The calm After The Storm

The calm After The Storm

Making my way back towards my companions I manage to recompose myself. Showing myself laughing like a maniac might give some impressions that are hard to erase.

“You did well.” A sudden voice says towards me. It's Ergillaz, he looks very content as his smile shines almost as brightly as all the jewels that adorn him.

“He had it coming.” I say trying to keep my own smile hidden.

“You can leave now priest, I will guide my protégée myself.” Ergilazz says towards the priest the smile he had completely dropped when commanding the robed figure.

The priest does not respond but heeds the command of the arch devil.

As soon as the priest leaves our sight the blinding smile appears on his face appears once more.

“Did you see the way Anima was looking at you? She didn't expect this. That vile woman was probably thinking that her subordinate could get rid of you and thus also keep me in control for a while longer. But now!!! Now you've officially become a problem for her. You managed to kill her right hand and have become an interesting variable.” Ergillaz almost yells, his excitement is clear to hear. His golden eyes look fierce, they resemble those of predators excited about the hunt.

“Should I watch out for something specific?” I ask seeing that assassination attempts will probably become a given in the coming days.

“Even Anima won't be able to touch you in the Talvit estate. If for some reason you do meet her or Ulthris Kaahen while we are not around, I would advise you to retreat. They might be powerful beings but neither of them has the ability to keep up with you. Anima might even try to brainwash you so try to keep your mind straight. You did well breaking out of those illusions, so I believe you already have an idea of how to resist mental attacks.”

“Let's hope that won't be necessary.” I say not really in the mood to imagine another battle where I'm forced to go through illusions.

Ergillaz and I finish our conversation as we meet up with the others. I see that Eli is still holding her familiar as a stress ball. I go towards Eli and pat her head.

“I told you I would be fine.”

“You better continue to keep that promise.” The small devil girl says to me in a threatening voice which sounds more adorable than hostile.

Looking around I notice that Ashmodai is not here.

“Where did that deluded person run off to?” I ask in a bitter tone.

“Deluded person? Did something happen?” Idrilth asks confused at the new title I've given Ashmodai.

“Never mind about that. So where is he?”

“Ashmodai said he wanted to look for somebody and afterward he told us he would be watching the duel in the Talvit estate.” Tharnomath answers in his typical cold and controlled voice.

“Who did he look for?” I ask intrigued by this sudden action of Ashmodai.

“We don't know, he simply said he wanted to find a woman located in the lower district,” Tharnomath answers clearly displeased with Ashmodai's sudden decision.

“He must have his reasons, we can simply ask him when we see him at the Talvit estate.” Sorzana intervenes in the conversation.

“That's quite the surprise, I thought you would encourage us to beat him up considering your “way of life.”” Tharnomath says to ridicule Sorzana.

“You've always been such a bore, Tharnomath. If you just change your entire attitude you might even become popular with the ladies.” Sorzana answers with ridicule of her own.

“Enough.” Ergillaz says in a low tone that immediately grabs the attention.

“I don't have the patience to listen to you both bicker. You can fight when we've dealt with Anima. Before we've killed her I will not allow any action that will hinder us.” He says as the aura surrounding him became uncomfortably heavy.

“Of course brother, I'm sorry.” Tharnomath quickly says unable to withstand the pressure.

Sorzana on the other hand doesn't seem bothered by the insane amount of pressure. She simply walks over to Ergillaz and hugs him around his neck.

“My dear, you know that I do so enjoy getting you all riled up.” Sorzana says in an even more seductive tone than she normally has, licking her lips whilst looking intently at Ergillaz's golden eyes.

'You guys do know we're all still here right?' I think as I cover Eli's eyes. I would assume that they don't cross the line in public, but I don't think there are rules about that here. So just to be safe let's cover the eyes of the innocent.

“Don't test me, Sorzana.” Ergillaz says in a serious tone, quickly rejecting her advances.

'I'm pretty sure they dated. Well, maybe not “dating.” Do demons and devils even date? Questions for a later date.' I think trying to distract myself from the lover's spat happening in front of me.

“Let's go.” Ergillaz commands, finally dropping his suffocating aura.

We arrive at the Talvit estate. A fallen angel with a conflicted expression stands guard before the estate.

“What's the matter.” Tharnomath asks the fallen angel which thanks to his voice sounds more like “tell me, or you're dead.”

“Your lordship, the woman that sir Ashmodai brought from the lower district appears to be blind.” The fallen angel says, clearly uncomfortable with the subject.

'Wait, a blind woman from the lower district? He wouldn't have… No, he would.' I think to myself remembering that I mentioned Leilaya in the brief conversation we had.

“Has anyone seen her enter the estate?” Ergillaz asks, facepalming while he speaks.

“Sir Ashmodai was using illusion magic on the woman before he entered the estate.”

“Good, is that all?” Ergillaz asks seemingly annoyed.

“We locked up the imp that was in her company, your lordship. It kept trying to steal all the gems in the estate.”

'Jep, that's Leilaya and Randyl alright… I really have to watch my mouth from now on. These devils always have a way to make me regret everything I've said.' I think not in the mood to deal with this situation.
