Chapter 120: Meteor Descends

Brandon stood in the city, motionless, waiting. He could already hear the distant roar, and the ground had begun to tremble ever so slightly. The tank units were approaching from afar. Brandon could have easily flown away from the city, far beyond the reach of any aircraft, given his speed. However, he had no intention of fleeing. This was a war—a war between humans and a mythical dragon. Constantly avoiding confrontation would only display his cowardice and weakness.

To secure his position and ensure his future life remained undisturbed, he needed to win this war head-on. Both the nation and himself needed this war to establish their status and authority. He wanted humanity to understand his strength. Only with immense power could he earn the right to an equal dialogue.

The noise grew louder, and the ground began to shake. The air was filled with a tense atmosphere. Brandon's area was already deserted. All humans had fled far away, making this the perfect battleground.

Taking a deep breath, Brandon channeled his energy rapidly, and a golden light membrane enveloped his body. Sharp claws emerged from his palms. With immense mental power, he swiftly inscribed a magic circle. The concrete beneath his feet suddenly churned, and a dark brown head slowly rose from it. Shortly, a fifteen-foot-tall dark brown giant appeared on the street, its entire body composed of massive rocks. These rocks coalesced to form its towering figure. Its features were vague and coarse.

This was an advanced earth golem spell, the Stone Golem. As Brandon advanced to the Lesser Heaven level, powerful spells began to appear in his mind, with the Stone Golem being one of them. Its defense and strength were far superior to that of the earth golem, and its speed had also significantly increased, making it perfect for dealing with tanks.

The rumbling grew louder. The first to appear were a group of helicopters, now reduced to just a few hundred. They hovered in the distance, not daring to get closer, waiting for the ground forces to arrive.

"They're here," Brandon thought to himself as several tanks approached from all directions. More and more tanks appeared. Each street corner was flooded with tanks, gradually surrounding Brandon. The streets were blocked by cars, which the tanks crushed under their immense weight, producing ear-piercing sounds.

The once statuesque Stone Golem sprang to life, emitting thunderous roars. Its massive legs began moving towards the tanks, each step spanning five meters and producing rolling thunder-like sounds as they hit the ground, causing it to crack. The cars in front of it were continuously crushed.

At this moment, the tanks began to roar, firing countless shells at the Stone Golem. Explosions erupted all over the golem, causing a continuous stream of stone fragments to fall from it. A burst of flames temporarily engulfed the Stone Golem, halting its advance. But within seconds, a giant foot emerged from the fire. Besides being slightly smaller, the golem was unharmed. It moved faster and ignored the shells hitting it, shedding stone debris as it advanced.

Soon, it reached the tanks. Its rock-forged foot stomped on a tank, which emitted a squeal before collapsing. The soldiers inside were crushed to death. Tanks were mere toys to the Stone Golem, which continued to stomp, rendering one tank after another useless.

Brandon used his mental power once again to inscribe a magic circle., and another Stone Golem rose from the street, running off in another direction. These Stone Golems possessed a rudimentary intelligence; once given a command, they would attack.

At that moment, several missiles were launched from the helicopters toward him. Brandon scoffed, starting to move. Except for one missile that hit his body, the rest struck nearby buildings.

With several loud explosions, the high-rise buildings groaned as massive chunks of stone fell, and the building began to sway and crumble, engulfed in towering flames.

Brandon leapt into the air, spreading his wings as he flew toward the helicopters that annoyed him like flies. His extreme speed gave them no chance to escape, and with a few loud explosions, the helicopters exploded mid-air and plummeted to the ground.

The remaining helicopters quickly fled, but they were no match for a dragon's speed. Several earthen spears materialized in the air, and Brandon, like a mobile artillery, launched countless earthen spears at the helicopters. Flashes of fire streaked through the sky as many helicopters turned into heaps of scrap metal, falling to the ground.

Returning to the ground, Brandon saw that the Stone Golems had rapidly shrunk, the smallest now only about five meters tall, riddled with craters, and even a few unexploded shells embedded in them. But more tanks kept pouring in. Brandon coldly watched the tanks as his body began to levitate, stopping only when he was about 300 meters high.

