I nodded to the conductor and turned back to the girls, and smiled as the conductor changed the speed and tune of the powerful music that enveloped the room. The music started out low, where my head along the girls had our heads bowed. Then the drum got louder and louder, as we raised our heads up high, with the entrance of the strings the girls twirled as I marched across the dance floor. The music picked up pace and introduced horns, the girls twirled in circles around me, I plucked a girl from her mesmerizing twirl, Louise. A graceful solo came from a section of the orchestra.
I swayed with Louise in my arms, and had her high above my head with some of the lifts in the dance, but I continued to twirl her this way and that. Twirling her faster I released her into the circle of twirling brides to be, as the solo ended. When I plucked out Aria, and a lower, more wild solo came from the Orchestra. Ending my dance with Aria, came my dance with
Ashley, who was not as good as dancing as the others. So I had the conductor make the music flow into a slower pace. The solo that came from the Orchestra was playful and slow only to pick up the pace at end.
Lastly, I plucked Chloe from the twirling, and I found that the beat had become powerful and fast, the solo that came from the Orchestra became that of magnificence and splendor, and she was on beat at all times, the girls span faster and faster increasing in tempo with the ever charging speed of the piece. It became a competition of dominance, then I was rushed at all sides by the girls did the music and dance finish. There was a loud applause with the brief silence of the Orchestra.
When the piece that had begun to play shortly before our dance interrupted it, rang out, I simply stepped into the crowd and found a random lady. I tapped her shoulder, “May I have this dance?” Turning to face me, I recognized her to be a Water Demon. She had a sharp nose and blue skin.
My question was replied with a squeal. “Prince… Err, King Alexander! Of course you can have this dance with me. Do you recognize me?” When I shook my head, she let out a tone that was still joyful, though a little deflated, “It’s me Camilla Raincave. I attended your parents Coronation, and listened to your stories at the ball during that time. They were so fascinating, perhaps you have more?”
“Perhaps for another time, the stories I have gained since them would bring down this marvelous atmosphere.” I said as I stare into her eyes. She looked away and then back at me before we were interrupted.
A familiar elf showed herself, Olivia had urgent look on her face, “My King.”
“Olivia, what has you worried?”
She shifted a little nervously, “Ah, well it is um, um…”, she fidgeted a bit more, “It’s the Palace, it’s surrounded.”
I unintentionally grabbed her, “Surrounded? Do you mean by an enemy?”
She shook her head, “No, the uh, uh… peasants, commoners, and farmers.”
I backed off a bit before I could absorb what was just said. “The townsfolk? Haha, why didn’t you say so?” I flew to the space in the middle of the massive ballroom. “Listen,” I demanded, “Let’s move this party outside. Let us explore the grand city of Starwind City. This room is too small to accommodate everyone who wants to participate.”
At first no one moved a muscle, it seemed they didn’t want to go into the city and mingle with people lower than themselves, which was understandable, they were raised on this principle. So, I decided to make the first move. I descended unto the floor and marched over to the door and threw it open. Upon doing so, I heard the roar of a crowd; that had indeed surrounded the Palace. Haha, the Palace guard must be freaking out.
I walked over to the section that was directly ahead of the doors and I grabbed a random person and pulled them in toward me and started to dance and twirl with her. It was a small girl, probably no older than ten years, after I twirled her three more times I released her into the crowd. I then amplified my voice, “My people, here my voice, as your King, I would like to move my party, into the city for everyone to participate. This is not just my party, but the Kingdom’s. What say you?” I made a motion to cup my hand behind my ear.
All at once, the crowd of people yelled out their approval. I motioned for the nobles and royals still inside to come out and dance with the people. Several bands formed in the crowd as people brought their own instruments and started to form them on their own. To dance with as many people as I could I only twirled people only once before moving on to the next. I wasn’t even paying attention to who I was dancing with anymore.

I danced with a few soldiers, farmers, blacksmiths, and even a few housewives. I believe there were a few homeless in the mix as well. There weren’t just people from my Kingdom, but it seems that there a few from the foreign lands that nobles brought over. Though, they were mostly just part of their militia.
