Chapter 7 - Undercover Adventurer

"Intense snoring" I walk to my masters room, he seems to have been up all night. He's laying sprawled out on the bed, and snoring extremely loud. If I didn't know any better I would think we were under attack by a banshee...

Todays Saturday and Master Chad gave me the weekend off, and we will start training for real Monday morning. As for school... I had my father drop me out, it's just not my path in life not right now at least.

Although I still plan to attend the Academy at thirteen, I don't see the value of attending undergrad school when it has nothing to teach me. My mom wasn't too happy about it, but overall she understood. My path isn't that of a scholar, in her eyes I was so much more. I was the making of a Hero to her, after our talk in the bath yesterday she has been allot more supportive.

As for what I plan on doing today, it's simple I need a real sword but I don't have the money to do so. I take the three copper coins I was given for the Goblin I slayed and head into town on my own.

As I walk by the food stalls, I spot a building that sells fabric along with needle and thread. I'm going to need this, for what I plan to do undercover the next few years.

I quickly enter, and I'm immediately greeted by a tall man in a black suit.

He kind of looks at me and scoffs, probably thinks I wont be buying anything without my parents. Depending on the price he's probably right...

My goal here is simple, I need to find a little bit of fabric, needle and thread. I plan to sew a makeshift mask to hide my identity, and register as an adventurer. I don't plan to take on anything dangerous, maybe just a few Goblins here and there.

I'm quickly realizing the world isn't going to wait for me to get stronger, it's up to me to do so. Master even said it himself, the only thing holding me back is levels...

I spot a small bundle of black cloth for 2 copper

"Hello sir... Can I buy this cloth and a needle and thread for 3 copper please?" I signaled towards the black cloth

"Yes I guess that would work, aren't you quite young to be sewing?" He looks me up and down before continuing on

"We offer a great service here you know, we can sew anything you want for 5 copper coins." He snickers

That would be a total of 8 copper coins, that wont work for me. At least not at the moment, I decide to do it myself.

"Uhh, that wont be necessary sir. I will sew it myself.." I said with confidence

"Very well, I admire your dedication. Please follow me to the counter" He said walking ahead

I bought the thread and bolt of cloth, then proceed to head home. I wanted to accomplish more today, but with this purchased I have no time to wait!

Ouch! Sewing is harder then it looks, as I keep poking my index finger with the needle. This black cloth is slowly getting stained with my blood as I continue to manipulate it into a make shift mask.

My hands are starting to go numb, from the mindless threading. but just a few moree.... there this will have to do.

I hold the mask up with a proud look on my face! It's not pretty but it will do until I earn enough to get a better one made!

I got a skill from just this? I'm not complaining, maybe I should continue making more items. I still have allot of cloth and thread left...

"Damn" I said to myself while looking at the skill description...

I wonder to myself, if I craft my own stuff could I roll the effects I desire? Knitting would be good for basic clothing I can wear under my armor... As I'm lost in thought I hear my mom yelling from the kitchen

"Lunch is ready!!"

I jump up tucking the mask under my mattress, and head to the dining room. The food smells delicious, but I have no time to waste. I want to take the mask and register at the Adventurers guild today.

I sit down tell my mom thank you for the meal, and scarf down all my food.

"Mom you really outdid yourself, I wish I could stay and talk but I have plans today" I said apologetically

"It's okay, you have fun with your friends on your day off. Be back home before dark, got it" She said holding her hips

"Yes mom..." I said awkwardly

I got to my room, grab the mask and my wooden training sword. Master actually gave it back to me, the same day he took it. I guess I was already qualified to wield a sword in his eyes.

I'm glad he sees me as worthy, But I feel as if it wasn't earned yet... But either way it's nice to have my trusty partner back.

As I make my way to the guild, I decide to do a detour. I walked along the tree border hoping to find another Goblin, I was in luck

About fifteen minutes of walking, I finally see one hiding behind a tree. But this one looks a little different then the last one, It's wearing a ragged cloth and is sporting a dagger in one hand.

As I Analyze the Goblin, I can't help but get excited. For the Goblin has a skill, and I'm planning to take it for myself.

