Chapter 14 - Power levelling

Today's the day I take the girls out to power level them, they were scared at first but I promised to protect them.

We met up at the smithy, first things first I need to finally buy a sheath. I have around 50 silver coins saved up, so I should be able to buy a good one!

"This should only take a minute girls, feel free to look around while I talk to Mr. Brock"

We enter the store and was greeted by a smiling Dwarf.

"Are you here to learn lad? I'm sorry you just missed it, I'm done smelting today" He looked at me with apologetic eyes

"No worries, I actually came to buy a sheath. Do you have any good ones to fit Ember" I place my sword on the counter

"Now that I see this sword, it really is a work of art..." Brock is just staring at Ember blankly

*Ahem*

"O-oh right, very well I should have some sheaths in stock." Brock heads to the back room

I turn around to see Sophy and Abby playing around with wands, their eyes are wide open while staring at them.

"Right, here you are lad. Feel free to sort through and find the one you like" Brock places a box on the floor in front of me.

"Right thank you, I will give them a look." I nod at him and start sifting through the box using Analyze on all of them

{They all seem like basic sheaths, any one you like Ember}

{There's one not in the box, its on the counter in the back of the room. You should get that one master}

Taken aback, I walk over to where she said and true enough there was a solid black sheath there.

I use Analyze on it, and to my surprise it actually had attributes

Unbreakable: Sheath will never accumulate wear and tear, when destroyed sheath will regenerate itself.

Mana control: When worn, allows user to circulate mana easier.

Medium defense boost: Gives a medium boost to defense when worn.

This sheath is unbelievable but unfortunately it is out of my budget...

Then I remembered I still have those adventurers gear I killed, it's just collecting dust...

"Oh you found a good one lad" Mr. Brock walks up behind me staring at the sheath with me

"Y-yes but it's too expensive... Would you be willing to trade, I have 50 silver coins and gear?" I ask awkwardly

"I believe we could work something out, show me what you got."

I walk over to the counter, open storage and start pulling out the gear I collected

They don't have attributes but they still have to be worth a little bit

I pull out two iron helmets, three hide armors, and a war hammer from the dwarf I killed.

The blacksmith just stares at them for a moment

"I don't want to know where you got this from, but I will accept your trade. The helmets can be melted down for future crafts, the armor will sell quickly."

I place the silver coins I have been saving up over the last two years next to the armor, and Mr. Brock hands me the sheath.

I immediately equip the sheath and insert Ember, it almost instantaneously expands and fits to her perfectly.

Seeing me in shock Mr. Brock answered me

"Magic armor automatically fits to the wearer, pretty neat isn't it" He just laughed at me

"Y-yes I did not know this was possible" While I'm shocked, I wouldn't expect anything less from this world

"W-we would also like to purchase these two wands please" Sophy said shyly, while holding up two beautifully carved wands

"Consider them on the house, Onyx just made quite the big purchase" Brock just waved them off as if saying it was okay

"T-thank you Onyx!" Sophy bowed to me before turning bright red

"Master is rich" Abby giggled before running over to Sophy with their new wands

"Well we better get going, thank you Mr. Brock" I wave at him as we head out

After walking for about twenty minutes, we finally make our way to the tree line

I check our party status, just to verify we are still in one and then head into the woods.

"Alright girls, do you remember what I explained on the way here."

"Yes if there is danger, run." Sophy said hesitantly

"Master is strong, let him do the fighting" Abby said while poking my side

"Yes, there is no need to get close. Just stay back and collect the levels!" It's finally time to power level these girls

"The levelling will probably get slow around level 10. But we are pushing for level 15 today okay!"

"Yes" They said in unison

Everything progressed smoothly for the next couple of hours, Goblins or Hobgoblins they were all taken out in one hit.

As I'm getting confident and showing off to the girls, I started to smell something completely wretched.

Trees were toppling one after the other heading our way.

"GET BACK" I yelled as I saw what was approaching

Name: Ogre Threat level: D Health: 200 Skills: D: Club Abilities: A+: Regeneration

So it's ability is Regeneration... That means if I attack I have to make it count

{Ember any advice?} I asked hesitantly

{Physical damage is useless, unless you can decapitate it instantly. You are not strong enough yet master...} Ember told me what I already knew

No there must be a way...

The Ogre charges me with a giant wood club in his hands, he's not very fast but his sheer size makes him cover ground quickly

If I had to guess, he's around seven meters tall...

Taking everything into consideration, I try to test my physical abilities. I'm not hopeful but it doesn't hurt to try

"Bring it on you fat oaf" I yelled antagonizing the Ogre

He charges me again, this time I step to the left to dodge and dismember his right leg to test it's healing capability

Interesting... about ten seconds, that's how long it takes to fully regenerate

Now I have two ideas, either drain its mana so it can no longer sustainably regenerate. I can do this by constantly dismembering it, or I can go with plan B.