When I picked up an old man that had stumbled around in the crowd, I grabbed his wrists and sashayed side to side before turning around. When I made a complete turnaround, I felt I hard thump on my shoulder and cold words were whispered in my ears, “Prepare yourself, war is coming.” I turned to see who it was and saw that there a million faces smiling with joy, completely providing cover for that dead voice.
…
After pushing the thought aside for later, I danced undisturbed for the rest the night, every once and a while I would bring in everyone for a line dance, but after hours of dancing, I could see fatigue building in everyone’s eyes. I had seen the sun rising at from beyond the city and I had called the party over. It was many more hours before the streets were clear but I had already made plans for next few days was already on sending out information on my declaration to the Kingdom.
I sent flyers with some of the soldiers to hang up around the busiest places in the Kingdom. All the details about the speech I would give were to be handed out with in the Kingdom to the people, who couldn’t go to the speech, would be hung up afterwards of course. I also had to arrange some wagons that would normally be used for transporting the army, sent out to the city pick up everyone who wanted to attend.
Over two days, I had spent some time personally torturing my prisoner in the mornings, monitoring the construction at noon, talking to some of the dukes and some the human kings in the evenings, and speaking with my parents at night. I would like to say that those days had indeed been very productive, though the thought of imminent war kept popping in my head, I dismissed it each time. War? With whom? I will prepare just in case, but unless some civil war was about to happen and the Astral Kingdom was pulled into it, I just didn’t see it happening.
Being the third day since my coronation, I decided to make the speech in front of the masses that quickly gathered just beyond the throne room doors. I sat up when everyone got off of me, and I went searching through my wardrobe, looking for something that would give a presence toward the crowd. I decided to go with a blood red blouse with a black over coat and matching pants. It was simple, yet had a look of class. Normally I would have gone with a King’s normal attire of the military’s highest uniform, a heavily decorated military outfit. I had yet to reform the military, so I chose not to do so.
“Oh, that is a splendid ensemble,” Chloe remarked.
“You look marvelous, fit for my future husband,” Louis had said.
“Ah, yes, nothing to flashy. Better to go simpler, rather not look ridiculous trying to speak about serious matters.” I replied.
“Are you leaving?” Aria piped up.
I drew her in for a hug, “Yes, I shall be back, but for now I must leave.” I leaned down to kiss her, getting an eager response in return.
“Aren’t we going with you?” Ashley asked.
I thought about for a moment, then I replied, “Now that I think of it, why am I saying goodbye? You were trying to steal a kiss weren’t you?” I received a guilty smile as a reply. With a sigh I turned to the girls, “Alright, well it is now time to go. Wouldn’t want to be late now would we?” I turned to the door and walked out. Making my way down the stairs I made note of the general absence of the maids. My guess is that they all heeded my command to join the crowd to listen to the speech.
I had gone through the corridor and eventually found myself in the throne room, in front of reinforced wooden doors. Pausing I summoned some of my Mana to seep into the air, within the miasma I created I summoned five gargoyles. Outside of a dungeon this is the most I can do though I purposely had one that towered over the others.
I pushed through the wooden doors and was greeted by far more faces than I anticipated, I couldn’t exactly see the end of this crowd. It could very well stretch out the Commoner’s District. When I had opened the doors, the four of the gargoyles rushed past me, while the bulky one stayed out of sight. I imagined the gargoyles kind of had the same effect as dove rushing of churches for weddings. Though I had the gargoyles come back charging at me with spears.
At full speed the gargoyles sped toward me, until they had come upon me, with all their momentum, they thrusted their spears toward my chest. I had not moved a muscle, not even looking at the gargoyles as they attacked. I simply opened up four portals in front of the spear heads, resulting them in stabbing each other in the face. With the fatal blow, they fell to the ground and dissolved into purple mist.
The crowd cheered for magnificent performance, but it was cut short when they had seen the giant gargoyle behind me. It made a jab with its spear toward my head, but I had set up another portal and it had stabbed itself in the knee. When it fell to its knees to better favor its left knee, I withdrew my blade and sliced its head of in one fell slash. Its body dispersed to nothing and I turned to the crowd and bowed.
