An Ethereal Confrontation

An Ethereal Confrontation

The wraith knight doesn't seem amused by my mocking statement as he continues to glare at me like I'm a pest that has to be eradicated.

“What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?” I ask him in a cold tone and hostile tone.

“I don't see any reason to amuse a soon-to-be-dead demon.” The wraith knight called Areon answer in this ethereal and mysterious voice. His eyes resembling that of the wraith queen as the glares he sends my way feels like Tharnomath's pressure when we fought.

“You don't talk a lot, and you're delusional. If the wraith queen's troops are all like you then this will be easier than I thought.” I say trying to figure out if I could find a weakness to provoke him.

“An insect should not talk about matters that it doesn't understand.” Aeron answers seemingly not fazed by my provocation attempts.

Silence follows as we just let our auras do the talking for us. A familiar voice breaks the silence.

“Are there any issues?” A voice resembling that of the announcer asks.

I turn around and see some sort of demonic tree walk towards us. The seemingly withered tree does have some clear humanoid features, however: a mouth without teeth, eyes sockets with a dark red light behind them, and 2 larges branches where ears should be. The seemingly withered tree comes closer as I notice the robe he's wearing. The gray robe is completely decorated with rubies, showing that he's a higher rank than any of the other priests I've seen.

“I don't believe so Treyah Tuldani, the first sight of the goddess.” Ergillaz answers in a polite tone.

“What about you Anima? All conflicts can be resolved when the tournament is over.” The demonic tree says towards Anima, clearly not content that she hasn't answered his question.

“That depends, maybe it's what the goddess would want.” She says her eyes looking at him with a mix of ridicule and disdain.

“I'll have you know, Anima if the goddess wanted something, Then I would have known. I am the first sight of Luciel, don't forget that wraith queen.” He says making his way towards her, getting right in her face. His voice filled with hatred and animosity.

“Of course, how could I forget.” She says whilst rolling her eyes.

“Get out.” The high-ranking demon priest commands in a low and dangerous voice, dark red light emanating from inside him.

The wraith queen beckons all of her followers to leave as she heeds the order of the first sight.

“I wish you luck shade demon. If you're ever dissatisfied with Ergillaz, please do come to me.” She says a smirk appearing on her face. Ergillaz clearly irritated as he grits his teeth in response to her comment.

The wraith queen and her entourage leave as the tree priest turns towards Ergillaz and Sorzana.

“It's been quite a while Mister Talvit and miss Solquit.” He says his mood brightened as soon as the wraith queen left. His voice now completely resembles that of the wrestling announcer.

'That voice is coming out of a demonic tree?' I ask myself wondering if that makes him more creepy or less creepy.

“We've been rather busy, first sight.” Sorzana answers surprisingly polite and well-mannered.

“I guess it can't be helped, anyway I came here to stop any fighting that should be spared for the show. But seeing that everything has been settled I'll leave you all be.” He says immediately leaving as soon as he finished speaking, leaving no chance to bid him farewell.

“Who was that?” I ask out loud not really sure what just happened.

“That was Treyah Tuldani, he's the highest-ranking priest in the church and also the leading voice in the council of sight. The council of sight is the head of the church.” Tharnomath answers in his typical calm and cold voice.

“Quite an important person.” I say a bit overwhelmed by the fact that I was surrounded by an arch devil, A person who's closer to being pope than a priest, the most powerful succubus, the wraith queen, and the most renowned orcish champion.

“Well, less important than you think but indeed they have their purpose.” Ergillaz says clearly not bothered by the treant demon called Treyah Tuldani.

“That doesn't sound as praise for the church.” I say trying to get a read on the situation.

“It wasn't” Ergillaz answers in a firm tone.

“Ashmodai, would you be so kind to stay behind and see when we're expected to return?” Ergillaz asks but let's be honest it was clearly more a command.

“I guess.” Ashmodai answers nonchalantly.

“Well, that would be tomorrow right?” I ask apparently out of the loop.

“No, the third round has passed, and now they will hold only 1 battle a day,” Tharnomath answers, seeing that I'm out of the loop he decides to continue explaining.

“You don't have to win the tournament to receive a name blessed by Luciel. If you're strong enough you will receive one. However, seeing that the battles will become fiercer and fiercer, the chance of death will be higher. That's why the church only holds one battle a day, if a promising demon gets killed they will try to resurrect him using a ritual that takes a lot of mana and time.”

“Okay, what are we going to be doing?” I ask getting a bit annoyed at the lack of general information I've received.

“Well, it's only natural for potential opponents to watch each other fight so that any possible tricks could be learned. However, we're dealing with the wraith queen, so you will be watching in the Talvit estate.”

“How?”

“I believe you've seen matches whilst you were waiting. We will be using the same runic spell. Any issues with that plan?” Tharnomath asks but feeling the temperature drop it seems to be more of a strong suggestion.

“No, everything is clear.” I answer quickly as the temperature continued to get lower, the longer I waited.
