Studying And Shopping

Studying And Shopping

After having that “thrilling” business meeting with Ergillaz, I explained the situation to Cornelius and Elizabeth. After some deliberation, we decided that I should finish my study about rituals, considering that there is a wide range of them.

'Even if I don't use them, I should be able to recognize them.' I think to myself.

I also have the hope that Elizabeth will be less scared of the demons and potentially could even get trained by someone. I would do it myself, but my knowledge is also limited.

*2 weeks pass*

'FINALLY!' I celebrate mentally. After 2 weeks, I finished reading all those uncomfortably large books. Thinking back at the 2 weeks, I must admit that they were quite boring. I studied rituals and gave Cornelius the task to help Elizabeth win over her fear. I will never say this to his face, but he has the ability to make you feel comfortable, whatever the situation is. I would know, I walked with him for 2 years in a place with nothing but darkness, traveling to a city where I thought I was gonna get killed the first day.

It seems to have worked, as I've already visited the marketing district with her. She didn't show too much fear as we looked around for some new clothes to buy. Personally, I couldn't be bothered by how I looked, but apparently being under contract with Ergilazz gives us a new “social status”.

If I had to compare it to something from my old world, it would be the equivalent of going from a normal person to a Hollywood celebrity. That was made clear to me by one of those fallen angels of his.

*Flashback begins*

“For as long as you are associated with my lord, we will not allow anything that would comprise his greatness.” The fallen angel who barged into my room says in a scolding tone.

“I don't remember doing anything to warrant this sudden warning.” I respond, not even giving a glance towards the intruder.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“Your attitude while slightly uncivil is not the problem in this instance. Your appearance is.”

“That hurts,” I answer back in a tone that makes clear I absolutely do not care.

The fallen angel noticing my stubborn attitude decides to switch tactics.

“You see, my lord's dear new and well-respected acquaintance. You have to go to the market district one of these days, and you might not care about your appearance. But what about the little girl? Would she not be excited to have the chance to finally change to something proper?” She asks in this purposefully innocent and inquiring voice.

“......”

I decided not to answer, but it seems that she noticed that it made me think as she continues her barrage.

“A little girl who's never experienced any…”

“FINE!” I yell in annoyance.

“I'll go to the damn market district if she wants to go,” I answer, which makes the fallen angel visibly happy.

“Of course, if there is anything you need, don't be afra…” she responds before I interrupt.

“I need you to leave me alone,” I say to her, showing my full annoyance at her constant bickering as the aura surrounding me becomes darker and colder.

The fallen angel gives a quick nod and dashes out.

Eli seemed to actually be rather excited at the prospect of going shopping together. Her fears of demons seem to have almost completely dissipated.

'I don't know how Cornelius does it, but he does truly seem to have a talent for talking with and calming people.'

At the end of our little shopping spree where it seems all the vendors were made aware that all due payments should be forwarded to Ergilazz, we indeed came out with some new clothes.

Elizabeth chose this primarily black with tints of green dress that seems to resemble her blackish lips and green eyes. Yet offers an interesting contrast with her pale white hair. She seemed happy with her purchase, so who am I to judge.

The clothes were clearly more suited to that of a medieval time, so I decided to just accept that and dress a bit more in the norm. I simply asked for some kind of black suit, and the shopkeeper seemed to give me a quick look as if she suddenly receives some sort of eureka. The shopkeeper quickly dashes into the back of the shop as she comes with my “black suit.”

She gave me a hoodless black cloak which was clearly of high quality, as the shoulder pads are made of quality black fur, and the sleeves are made of whirling black chains imbued with protection enchantments. The shirt and pants also seem to be made of high-quality black leather. I have no complaints about the pants, but the shirt was “interesting”. The shirt has a v neck that doesn't simply expose the center of my chest, it even extends towards my abdomen.

I simply sigh before returning to the tavern with Eli.
