The Hardships of a Demonic Monarchy
Chapter 1: A decisive trip to another world.

Chapter 1: A decisive trip to another world.

I had my eyes glued shut ready for the death to be delivered to my face. However no death arrives. I’m puzzled by the lack of death. I open my eyes. I take look around and discover I’m unbound, no large hole in my abdomen, no sketchy doctors hacking away at me. No shady business people and no abandoned buildings. Just immaculate white space as far as the eye can see.

Suddenly A voice resounds in my head, “Greetings, you have died.” Oi, you can’t just add that to a greeting so nonchalantly, it feels too bizarre to handle. Well, at least I know that man early did in fact deliver death to my face. Good job, guy. “Now I have two options for you, one you could go to paradise or two be reincarnated.”

I learned my lesson on shady deals, “Details.”

            The voice acted confused, “Pardon?”

“You heard me, I want details! And don’t go skipping out on anything; I also want the reasons too. No matter how mundane it is.” I demanded of this shady voice.

“I see. Sense you are the first to ask for details in over 20,000 years, I will answer.” Wait, 20,000. Was everyone dead set on paradise? “Ok, so option number one, paradise. In your world,

there are many religions that worship a creator. Well, that creator does exist. He also created a heaven, which is roughly as the many religions depict. If you choose to reside in paradise, you may be able to spend the rest of eternity in pure bliss. Or you may be able to hold the highest honor of being an angel of the Creator.” He seemed to pause for a short while, that is where I spoke up.

“Pure bliss for all eternity? That sounds creepy. Angel work sounds interesting but for all eternity? Sounds boring, next.” It was really hard not letting out a bored tone, so an indifferent one is the one I let out.

“Creepy…” the voice mumbled. Seeming to be a little down, the voice continued, “Option number two, reincarnation. This is kinda like another chance at life; however, time doesn’t turn back, so you will have a brand new life that has nothing to do with your former one. And because of rule and regulations set by the Creator you are not allowed to be reincarnated in this world. You have to be sent to another world.”

“Whoa, you serious?” I can’t help but feel giddy to experience more of what life has to offer. Hang on, where is the catch?

The voice reluctantly continues, “The catch is, all other worlds are not protected by the creator. He created them all, but only watches over Earth. He might move on to a new world in a few trillion years…” The voice seemed to go on a tangent. Feeling my impatience, he precedes the explanation, “There are many gods, and not all of them are fair. The Creator is the main god and as such no other god can mess with his domain. However, he only wants to concern himself with one world at a time, till he grows bored and moves on to the next.” Ah, I see. So I may find some bizarre and unfair things in the future.

“So which will you choose?” the voice reiterates the question.

“I get the reincarnation, but why paradise? Why is that an option? I never been religious, so why? Shouldn’t I go to hell?” It wasn’t necessary to know, I just wanted to know how it worked though.

The voice seemed tired; as if this was a question he answered often, “You died for trying to achieve your dream. I mean usually people get here anyways; however they don’t have a choice. Some get tossed into hell, yes. However those guys really deserved it, like the guys that took your life. Now, have you made your decision?”

I acted like I was pondering, but the answer was obvious, “Reincarnation.” With my announcement, my vision started dimming.

“Enjoy your new life!” with that my vision turns off like a computer screen.

I first became self-aware half way through my tenth year of life. It was like I just woke-up one day; however, I still had the memory of the last three years or so in this child’s body. Along with those memories, I have the memories of the desire to travel the world and being cut up like a science project as a result.

With the memories comes the familiarity with my body. Now I say that not only because hey, new body, but because I was no longer human. Not human you say? Then what am I? Did I hear you say dog? No, no, no, I am no mongrel. I am a demon. Not the residents of hell, no, but a race that has intelligence similar to the human race on this world. I have purple skin that shines somewhat. My hair is Jet Black and long enough to almost cover my pointed ears. My eyes are completely black, even the whites. My parents were somewhat the same.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

My education that I received from my parents over the years has taught me many things. Such as a simplified version of fourth grade education of the US back on earth. Currency was real easy; one copper coin is worth a cent, one silver coin is worth a hundred copper, and one gold coin is worth a hundred silver. Also, the history of this world was taught to me, this world is also known as Zugrielia.

Along with history, I got to learn the geography and the changes of the countries and their domains. This was pretty cool from my view point. Our country’s name is the Grand Dukedom of Drayasil, which is located in the demon realm. There are no kingdoms, since everywhere is under the control of our Demon King. There is only one continent on Zugrielia; it was a super-continent like Pangaea named Iacela. And on this continent, it was basically split in half between the Demon Realm on west and the human race’s Imperial Domain, an empire that united the multiple kingdoms like our demon realm, to the east.

There were many wars between the many countries in the past, even the Great War was fought between the untied Demon Realm and the Imperial Domain. It was very bloody. It also happened 200 years ago, so some demons remember participating in it. A peace treaty was made between the two rulers that basically open borders some years later when a new human was crowned. Now don’t get me wrong, there is still discrimination, but no one is brave enough to act on it.

That being said, within the Demon Realm there are many races of demon. Such as pixie, elf, toll, and goblin. Basically it was anything that wasn’t human. Among the demons there were those that are considered True Demons. There aren’t many out there, but all were nobles. Among the True Demons, they were separated into elements they had affinities for. Like water, fire, earth, air, and void. Our Demon King is a Fire Demon.

Speaking of Nobility, there were Ranks when it came to the True Demons. Barons were at the lowest tier, there were one or two Barons under a Count. Two or three Counts under a Duke. Anywhere between three and six Dukes under a King, and two or three Kings under an Emperor. We are strong enough to step into the royalty of kings. Among demon history there has never been a Demon King strong enough to be a Demonic Emperor. When you go up a tier they had control of more land that came with that power. It was exactly like Medieval Europe on Earth.

Since True Demons were already not that well numbered, void demons were considered the rarest, even before the Great War. After the War it was only my family left. There are four of us left. Void Demons are basically extinct, being only dad, uncle, mom and me. Because of the tragic loss of the other Void Demons, my parents inherited all the Void lands. They have enough lands to form a kingdom.

There were no laws to prevent a kingdom from forming, it’s just that demons are long lived and no one really inherits enough land. We did. Maybe we will create a kingdom.

You can easily determine the race of demon by appearance alone. Like dwarfs are short and stout, Elves have long ears and slender bodies. Fire Demons have blood red skin that felt really warm to touch. Water Demons have blue skin that looked scaly like a fish, and Earth Demons have brown skin that looked kind of like clay. The Air Demons had bird wings and talons; they could almost be mistaken for harpies. Then there are Void Demons, they have purple skin that looked as smooth as glass and ears as sharp as elves.

Some of the True Demons deviated by look from what they inherited by birth, like some had tails, horns, or wings. It depended on your skill. From what I understand everyone gets a status screen, skills, abilities and such when they are an adult. Like an RPG on Earth.

Speaking of becoming an adult; today marks my 18th Birthday! My parents told me that in usual cases since I’m of noble blood, I would have a fiancé that I would live with in a villa paid for by the families. However, we are the last Void Demons around, so that was not an option unless I personally go find some noble’s daughter. They gave me the option of what commoners’ do, that is to go out in the world for the coming of age, only to return to inherit the parent’s property should they accept. I accept this option, it is way better than sitting around.

Taking Art for this book. I have no money to pay, so it is basically something to do for fun or spare time. Either way, I will post the drawings at the end of the chapters.  If one really catches my eye I will make it the cover art of the book. As it stands, my cover is just an altered picture of me in microsoft paint. Thanks. The link is right here...--> http://royalroadl.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=33631
