ground, and then Slow Time ran out. I was only a few feet off the ground when it did, but I don’t think I’ll need it now. I my feet had finally touched the ground. Feeling relieved, I folded my wings. Mistake, as soon as I did I ended up swallowing dirt.

I didn’t have a firm stance when coming down. Almost, I was this close to getting it. Ah, oh well. Dusting myself off and spitting out what I could of the dirt in my mouth. I look around to see if anyone was here. Oh good, no one is here.

Concentrating on the Mana in my core I forced it out of my body. My body gave off a blue glow which condensed then dispersed. Purple and black mist started forming, obscuring the vision of the outside world. The air got cold as the sky blackened. Ah if I recall, since the Dungeon Skill was level two I form monsters. Oh I can be the god of this new world! Haha, at least of this Dungeon. I feed more mana into the dungeon until some black mist starts forming a mass in small pools in various places. The mist condensed and formed silhouettes of Silver Fangs and evil looking goblins with wings and spears. Those goblin things… They look familiar. Ah, gargoyles. The Gargoyles quickly took to the air and the pack of Silver Fangs started to move away from me.

I move the will of the Dungeon to make me a target. Immediately the Gargoyles start glaring me with their red eyes. At the same time, the Silver Fangs began moving in circles around me. There the training grounds are set. I want to now work with mana manipulation to develop some spells.

One of the many Gargoyles in the sky threw a spear in my direction. As the spear began closing distance quickly, I activated Slow Time jumped to the side, pulled the Void sword from the Void Space and cut down the incoming spear. I did a half spin and let go of the Void Sword. Letting go of the time, the sword sailed through the air and struck a Gargoyle in the chest. Impaled, it fell to the ground and on the way down turned into a fog of black mist that slowly dissipated into the air.

I gather man into my hands and manipulated the oxygen in the air pulling it to my hand. All the oxygen was swirling around my left hand, more and more gathered. The Silver Fangs started staggering a bit; one that was the furthest out even fell over and turned into mist. Some of the Gargoyles fell from the sky. Very cool. I shall name it Oxygen Flux.

Ignite you say? Well, I am a bit of a Pyromaniac? It would explode and I am the closest to it, I just got be smart. However I will throw it at a Gargoyle. I compact the now nearly tangible ball of oxygen. I send out even more mana to my hands building up potential friction and pressure. A Silver Fang figured out it was easier to breath near me and started to advance toward me. When it came within a few feet, I slammed both my hands together on the ball of oxygen.

The built up pressure, oxygen, and friction produced an inferno that in gulfed the Silver Fang in a wall of fire. It was so hot I could feel the chilly air of the entire dungeon get very warm. The poor Silver Fang, not even a yelp. When it was all clear, the wolf had disappeared. Along with it several Gargoyles as well. Inferno Wall. I’m naming this Inferno wall.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

I increase the spawn rate a bit and even more of these guys show up. With the Mana still in my hands I ball up my fists and slam them into the ground while in a kneeling position. When the mana left my hands and into the earth, I willed it to move toward some unsuspecting Silver Fangs. When it arrived beneath them I commanded it to rise up quickly. The earth did just that.

Moments later there were three impaled Silver Fangs. Stone spikes had pierced their bellies. Then they turned to fog. Earthen Spikes.

It was then I dive to then ground when I barely dodged an incoming Gargoyle. Mid dive, I fell into a Void Step and reappeared right above them. Taking out the Void Sword, I dived at them and started hacking and slashing. Few blocked the initial swing but fell to the second one. Some dodged and flew away.

One came from beneath me and pushed me with their spear. I was forced to slow down and back up a bit. This one had a look of complete and utter confidence in his hand to hand combat. Maybe if I can scare him a bit. I gaze into his and muster as much killing intent as I could into. So much I felt myself straining a bit. After a few moments, his smile drops and his eyes widen in horror. He immediately turned and flew off as fast he could. I throw my Void Sword into a Void Step. The sword reappeared and stuck into his throat. He quickly exploded into fog.

Satisfied I began to move my gaze some other Gargoyles. Before I could go after them I felt my arms get latched onto. I would’ve used my newly developed detection skill if it wasn’t for the mana required to maintain the dungeon, monsters, and the mana used up from the previous experiments. I could draw in the mana from the surroundings, but for that I had to be relaxing.

At the moment I was far from relaxed, and then I remember some of my other features. I looked at the guy on right, “Hey I wanna tell ya something very important…” I slammed my head into his face, making my horns leave large holes in his face. He let go to clutch his face. I used my tail to choke the guy on my left, as soon as he let go I sliced off his head did I a quick turn and stabbed the Gargoyle, who was starting to recover, in the chest. I leaned in close and whispered, “You might want to get that looked at.”

I started feeling my mana reserves starting to get low. “It was just getting fun too!” I let the Gargoyles all fade and only leave a few Silver Fangs. Still high up in the air, I dive down and snatch a Silver Fang off the ground. It was extremely heavy so I ended up dropping it. Because of the tremendous momentum he ended up flying a good distance before hitting the ground, killing it instantly.

I slowly flew toward the ground and lightly landed on the ground. Looking at the remaining Silver Fangs they were on extreme alert. Hmm, they do have a good reason. I take my Void Sword and stab it into the Void Step. My target quickly evaded it. Oh, they are on too high alert. Or my attacks are getting readable. That won’t do!

I reopen the Void Step however; I visualize the opening to be inside the Silver Fangs stomach. I then stab my sword into the Void Step, this time the poor wolf could not evade and had a black blade sticking out of his belly. It collapsed and turned to fog. Couldn’t dodge that could you?

The other Silver Fangs decided to run at me at the same time. I manage to make eye contact with of them sending them on a different path. Looking at the oncoming one I extend my claws and bare my fangs at it and took toward the opponent. Before we were upon each other, it leaped in the air. At the same time I swept my arm with blinding speed, and clawed its face. Its weight still crashed on top of me. Pinning me on the ground it tried to bite at me. I had one arm pinned and the other keeping the teeth from connecting with my face.

You know what? I feel like biting back! I lunge my face and raked my teeth across its throat. And grabbed as big a mouth full as I could get and ripped it out chunk after chunk. With each chunk, the Silver Fang got more vicious, more desperate. Eventually I tore out its throat. The Silver Fang instantly turned to fog. Before I could stand up, the last Silver Fang was on top of me. I but this time I had both hands free, so I grabbed it by throat with my left hand. With my right hand, I shoved it between its ribs, forcing my hand around its heart. I grabbed the beating organ and tore it out. By the way, heart removal is a lot harder than it looks.

Once the heart left the body, the Silver Fang returned to fog. Ah that’s it for today’s training.
