Chapter 4 - Saying goodbye
Today was a good day, I was training in the yard with Sophy. I would swing until I was completely exhausted and she would heal me, I don't know if Heal actually helps with stamina or not. But seeing her try so hard to help me, I couldn't help but get back up and continue training.
"HEAL" "HEAL" "Heal" "he...al.." Sophia falls down due to running out of mana
"Hey Sophy, don't overdue it okay. Look I'm better now I promise" I wasn't actually hurt, just my stamina has been teetering on zero for the last hour
"Kid's come inside I made you lunch" Yelled Emily from the kitchen window
"Coming" Me and Sophy yelled in unison
We sat down at the lunch table, my mom has already plated our food. She cut us up some sandwiches, looks to be beef and this worlds version of provolone cheese that she love to buy at the market.
"Thank you for the dinner Ms. Quill" Sophia said while looking at the sandwich greedily
"Please call me Emily" My mom said happily
As we are eating, I noticed my mom just staring off into the distance. Something is clearly troubling her right now.
"Mom... are you okay?" Said Onyx with a worried expression on his face
"Well since you are here, I guess this is a good time to tell you..." Emily looks down
"Your brother and sister are making their way to the capital next week. Jake will be going to the Academy, and Sarah will be going to her fiancés estate to marry." Emily looks saddened by the news of her kids leaving
"Oh... It'll be okay mom, I'll be here for you still" Onyx stands up and hugs his mom tightly
"I know baby, I love you" Emily squeezes Onyx a little tighter embracing him
"I love you too... but uh mom, I need to go back to training." Onyx tries to pry himself out of his moms never ending embrace
"ahaha... Of course, of course how selfish of me" Emily said bitterly, while she watched her son and future daughter in-law go outside
*Swing**Swing**Swing**Swing**Swing* No matter how much I train this sword always feels the same, I guess that's part of its charm with Weight adjustment enchants.
As I swing to exhaustion, I just cant help but admire Sophia's dedication. She didn't have to train this hard, I would of been happy just seeing her everyday. But with her putting her all into training, I cant fall behind. I wont fall behind, as I have to be the one to protect her.
"phewww... Are we done already" Sophia said sarcastically as she's holding her knees, trying to not fall down from exhaustion
"Unfortunately we are Sophy, here let me walk you home." Onyx propping his sword behind his neck with arms on both sides using it to stretch his back.
As Onyx and Sophy are walking to her house, they spot Jake looking aimlessly into the fields. It seems he's nervous about going to the Academy, I wonder if I could be of any help.
"Hey Sophy mind waiting here for a second, I want to go check on Jake over there" Onyx said worriedly
"Okay, I'll be here just don't leave me here for long please" Sophy pleaded
"I won't I promise, I could never leave you Sophy" Onyx turns around completely missing Sophia fully blushed
I quickly run across the road to Jake and hug him from behind. He gets started but soon realized it's me.
"Ahhh... You got me master swordsman, please don't hurt me" Jake said jokingly while turning around
"Are you okay? You worried me, you were just looking at nothing for a while" Onyx said while still hugging Jake
"I'm okay I promise... I'm just nervous is all." Jake said while patting Onyx's head
"There's no need to be nervous brother, Ricky will be there with you next year."
"I know, but its still a big change. Going from a small estate like this, to the capital in a class full of rich nobles." Jake looks up at the sky to hide his anxiety
"You will do great Jake, I promise to come and visit you!" Onyx claimed loudly
"You never change baby brother, I'm going to miss you when I'm gone... Promise me you will enjoy your childhood okay!" Jake said sadly
"I promise brother" I bury my head into his stomach deeper