I ready myself, unsheathing my wooden sword. {I really need to get a actual sword soon} I thought to myself.

The Goblin sensed my hostility and turned to me, still hiding behind the tree I can see he's waiting for a time to strike.

Unfortunately for him, I'm not that patient and approach them.

Knowing there's no way out, the Goblin makes it's way into the field to meet me halfway

This is my second fight in this world, lets make sure it's not our last. I wont make the same mistake I did last time...

The Goblin charged me, I side step and slice the goblin behind the knee.

Seems that was effective as the leg is now rendered useless. The Goblin still pursuing me while having a clear limp.

I wonder if this is the fruit of all my training, while in thought the Goblin gets closer.

But that's all he is able to do, I go on the offensive this time

He swings his dagger widely to catch me, I duck and slice his other Knee. The Goblin unable to stand up falls to the ground.

*Screeching* The Goblin lets out a horrible sound once he fell

This scared me, as I don't know what's going on. I need to finish this fast!

While the Goblin is crawling to me, with absolute hatred in it's eyes I walk behind it, almost feeling sad to kill it this way...

I step on its back, so it is unable to move. While looking down I find my resolve and press my sword into it's back.

Since I'm still using a wooden sword, I really had to use all my strength to push it through the goblins skin and puncture its heart.

I levelled up twice this time, this has to be from overflow of experience points from the last Goblin.

Now is the time, the moment I've been waiting for since I was three years old

"Gluttony" I hold out my hand while chanting

The Goblin turns into particles of green mana, and flows into my hand almost effortlessly

WHAT! Rank E? I was under the impression all skills in this world start out as rank F. But with Gluttony it seems I am able to steal even their skills rank... This is broken, but I'm also excited for the future to come with this skill.

As I'm contemplating on how broken my ability is I look down and see a stone where the Goblin was. So I pick it up and use Analyze on it, I was shocked.

Hmmm a mana stone. I scratch my head thinking

If I remember right, these sell for a few copper. While medium one's go for a few silver, and large ones will run you a bunch of gold coins.

I'm happy with just this, the whole Goblin corpse would have net me about 5 copper coins if its in good condition. But with just the stone, I can carry allot more back at once then I can hauling one Goblin.

This trip was a success, I head back inland and go to the Adventurers guild

Before I entered city limits, I put my face mask on just to be safe

After a brisk 5 minute walk, I reach the guild and make my way in

I'm immediately greeted like last time by the Guilds woman behind the counter

"Hello Onyx how can I help you?" She said giggling

I freeze... How did she know?!

"Uhhh... I'm not Onyx ma'am" I said awkwardly

"There's no need to lie Onyx, I wont tell your parents. I'm actually happy you came, follow me and please remove that ridiculous mask" She said laughing as she walks into a door

I take my mask off in defeat, how did she know immediately. Then I look down, I'm wearing similar clothes from those of yesterday. I got a wooden sword on the same belt I always wear, and I'm probably the youngest person to ever enter this place...

It was a complete failure, how did I not think about all these things. A piece of cloth hiding my identity?! What am I some kind of fairy tale super hero

I look down in defeat, shake my hands to release the nerves. And start following behind the woman into the door

As I entered, I was prompted to sit down on a large sofa, the theme in this room is kind of rustic.

"Would you like some tea Lord Onyx?" Said the lady smiling at me

"U-uh... Yes please" I look at the ground avoiding eye contact

"My name is Caitlyn by the way" She said as to try and calm my nerves

About thirty seconds go by, and I'm still avoiding eye contact with her

"No need to be scared Onyx, I said I wouldn't tell your parents okay" She said looking at me with sad eyes

"Y-yes ma'am, So what did you want to talk to me about?" I said while looking at the tea on the table

"You want to be an Adventurer don't you? It's my job to make sure you are safe about it!" She said boldly, while seeing through my intentions

I reach into my pocket and put the small stone from earlier onto the table

"Y-yes but I need money... can you buy this from me please?" I look at her with begging eyes

"Oh you found an Earth stone, we don't get these often. Can you tell me what dropped this?" She looked confused while twisting it between her fingers

While waiting for a reply, she reaches in her bag and places three copper coins on the table, I quickly pick them up and put them in my pocket before answering her.

