Chapter 61

Right, first up is: I am getting lazy to fix the first 16 chapters. Anybody who is confident with their English may PM me with their proofread version. You will be credited (or if I find different people with good edits, and can't decide, I'll post them, with credits, in the respective chapters in spoiler tags. Just state which chapter you edited in the Subject box.)

Second: I'm thinking of putting up a WordPress site seeing as it has a mobile app. I'll see how this goes, but first I need the fixed chapters.

Third: the poll is out of curiosity.

Fourth: I wish I had control over my bank account so I could BEG for money to buy a PC/laptop. Yes, BEG. I find no shame as a student in begging for money especially since all prospective income locations turned me down. Since I have no control over my bank account, I could only settle for weekly allowances (equivalent to 20 USD a week that goes to food and commute expenses) and savings.

Anyway, have a chapter of a not-really-that-perfect-narration-of-a-war.

------------------------------------------

Although Cavaron's order to have the dragon transport dive down was sudden, Halrimaw reacted smoothly enough to avoid the incoming black stream. However, just as the dragon's altitude dropped, the black stream simultaneously changed its trajectory and followed the dragon. "Damn! Either it's being controlled, or it has homing capabilities." cursed Cavaron. He looked at his palms, and manipulated some mana, "Hmm, this is good enough..." Cavaron faced the two Sword Spirits, Masamune and Muramasa, "Sword Form and stay by me." Hearing so, Masamune and Muramasa transformed into katanas. Both of their sword forms were sleek, but had different hand guards. Masamune had a silver hand guard, reflecting his noble nature while Muramasa had a red hand guard that reflected his chaotic nature. The two sword form Spirits transferred to Cavaron's waist, sheathed on either side.

The transport shook as the dragon changed directions trying to get away from the black stream that was quickly catching up. "Halrimaw! Try to get as close to the ground as possible! Aim for an empty spot below!" The dragon immediately dropped altitude at high speed. Below them, a previously bombarded and now empty area was present. When the dragon was within 100 meters to the ground, "Brace yourselves!" shouted Cavaron. Swiftly and deftly manipulating his mana, he tore open space below each person within the transport or, at the least, those that had no flight capabilities. Aimi, Aomi, Hunter Spirit Yvka, Hunter Spirit Felicia, Guardian Spirit Adelward, Machine Spirit Capacitor, Beast Spirit Halrimaw, Necromancer Morana, Thunder Elemental Bronte, and Cavaron fell through the holes while Hunter Spirit Aquila merely jumped out the door. Just as they passed through, the black stream hit the dragon, pierced through the poor beast, and left a clean hole in its body leading to its demise.

"KYAA!!" screamed Aimi as she fell on the ground with a thud. Two meters above her was a tear in space. It would appear that Cavaron created a portal that transferred them to the ground once the dragon reached a manageable distance. Cavaron was already standing as he watched the dragon fall out of the sky. "Saddening, that was a good beast." murmured Halrimaw. Cavaron surveyed the area, and found nobody missing aside from Aquila who was about to land near the two other Hunter Spirits. "Aquila! Do you see anything out of the ordinary?" asked Cavaron. Having been asked, Aquila flew up again instead of landing. As his wings flapped, his eyes glowed and became sharp. Being a birdman on top of being a Hunter Spirit, one could assume that his sight was topnotch. His head turned and surveyed the area, "I find nothing!" replied Aquila, "All I see are Azuals and a ton of explosions!" Cavaron turned towards Capacitor, "You said that the Azuals are increasing at an alarming rate, find out where they are coming from." Capacitor whirred to answer, "UNDERSTOOD, MASTER."

Capacitor's body whirred again and transformed its spiderlike body to reveal a radar dish on its back. "SCANNING... SCANNING... MASTER, A WAVE OF ENEMIES INCOMING FROM THE SOUTHWEST." Instead of finding where they Azuals were being reinforced, Capacitor found a group of attacking Azuals. "Such is life being surrounded by enemies. Who wants to take care of it?" said Cavaron. Capacitor whirred again, "ALLOW ME, MASTER. THERE ARE ONLY TWO HUNDRED OF THEM APPROACHING." Capacitor suddenly transformed again, getting rid of its radar and had it replaced by seven long tubes, and each were 30~40 millimeters thick. A few minutes later, the wave of 200 Azuals could be seen a few hundred meters away. The seven long tubes started to spin, and created a "Whiiiinnng" sound. Five seconds later, "EAT HOT LEAD. BRRRRRRRTTTTTT!!!!!!" the spinning tubes flared up and hundreds of projectiles came out at high velocity. Over the distance, even before giving the Azuals some time to react, they were already swiss cheese. For a length of ten seconds, that felt like an eternity, 200 hundred Azuals died.