I close my eyes to feel the mana around me, I pull in all the spatial mana and coat my blade with it.

Ember is now looking like the midnight sky, if this controls space and time... then I may be able to ignore his thick hide entirely.

The Ogre clearly pissed off after missing me two times, it comes at me even faster. But that's what I was hoping for, I continue condensing the mana around my blade preparing to attack.

*Swish*

I slice the top of its head, not the cleanest cut but it definitely cut. that's progress, now I just need to get a clean hit on its neck.

I watched as it regenerated its brain and skull where I sliced through his forehead. "gross"

After the Ogre saw this, I could see it start panicking. Not knowing if it should run or fight, but soon that panic turned into anger as it charged at me with only one goal.

Kill or be killed

Acknowledging his resolve I return the favor, I coat my blade in mana and charge at him.

The scene is just off, a 1.5 meter child running at a 7 meter Ogre

The girls are just watching this in shock, I really wish they would leave...

*Shink*

It happened so quickly, but the Ogre did something I was not expecting.

He saw me going for his neck, so he placed his club in front of it to block me...

But with my newly imbued sword, I cleanly cut through the club and even following through to decapitating the Ogre.

His head rolled to the floor, following a few seconds later his body also fell.

As I look at the Ogre, I cant help but notice its facial expression is that of pure fear. Almost like it expected to lose this battle, but it's pride wouldn't allow it to back down...

I feel for the Ogre, but he threatened my girls. The only punishment I will allow for that is death... No matter who it is!

I make a fist and squeeze, before checking on the two girls behind me. I can clearly see they are still in shock by what I just accomplished, to be fair I'm also in shock.

I turn back around hold out my hand towards the Ogre

"Gluttony"

The Ogre turns into green particles and funnels into the palm of my hand

*Ability acquired - A+: Regeneration*

- A+: Regeneration: Ability to regenerate physical body at the cost of mana. (Rank of ability determines speed of regeneration)

"I-incredible" I gasp under my breath

I look to where the Ogre was and see a larger stone then usual...

I walk over and pick it up, this is a Earth stone. but instead of the small ones I have been getting this is a Medium sized one. These are worth around 3-4 silver if I were to sell it to the guild.

While I throw it into my storage I see the girls checking their stats.

As I analyze them I realize I may have overdone it today...

Sophia went from level 1 to 22 in one day, with Abby going from level 2 to 22 in one day. It seems like they are both the same level, but I know Abby has slightly more XP in reserves

"Hmmm" Sophia said while looking at me

"W-what's wrong?" I said curiously

"I'm just curious as to what level you are Onyx, if we gained this many in just one day..." The holds her chin in thought

"We just got lucky, this Ogre was worth 25 goblins in terms of XP"

"O-oh that makes sense, still what level are you..."

"U-uh I'm level 40... I know it's not that high, but I promise I will get stronger to protect you!" Onyx cried out loud

"F-forty... That's just not possible... You truly are full of surprises." She is in disbelief

"I believe it, master was already really strong when he rescued me!" Abby just shakes her head like it's only natural

"P-please it's not that high, I still have a long way to go." I dismiss her awkwardly

"Let me put it this way Onyx. My father was an adventurer for years, and he is only level 51. For you to be only eight years old and level 40... that's just unheard of" She shakes her head in disbelief, how is he being so normal about this...

While I understand her sentiment, levels surely scale allot higher once you get past level 20. Even after killing the Ogre my level hasn't gone up, but I'm not stressing it. It will surely rise quickly once I can fight stronger monsters!

I should see where these Ogres hunt at one night when I'm alone, now that I know how to dispatch them... this may be just what I need to power level myself!

"Okay lets go, it will be dark soon. I'm happy with yall's progress, I can already tell you two are allot stronger!" I said confidently leading the way back to town

"I feel stronger too, thank you Onyx!" Sophia is still walking while staring at her status screen

"We will only get stronger master because of you! Please next time allow us to help you" Abby stated proudly

H-help me fight? No sure not, I would never put them in danger...

I don't care if they are level 100, I will be their shield. I wish they would just dismiss that thought, although I can't say it wouldn't be fun to slay a dragon together.

"I will think about it, for now just let me protect you" I proclaimed confidently

"Yes master of course" Abby runs up and grabs my arm happily

"M-me too, please protect me" Sophy follows Abby's lead and takes my other arm

I know I've said this a million times, but these girls will be the death of me...

I cant wait to start our adventure already, maybe I should start making preparations.

As I'm lost in thought, we make our way to the girls home... I wave good bye and watch them run inside

"Be safe! Come get me if you need me!" I yelled at the top of my lungs

They both just turned bright red and waved before closing the door.

Am I getting too attached to them? Well I guess it's not a bad thing.

I promise to protect you with everything I have!

I start making my way home, long day indeed. But I'm happy I could make them stronger, it'll help me sleep better at night.