"Uh.. a Goblin did, It dropped it after I defeated it." I said regaining my composure

"Stop lying to me Onyx" She said scoldingly, then continues talking

"Goblins don't drop stones, in fact they don't drop anything. That's why we buy them whole and process their body parts" She said seemingly annoyed

Oh I did something weird again didn't I... Damnit

"Ma'am I promise I got that from a Goblin" I said helplessly

"Then where is it's body, please take me to it so I can investigate it..." She stands up as saying she's ready

I scratch the back of my head, am I busted already *sigh*

"The body... It's already gone"

Silence, no one said anything for what feels like an eternity

"Onyx what aren't you telling me, I promise I will keep anything you say between us. But you are being really suspect right now..." She is now looking at me with scornful eyes while holding her hips

"Do you promise that, with... your life?" I cant take any chances of my secret getting out right now

*gulp* She starts sweating {Am I really being intimidated by a child right now, But I can feel the pressure coming from him.} She gathers her resolve, looking the monster into his eyes

"I promise"

"Then it cant be helped, Status"

*Onyx pulls his status up and shows Caitlyn*

I didn't notice it at the time, but it seems my Swordsmanship levelled up while fighting the Goblin earlier. I will have to look into it more when I'm alone later

*Gulp* Caitlyn starts sweating profusely. What kind of monster is this kid, at just the age of six to have rank B Swordsmanship. She then realized the threat he made earlier.. It wasn't a lie. I really will lose my life if I tell anyone about this? The thought of it scares her

"L-lord Onyx who.... No what are you?" She said shaking

"Now that you have seen my skills, I will tell you. But only because it will make my life easier working with you" He gathered his resolve and met her eyes

"I'm not from this world, I was born here but I was reincarnated. Since I was reincarnated I was able to choose a skill and I went with Gluttony, which allows me to usurp the skills of others." Onyx started telling her everything

After about twenty minutes of Onyx explaining his life since he was reincarnated, Caitlyn was just shaking her head up and down in silence. But her eyes show that she understands now

{I do not want to piss this kid off} She kept thinking to her self.

"I understand now, it makes allot more sense if that is the case. I've never heard of someone reincarnating into this world, or anything you just described if I'm being totally honest" She looks away then starts talking again

"But... I'm happy you are here with us, and I'm happy you are here to make the world a better place!" She is practically yelling at this point

"I'm happy to be here as well, I plan to tell my parents everything when I turn twelve. Please just keep my secret until then, and please don't tell anyone I plan to be an Adventurer on the weekends while I train with Master Chad during the week." I'm still making unbreaking eye contact with her

"About that... Although you are stronger then most people here, we can't actually enroll you as an Adventurer. That was just a joke I said the other day" She starts sweating as she breaks eye contact

"Are you sure you cant make any exceptions for me?" I asked pleadingly

"Usually you have to be six-teen, when you become a full adult. Only then are you allowed to join the Guild" She said with saddened eyes

"Is there a loophole? I'm not asking you to break the rules but there must be something"

She held her chin for a few minutes then got a happy smile

"I got it" She yelled

"The quest board is open to be viewed by anyone, and we also buy materials from anyone. How or where they found it does not matter to us!" She said making eye contact again

"So I can come in here and look at quests, kill them and you will buy them from me?" I look at her weirdly

"You will be correct, no questions asked. You wont be affiliated with us, so you can do whatever you want!" She proclaimed

"I think I will like that!" I stood up and reached my hand out to hers

She got hesitant, clearly not wanting to make contact with me... Sweat forms on her forehead while she slowly reaches out her hand to meet mine

I shake it, and give her a bow

"Then this is goodbye for now Ms. Caitlyn, I will see you more from now on" I turn around and head for the door

{That kid really scares me, It's almost like I'm inches from death at all times} She cant help but fear him after seeing his stats

As Onyx left the room, she slumped down on the couch closing her eyes

"So this is the strength of a reincarnated, things are going to get interesting soon!" She said making a fist towards the sky, as she slowly falls asleep