Mental energy began to operate frantically, and after half a minute, a complex magic circle gradually formed in the air, emitting a faint glow as if entirely made of energy. Once the magic circle took shape, Brandon noticed his mental energy being absorbed by it, rapidly decreasing. He suddenly felt a wave of dizziness and realized that only one-third of his mental energy remained.

Brandon looked up to the sky.

The sky suddenly erupted with swirling clouds, churning violently like creamy white jade, constantly morphing into various shapes. The entire atmosphere grew increasingly oppressive, even making Brandon struggle to breathe. Suddenly, a massive hole was torn in the clouds. A ball of intense fire pierced through the distant sky, hurtling toward them. The fireball grew larger, rolling intensely as a terrifying screech echoed from the sky.

A meteor, at least twenty meters in diameter, descended from the heavens like a blazing fireball, rapidly approaching with an overwhelming presence.

Even before the meteor got close, a fierce gale blew from high above, forcing Brandon to retreat a thousand meters. He hadn't expected the meteor spell to be so powerful; its mere presence was terrifying.

The enormous meteor flew past Brandon, and the powerful shockwave tore his hastily constructed domain to shreds, shaking his body violently, almost causing him to fall. He could even feel the intense heat radiating from the massive meteor.

Humans who had fled to the city’s edge screamed in terror and despair as they saw the massive meteor descending. Before they could even pray, a tremendous sound erupted from the city center. The powerful infrasound wave generated by the meteor's impact made their hearts pound, their brains swell, and many fainted suddenly.

Brandon heard a deafening roar, his ears instantly deafened, and his heart pounding violently. A massive dark red mushroom cloud rose into the sky, and the powerful shockwave flattened all buildings within a kilometer radius. The tanks, except those directly hit by the meteor, were tossed by the intense shockwave, exploding mid-air, and the once-tall buildings were reduced to rubble, clearing the ground instantly.

A few minutes later, Brandon peered through the smoke and dust to see a deep crater about 200 meters in diameter had formed on the ground.

Brandon stared in astonishment at the crater over 200 meters in diameter. No wonder Meteor Shower was considered a minor forbidden spell in his memory. As the most powerful magic at the lesser heaven level, its reputation was well-deserved. Even with his body's strength, if he were hit directly, he would likely be gravely injured if not killed.

Brandon spread his wings and flew out. All the tanks were destroyed, and the city's armed forces were exhausted. Waiting around would likely mean a barrage of missiles would come soon. He had some fear of these surface-to-air missiles; a direct hit could injure him.

As Brandon flew out of the city, a massive mushroom cloud lingered in the sky. He passed through it and flew towards the distance. Soon, a dozen large missiles approached rapidly from afar. Brandon turned to look. These missiles were incredibly fast, at least twice the speed of sound, and noticeably different from the previous ones, measuring about 30 meters long and over 6 meters in diameter. Could these be intercontinental missiles? Brandon was terrified, unsure if they carried nuclear warheads.

With a powerful flap of his wings, Brandon broke the sound barrier, his body emitting a sharp whistling sound. Energy surged through him as his wings flapped furiously, accelerating to 1,200 meters per second. Only then did the missiles stop gaining on him.

The scenery around him blurred as he flew, the environment becoming hazy. Fierce winds blew against him but were deflected by the light membrane around his body. Brandon had never flown this fast before. He quickly left the city and headed towards the suburbs. From the ground, he looked like a meteor streaking across the sky, whistling as he flew into the distance.

The more remote the area Brandon flew into, the more determined the missiles seemed, relentlessly pursuing him. Prolonged flight at extreme speeds wore him down; his muscles began to ache, and his strength waned. He couldn't keep running. These missiles clearly had independent radar guidance, continuously tracking him until they hit. Brandon abruptly stopped, instantly forming hundreds of massive wooden spears. Despite its weaker power, the Earth Spear spell, known for its speed, was his favorite for dealing with missiles.

The missiles whistled towards Brandon, approaching like lightning due to their high speed. Brandon cast a gravity field spell on himself. With his increased power, its range now extended to a 200-meter diameter with a terrifying tenfold gravity increase.

The missiles drew nearer: 100 kilometers, 50 kilometers, 10 kilometers. Brandon swung his claw, sending hundreds of earth spears whistling towards the missiles. The high-speed missiles were hard to lock onto with mental energy, so he relied on sheer numbers, hoping the earth spears would hit their mark.