"What... was that?" asked Aimi as she watched the spinning tubes slowed down to a stop. "It should exist in your world, a Gatling or a vulcan." replied Cavaron, "Capacitor came from a world like yours." As the tubes stopped, one could see the smoke that left the tubes or commonly known as barrels. "OBJECTIVE COMPLETE. RESUMING PREVIOUS ASSIGNMENT." announced Capacitor as he got rid of his Vulcan, and replaced it with a radar.

"SCANNING... SCANNING... MASTER, THE HUMAN ARMY HAS ARRIVED." Again, instead of finding what Capacitor was tasked to find, it found the reinforcing Human Army. "...aaaahhhhh..." Yvka's ears perked up, "Uh, did I hear that right?" As Yvka turned her head, so did everyone else, and faced east. Over the distance, slightly covered by explosions, there were a few Azuals that could be barely seen being flung away. "That looks familiar." Cavaron's eyes glowed with Mana Sight, and amplified his vision. A horde of fast moving soldiers recklessly smashed against a huge mob of Azuals. Leading the charge were screaming Cavalrymen and other mounted units. Right behind them was a glowing knight on an armored war horse. "Gunther! It's Glorious Charge!" exclaimed Cavaron. Indeed, the powered up Human soldiers wildly and energetically obliterated any unfortunate Azual in their way. Despite some humans that were unlucky enough to receive numerous attacks, their wild charge added even more to the already rampant anarchy.

"GRAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!" A towering human cried as he swung around a massive great sword while riding a wyvern. Each of his swings was powerful enough to sever the bodies of dozens of Azuals in one attack. "LONG LIVE THE SUN!! OORAH!!!" Like a warlord on crack, the towering human killed more as the effects of Glorious Charge was going strong. "Remind me to tell Gunther to avoid people like Gulfried." commented Cavaron as he watched the towering human, Gulfried, go batshit crazy. The other humans, especially the Ranger types, made short work of individual Azuals while the mages that boosted their speed to keep up were flinging one spell after another adding to the explosions in the background.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Just as the reinforcing Human army was just 700 meters away from Cavaron's current location, the glow enveloping Gunther and the others began to fade, "Oh, hell. Glorious Charge is disappearing! Morana, use the corpses as you see fit!" ordered Cavaron. Necromancer Morana's skeletal arms waved towards the Azual corpses, "Rise and shine, my lovelies~ Risen Dead." An eerie green light covered the corpses then, one by one, they rose up and reformed to their previous state if not for the apparent wounds, bullet wounds, and exposed... everything. Morana then had an army of undead under her command that she just sent over to reinforce the Human army. "Is that all right?" asked Felicia, by which Cavaron replied, "Eh, they're already dead. I can see the value of necromancy especially in a time like this." Cavaron watched as the lumbering undead clawed their way past the sea of Azuals resulting in greater confusion and anarchy. "What a fun melee." commented Muramasa in his Sword Form, "When are we joining the fray?" Cavaron looked down at the sword on his waist, "When we find Azrael, I still need some more mana just to be safe. Honestly, I'm itching to fight, but you know how weak I am without mana." Cavaron looked at Morana, "How many can you control at a time?" Morana placed a skeletal finger on her skull, "Without complex commands, a thousand." Cavaron nodded in understanding, "Well, fresh corpses will be abundant here. If some of our allies die, use their corpses as well."

Aimi looked at Cavaron, "Even the bodies of our allies?" and said in apparent disgust. Cavaron just shrugged, "You're still young and naive. The morals you have learned mean nothing in the face of reality." Aimi gripped her bow tightly and creased her brows. Cavaron noticed it, "In such a chaotic workplace, beliefs regarding good and evil are useless. Welcome to our world." and harshly commented. Aimi looked down to the ground, refusing to look at Cavaron. Cavaron merely sighed, "Anyway, I expect you to gain experience." Aimi suddenly looked up, "Experience?" Cavaron made an annoyed face, "Don't tell me you forgot. Once you get summoned, your life becomes part of the roulette of champion summonings. I expect you to gain enough to live on your own, you can ask Aomi to help you out as she grows up. A full grown Azursa that can turn into a human is a goldmine of combat opportunities especially since their explosive muscle power can be a force to be reckoned with."