"But brother I have to go now, you see my friend is waiting on me. Please cheer up" Onyx points to Sophy
"Ahh I see, you are with Ms. Sophia. You like her don't you Onyx" Jake teasingly pulls my cheek
"She's the best friend I have" Onyx claimed boldly as he waves goodbye to his brother
Sophia is just silently watching us from the other side of the road, I quickly run over to her and continue walking her home.
Once we reach her house, her father was in the garden tending his his crop plots. He seems to be growing peppers, cabbage and some other herbs.
"Oh Lord Onyx, Thank you for bringing my daughter home." Godfrey turns to Sophia and smiles
"I take it you both had an eventful day of training, you both look exhausted." He said worryingly
"Yes dad, I didn't level my Holy Attribute yet, but I can feel its coming any time now!" Sophia yelled happily

"That's good to hear sweetie, Just don't rush it and have fun. You kids have all the time in the world" Godfrey turns and looks at me like he wants to say something
"Hmmm, can I help you Mr. Godfrey?" I ask to answer his stares
"I was just wondering, do you plan to marry my daughter when you are of age" He said with a strict tone in his voice
"I...I.. Uh I don't know yet... But I like Sophia very much, she's always there for me" I turn completely red
"Father.... YOU IDIOT" Sophia runs up to him and pushed him inside the house while pouting
"Onyx I will see you tomorrow okay!" Sophia yelled from the door way before closing it
I just wave at her and smile, trying to hide my embarrassment. I run home, to work on my stamina
"Mommm, I'm back" I yelled as I walked into the house
"Welcome back honey, did you do your homework? The weekends over tomorrow you know" Emily said holding her hips
"Of course mom, I did my homework in class before we left" The homework wasn't necessarily hard, just a few basic math and geometry questions
"Oh.. My little prodigy" She said jokingly as she messes up my hair
I make my way to my bed, completely exhausted from today's training with Sophy. As I lay there I just contemplate on what I should do from here, I decide to pull up my stats to see what progress I have made.

As I look at my stats, I notice my swordsmanship has finally ranked up. Must've happened today, as I recently felt like I hit a wall the last few months.

- Multi Slash: throw three swings in quick succession. If all land the third swing does 20% more damage.
- Thrust: When thrusting the sword, do 20% more armor piercing

