Day 1 part 2

Squirt my jet, squirt for your life! ...okay I may be over-exaggerating here... the brightly colored critter isn't able to even keep up. Poor sea-horse, you're just lost and hungry in this big bad sea. Hovering along, you just chanced upon me. Now if I hadn't noticed you I'd be a meal...

Racking pain assaulted me and I fell to the sea floor. It was agony, absolute mind numbing pain as my body nearly tore as I expanded, my injuries though were not healing, only opening again. I thrash on the sea-floor, sending clouds of sand and grit into the water. I haven't really noticed until now but the water seems... warm.

As the pain begins to fade I pull myself together and carefully observe my surroundings again.

Its murky now from the dirt. Ah! The sea-horse is right on top of me! Wait... Ha. You're just a little too slow huh? It seems he caught up to me here, it is sitting only a few of it's body lengths away from my eye.

It just bit off a little too much. If I were to guess at my new body size; I'm about the size of a small child. Three foot? I'm still only a day old too, so this is the infant state of whatever it is I became. I assume all of this based on my knowledge of the usual size of a sea-horse; although it wouldn't be unlikely if it were bigger than the ones back home.

Well waste not, want not. Hungry after a day of fighting and fleeing I shove my banana yellow would-be predator into my beak and chew. Not too bad, perhaps a little pony. Slip of the tongue, I meant brony... no wait, bony.  

I glance at my arms and notice no 'fangs' in the suckers. That and a set of brilliant blue and white stripes indicate I must be a 'lesser icicle squid'.

My vision is much better I have to say. Now to find food.

Passive ability: Predator's Gaze unlocked~

Oh, a new window... related to my sight? Is this enhanced long distance vision an ability? I knew I had massive eyes, but this is pretty impressive.  

There we go...

A school of fish a few hundred feet away... sardines again. I think I have a bone to pick with them. I begin my attack run...

Ability: Jet Charge unlocked~

Wow... with a sudden burst of acceleration from this new ability I burst right through the school, there are several stunned fish around me. I grab them and stuff them in my beak quickly before...

Premonition activated~

Large bright red fish appear. Large mouth and only a little smaller than me. They whisk around the swarm of smaller fish, taking stragglers and stealing mine. Thankfully I got five before they had a chance to take the rest.

I'm mostly full but I could do with a little more food. I jet through the tiny fish again, only this time they avoid my body.

Annoying... they worked out how to evade the attack. Wait... I'm an icicle squid, so why don't I try some of my new abilities.

I realize I have a whole set of skills that I somehow know about. Is this what having innate magic is like? Like knowing calculus without having ever studied addition and subtraction?

Freeze Touch activated~

As the fish avoid my body I sweep my tentacles out in all directions and skim all that I can. They just stop. Wow. A few dozen fish are just slowly floating where they were touched. I snatch one with my arms and take a bite. It was pleasantly tasty. Hmm. So squids clearly have different tastes... it reminds me of crushed ice, only flavored with sardine.

I eat a few more, as they are now firmly inedible to the snappers. The few that tried spat them out immediately. Nice. I can eat my fill without worrying about thieves. Now I only have to worry about myself being eaten...

Premonition activated~

Oh, I hate that window... can't you ever have anything nice to predict?

Five dark shapes, long bodies with fins. Not sharks again!

...

No? Dolphins? Really, bottle-nosed dolphins?

Hey, I don't like that look in your eye Flipper. Stop smiling at me...

Agony.

It is like someone is letting a steam-whistle off in my ear... and I don't have ears... I hear sounds just fine but... this is a damn sonic weapon.

Shut up!

Reflection Field activated~

Huh. This is troublesome. I'm now trapped in a hexagon of clear ice with only a spare foot of liquid water around me. Did I do this? Must have. Oh, this is the reflection field spell that stops projectiles... it works on sonar as well? So how do I get out of this...?

I tried to force my way out. As I did the dolphins clearly also confused began to hit my shield from outside with their noses. Go away, we don't want any~

Finally it becomes clear to me I'm not only able to use spells and freeze things with a touch, I can manipulate ice itself.

Ability: Lesser Cryokinesis learned~

I like the sound of that one...

I use my new skill and warp my shield trying to work out how to free myself, intimidate the happy looking would-be murderers out there and judge my limitations all at once. It is a little difficult, the range is apparently only about ten feet, maximum. The bonus is I can do it without actually touching the ice. A swarm of frozen sardines make a decent missile weapon, as Flipper and co. learned. They retreated quickly with a few bruises.

As for the shield, I simply added a crack down the center, all the way around and pushed.

Yay, freedom.

I looked around.

Oh, crap.