Suddenly, Capacitor perked up, "MASTER, THERE IS A LOCATION WHERE LARGE QUANTITIES OF ENTITIES ARE BEING PRODUCED." Cavaron went closer to the Machine Spirit, "Where?" and asked. "EIGHT KILOMETERS, SOUTHWEST." Cavaron called over the three Hunter Spirits, "Carve a path." and told them an order. Yvka and Felicia brandished their fangs and weapons, while Aquila pulled out his crossbow from the sky. "Go." With a word, Yvka a and Felicia bolted towards the southwest. "Halrimaw, support them." commanded Cavaron, "Adelward, watch protect Aimi when necessary. Bronte, up my shoulders." Halrimaw, in his Lord Form, flew forward and transformed into his massive Beast Form to tear towards their destination. Adelward tailed behind Aimi. Although he was massive due to his fully armored body and dual-shield wielding, he was pretty fast. Bronte climbed up Cavaron, and merely continued feeding the Converters to replenish Cavaron's mana. "Let's go, Capacitor, Morana."

Now that they have a destination in mind, Cavaron and company steadily creeped southwest. Slowly but surely, within the sea of Azuals, a small empty space could be seen from above moving about. Yvka clawed her way through, Felicia agilely eliminated individual targets with her daggers, Aquila sniped from the sky and took out a number of flying Azuals in tandem with Capacitor's vulcan, Halrimaw just rampaged, and Morana used the abundant corpses to create anarchy. The two Sword Spirits just hanged onto Cavaron's waist, waiting for their time to shine. Along the way, the Avatars were also moving alongside them, creating a background of colorful lights, while keeping the Azuals surrounding the Human army in check.

"Aimi, feel free to kill any straggler you see." said Cavaron, "You still need to get used to taking lives... Although these Azuals are sentient, the way they act makes them closer to monsters. Just think of them like that." Aimi hesitated and looked at the bow she held. It looked like a Mongolian reflex bow if not for the glowing runes etched onto its body. Actually, if one were to observe Aimi, she had no quiver of arrows. One could assume that the bow she held was a magical bow, and it was so. Aimi gritted her teeth in frustration. Making a gesture of nocking an arrow to the bow, the bowstring glowed a blue light. "AaaAAAAAHHHHH!!!" with a scream, she released the glowing string, and out came a short ray of blue light. The ray flew straight and true to wherever she aimed at, and pierced through the head of an Azual and even hit the one behind. A smile appeared on Cavaron's face as they moved, "I was right to give you that. The magesmiths and fletchers of where that came from were scary in a war." said Cavaron, "Almost every kingdom and empire wanted to have a large group of magesmiths and fletchers. Due to the rarity of their craft, though, they became an independent and neutral nation that sold their products to any person that could afford it."

After killing for two hours, their destination could then be seen. It was a hole, and thousands of Azuals poured out of the hole. "Well, shit. I did not expect a goddamn factory." cursed Cavaron, "Now, I really have to wonder if these guys were really born from the three races." The newly arrived Azuals immediately went towards Cavaron to attack making Cavaron wave towards Culverin/Ignis, who was rampaging behind them. Culverin/Ignis leapt towards the mass of Azuals with his flaming body, and crashed like a meteor. "Inferno." With a word, Culverin/Ignis created a firestorm that swept any approaching Azual away or burnt to a crisp. "All Avatars, Bombard that hole!"

--------------------------

Yeah, not really that perfect of a war. The next story I'll work on should focus on smaller groups of people say, squad-based battles, perhaps? Either this one or some other story focusing on a certain character connected to Cavaron.

All stories that I will be writing is more or less connected to one another. I still have to fix the world building, laws of magic, the people, etc.

Due to the fact that classes have begun for me, a steady pace of one chapter every 5-7 days seems doable. That, and my International Law class will be taking a ton of my time reading all of the papers by Cassese, Shaw, the international tribunals, memorials, and a crap ton of other... well... crap.
