Passed The Gate

Passed The Gate

“I wasn't aware that I was performing a show.” I say in a disgruntled tone to all the onlookers.

Seemingly satisfied with my action of killing that brute, they continue doing what they were doing. I finally manage to enter through the gate and see even more different species of demons.

'Are they all actually demons?' I wonder.

There is great diversity: undead, succubus, devils, headless knights, and even some creatures which seem to be the embodiment of curses. While the diversity is impressive and probably pretty alarming for my survival. I've noticed something else that seems equally important. Some walk around with chains embedded in their flesh through some kind of magic. All these seem to have the state [Enslaved]

[Enslaved] This creature's free will lays in the hand of its master. Disobeying the master will result in excruciating pain and in some cases even death.

'Quite a brutal fate.' I think to myself as I make my way towards the first tavern I see.

I'm going to a tavern because I need a place to stay. While demons don't need to drink, feed or sleep. It is advised because demons feed on desires and this fulfills primitive desires (the desire to feed, drink and sleep are still desires even if they are not necessary). The dark area which I roamed for those years is also special. Because there is no light there, your body will not strictly follow the time cycle. However, you will most likely go mad after a while from the desolation. I guess I should thank that bigmouth once I get the chance.

I arrive in front of a building called “the sinning eye”. From the noise and the general atmosphere, it is safe to assume that this is a tavern. My hunch is confirmed as I enter through the door. My nose is welcomed by a barrage of smells: Alcohol, smoke, blood also probably some type of drugs, but I wouldn't know.

My eyes land on an ongoing poker game and see 2 men gambling. The first one seems to be a typical devil. He has horns coming out of his head, has the typical red skin, and seems to be wearing a suit. His opponent seems to be a smaller fire spirit. He's about the height of a goblin and seems to have the same skeletal frame. I can see that because he literally looks like a little skeleton on fire.

The devil seems confident, while the little fire demon is the exact opposite. Looking at the state of the game, I can quickly see why. I make my way to the bartender, trying not to get in a fight.

When I arrive, a succubus behind the bar says in a seductive low tone. “What can I do for you?” as she leans a bit closer, making the distance of our faces rather close.

“I would like to rent a room to sleep in.” I say in a dry tone to draw a line.

“Very well, can you pay?” she asks, seeing that I'm not someone of probable note.

I look at my shadow and pull out the great war hammer of that brute. There is a loot after all that you can keep the stuff of the person you kill in Lucille's light. Cornelius taught me this spell, so I won't become an unnecessary target.

“Will this do?” I ask while giving her the war hammer.