Ohhh I got a new skill with Swordsmanship, FINALLY!
Although I'm not so sure how useful thrusting is for a sword, when you are suppose to slash with it. Or maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, hopefully next year when I get a swordsmanship tutor they can open my eyes a little more.
As I bathe in the victory of progress, I slowly fade into a deep sleep...
"TODAYS THE DAY, WAKE UP EVERYONE" Yelled Sarah from the hallway
"You got allot of energy today sweety" Said Thomas from the kitchen table
"Wha... huh... You woke up before me?" Sarah obviously confused, as she planned to wake everyone up today
"You think I can sleep, thinking about you and Jake leaving today?" Thomas clearly saddened by this
"Oh.. father I'm sorry. I'll be sure to write you every chance I can, also I wont be forced at the academy like Jake. I can come and visit whenever I get the chance, but you better visit me aswell!!" Sarah puffs out her cheeks pouting
"I wouldn't miss the chance for the world darling" Thomas stands up and hugs her
*Sniff* "Not fair dad, you aren't suppose to make me cry on my big day" She burrows her head into his chest
"Now, now darling, there's no need for crying. Today you become a Woman as you depart to be married, I just wish I could be there for you on this day." Thomas clearly upset with tears in his eyes
"It's okay... I understand, If you leave no one will be able to run the estate. It's necessary you stay here, I'll write and tell you all about it okay" Sarah looks up at her father with a smile
"I'll hold you to it! Now say we wake everyone up?"
"Lets!" a mischievous grin appears on her face
"WAKE UP EVERYONE" *BANG**BANG**BANG* Sarah is smashing two pans together
"YOU HEARD HER, WAKE UP!" Thomas goes and bangs on everyone's door
They both just look at each other and smile, clearly they will miss this.
"WHO IS MAKING ALL THAT NOISE" Emily yelled furiously exiting her room
"Oh we fucked up huh Sarah" Thomas looks at her scared
"Yes.... well I'm going to run now" Sarah sprints outside to the garden
Some time passes, my mom calms down and starts breakfast. I slowly dragged myself up and to the garden to practice, but what awaited me was Jake with a wood sword much like mine.
"Uh... Good morning brother... You are training as well?" Onyx asked curiously
"No training, we are going to spar. I want to see where you are at skill wise before I leave" Jake said with resolve
"Huh... You want to spar with me?" I asked confused
"Yes, So when I come back I can see how much progress you have made" Jake said proudly pointing the sword at me
"Okay... ready when you are!" I claimed boldly
"Let us begin" Jake charges at me
Jake started off strong, using his size advantage to take the beginning of the bout. But I quickly adjusted and swept his foot with the blunt of my sword putting him off balance.
He took a minute to regain his footing, but it was too late. My sword was at his neck, the match only lasted about 20 seconds. I guess my training everyday has really paid off, I wonder if I can fight a goblin now and level up?
As I'm deep in thought, Jakes expression turns for the worst. How can he lose to his 5 year old brother when he's 13. It just doesn't make any sense, He saw Onyx zoned out thinking about something.
{Now's my chance} he thought seeming to take advantage of the situation, even though he lost.
Before he took a swing at me, his arm was caught by my fathers. I was too deep in thought to understand what exactly was happening, but my father understood all too well.
"Jake this is not the way to do it, if you want to be better then Onyx you need to train. No one is born with skill, it must be earned" Thomas lectures Jake more before giving a smack on the ass for punishment
"Father it's not fair, you gave me no time to hone my skills. All I've done the last few years is help run the estate! NOT FAIR!" Jake tries to run inside but Thomas stops him
"Listen to me Jake, You are my heir. While it may suck now, when you are of age all this will be yours. Your brothers.... Love them to death, but they will have to find their own path in life. If they don't then you will be supporting them for the rest of your life, do you want that Jake" Thomas scolds Jake
"No father, I understand.... It's just embarrassing losing to your little brother is all" Jake said defeatedly
*Hug* I sneak behind him and hug him as tight as I can
"I love you brother Jake" I said happily
{Dang, how strong is this little monster. I can barely breath}
"I love you too Onyx, now please let go you are too strong" Jake takes a deep breath once he is finally released from that prison of a hug.
*Horse sounds come from the front of the house* That must be their ride to the capital
"Looks like its time" Yelled Sarah
"Looks to be so..." said Emily with tears in her eyes
As I make my way to the front of the manor, I see a large white carriage sported by four black horses. There's a man with a black suit on, kind of resembling a butler.
"Pleasure to meet you Baron Quill" the man said to my father before turning to my sister
"Hello madam, I am Mr. Williams assistant to future Viscount Landwin. I take it you are to be his bride, he has said many nice things about you" Williams looks Sarah up and down as if saying he's pleased
"Uh... Yes that's me!" Said Sarah nervously
"And you must be Jake? the one to be accompanying us to the capital, to be attending University of Eldanesh." He looks at jake expecting an answer
"Yes sir, that would be me. Thank you for your generosity" Said Jake taking a bow to Mr. Williams
"Well we should head out now before it gets dark, please load up as soon as possible" Williams said in an almost rushed manner
"Yes" Jake and Sarah said in unison
"We will miss you both" Said Sarah sadly
"Yes we will, Please write us" Said Thomas
Ricky runs up and hugs them both crying
"I will be in the capital next year, please wait on me!" He claimed loudly
"I love you both! Please be safe" I said while waving.
Seeing them leave is bringing tears to my eyes, we really have grown attached to one another over the years. I will indeed miss them, But I have my own path to forge. I will surely see them again!
As we all watched them ride off from the estate, nothing but silence left our mouths. My family has been deeply saddened by their departure, I wish them both the best!
