Chapter 2: A journey begins.

Chapter 2: A journey begins.

I set out from my parents’ castle earlier today, and ah, does it feel nice. My parents’ castle is located on a snow peaked mountain, looking much like a winter fortress. Our castle is not as grand as the Demon Kings, but from the wealth we’ve acquired from owning all the void demon lands, it is almost on par.

Enjoying this nice mountain air I make my decent toward the foot of the mountains. My destination is the world, baby! Hang on; I kind wanna try this out since I’m technically an adult. I make a whisper to the wind, “Status.”

As soon as I utter these words a window appears in front of me. Here is what it looks like:

Hmm, more than ten times the amount of mana as health, impressive. Wait, a corpse? What kind of sicko does this thing think I am? That aside it looks like normal stats of a level one. Hmm, I would use the Void Space now, but I want to train my body so I’m carrying this backpack the size of me packed full of supplies for my exploration.

Among the equipment is a black bladed sword with a silver handle, this nice sword is an heirloom of the family, it has been around for a very long time. I was looking at this fine sword when my foot lost it holding and my backpack sent me tumbling down hill.

Feet overhead, face full of dirt. My day was going splendidly! I kept rolling until a magnificent tree stopped me with a bone breaking halt. Good thing my body was on the other side of the bag, I may have had a fatal injury. I had to claw at the dirt to get back up. It was not the most graceful move I’ve ever pulled. And pretty sure I just threw the family heirloom in the distance somewhere. Oh crap… was not what I was thinking because that is the Void Sword; it will be returned to my Void Space when I wanted it to.

Man, decreasing the altitude, I’m getting more oxygen, but it is getting really warm. From carrying this backpack all the way down, I feel drenched in sweat and I feel very wobbly. Golly, I’m in pain. Ah, a town! I went too far south for it to be in my parent’s domain, so it’s probably the Dukedom of Shienriech. The Dukedom of Shienriech is ruled by the Windbars, an Air Demon family. This little town of Reslem is in their domain.

I kind of drag myself to the front gate; the guards instantly recognize me from afar and offer to help. I need to keep training! The guards recognize me because there are only four demons in the world with my skin color.

With the day coming to close, I force my screaming muscles into walking into an inn to stay for the night. I made it through the doors just on sheer willpower. The inns keeper looked at me and with face of understanding he said I could pay in the morning and that my room was the first room down the hall. He tossed the key, which I barely caught.

With the door closed behind me I let go of my backpack. It hit the ground with a thud. I shuffle over to the bed not even caring if the equipment was alright; my conscious went into oblivion before my body hit the bed.

*PING*

I wake up to this sound and see a screen in front of my eyes.

Well then. I’m still a little sore from yesterday, but since it’s already almost noon, I think I had plenty of rest. With a morning stretch and cracking of my joints I think it’s time for breakfast. Making my way to the inns keeper, I stop by at the counter and voice my question, “Oi, how much for breakfast and a weeks’ worth of boarding?”

Taking a moment to calculate, he said, “20 silver and 51 copper coins. That includes last night’s stay.” His green shifted into a look of concern, “You, are you ok? Did you get lost?”

“Oh, I’m ok,” I say this as I fish out 30 silver coins, “Here, keep the change. And no I’m not lost; I’m going on an adventure.” Looking at the inns keeper, I can easily identify he is an elf… maybe he is a wood elf. You can tell by the bark colored skin. “Wood elf?”

Looking surprised, he questioned, “How did you know? Most people confuse me with the Cliff Elves.”

I shrugged, “Cliff Elves have more prominent eyebrows.”

“You got some sharp eyes. As expected of the Void demons.”

With the close of the conversation, I grab a tray of eggs and meat and head to the nearest table to dig in. Hmm, it kinda tastes like mom’s cooking back on Earth. Tasty it goes without saying. I wordlessly eat the rest of my meal and leave the inn.

Ah, it’s starting to heat up for the noon temperatures. Well, better find my way toward an adventurer’s guild. Why join an adventure’s guild? Well, I wanna make a living. Aren’t you rich? Your point? I don’t want to rely on my wealth, and I wanna travel.

Ah, this appears to be the spot, It kind of reminds me of the old western styled spittoon in America. The sign board hanging outside has a pair of crossed swords. If it just dawned on you that there is an adventure’s guild in a demon territory, well humans aren’t the only ones who do quests. They just made it popular. If you just now figured it out there is one here, you might be a little slow on the uptake.

I push open the double swinging doors to enter. No one pays me any mind as I walk to the receptionist. The receptionist being a cute little pixie, standing at roughly two feet high. Her hair is put in a messy bun; her eyes being a little big for her tiny face. Truly cute. She is hovering with her six tiny wings resembling that of an insect. A pixie.

Noticing my staring, she became flustered, “May I help you?” She asked blushing.

“Hmmm, oh, yes. I’d like to register at this Adventure’s guild.” An adventure’s ID card, kinda works like a driver’s license in the US, is what I can compare it to.

“You just need to pay the registration fee, 3 silver coins please.”

I fish out 3 silver coins, and hand it over. She stashes it away and hands over a blank metal plate. She speaks up when she relinquishes grip on the card, “This plate will display your name, age, level and rank.” As soon as she finished speaking, the plate glowed and told the information.

*PING*

Status update

Rank update, rank F

As if confirming my rank, she said, “You start as Rank F. You can rank-up with enough experience completing quests. You can pick up quests on the quest board in the back of the room. Also, the more you rank up the more rewards you get.” She said the last part with a smile. As I turned around, she called out again, “Oh before I forget, you can only do requests that is your rank or below, or you could die.” I nod as I approach the board.

Wow, there are sure are a lot quests out here.

The Status Screen actually looked liked a table in microsoft word... I had to retype it so it would fit better. This sucks. :-/
