Chapter 6 - Master Chad
This is it, today is the day my new tutor gets here. My father told me he's an old party member of his, my dad stopped adventuring when my mom had Sarah so they fell out of touch over the years.
The only advice I was really given was pay close attention, don't talk back, and don't ask about his scar unless I want him to beat me. He shouldn't have mentioned his scar, because now I'm even more curious about it. And why it's such a touchy subject for him, maybe if I train hard enough and win him over he will tell me about it.
As I await his arrival I go outside and swing my sword, Sophy isn't here today unfortunately. Her father wanted to take her to the capital with him, they will be gone for about two weeks.
I can't lie and say I don't miss her already, and its only been two days!! I wonder what this means, I don't feel attracted to her but when she's not with me I just worry something bad will happen.
Maybe I'm more attached to her then I lead myself to believe...
As I'm lost in thought swinging my sword I feel a hand on my shoulder, before I go to turn around they gripped my shoulder extremely hard.
*Ouch* "What was that for!!" I cried out loud, still not able to turn around and look at the culprit
"You are too distracted when wielding the sword, Do you wish to settle for mediocracy swordsmanship?" Said a strange man, his grip finally loosened.
Is this my new master? I hope he isn't always this violent, my shoulder seriously hurts right now!!
"N-no sir... I promise to not get distracted during out training master." I said apologetically
"Oh, you catch on quick kid. My names Chad, but you call me Master Chad until we are done training. Do you understand?" He looks at me with hopeful eyes
As I turn around I see a large man, around six-foot-five if I had to guess, large build with a giant pink scar running down his cheek bone to his lip.
"Ye-yes Master Chad, are we starting our training now?" I look at him with eyes full of determination
"No you will be working your body to its limit, Only then will you be allowed to wield a sword" Master Chad grabbed my training sword and put it behind his back.
"I don't understand Master, what must I do to be worthy to wield the sword again..." Onyx on verge of tears, as this is the first time he's been separated from his sword in years.
"I'm glad you asked kid, we will start with you running around the house fifty times. When you are done with that, I want one-hundred push-ups and sit-ups." Master Chad snickered at Onyx
"YES SIR!" without hesitation Onyx heads for the gate and starts running his laps.
Master Chad is taken aback, this little kid has so much determination... It reminds him of his younger self, bonus points for Onyx.
"Hey Chad, let me show you your room" Thomas said to Chad while watching Onyx run laps around the manor
"Right... quickly show me, as I wish to spectate your child more. There's something about him that I like, and I wish to know what it is" He said as he stared blankly at Onyx
"It's his drive Chad, he never takes breaks. The only thing that matters to that boy is protecting those he loves. I saw it first hand when he bested a Goblin in battle" Thomas stares at the sky remembering his son standing over the Goblin
"Is that so... So young and already killed a Goblin by himself huh. This may be worth my time after all." Chad snickered as he followed Thomas inside
It seems like my mom has set up Sarah's room for Chad as she wont be back any time soon. The good news for me is that's right next to mine, So I will have even longer to get to know Master!
I wish he gave me more challenging tasks though, But I guess this is understandable for the first day...
I quickly finish my fifty laps and start on my push-ups, I caught Master staring at me intently. I don't even think I saw him blink once in the last five minutes.
{Damn what is going on with this kid, what did Thomas put him through for him to be in this shape...} Chad thought to himself, while feeling somewhat sorry for Onyx.
"I see this was too easy for you, huh kid?" Chad said proudly
"Yes sir, this is the perfect warm-up when do we start training?" Onyx said confused as he finished his last sit-up
*gasp* {Did this kid just say warm-up, most adults would be out of breath on the verge of quitting right now} Chad staring at the sky in disbelief of what he just heard.
"err... right just a warmup, I tell you what since you did so good we can call it here for today. I want to get to know you over Emily's cooking" Chad said quickly changing the subject

It seems Master Chad always thinks one step ahead, that's why he is the master though. I wanted to Analyze him but I opted not too, I'm not worthy to see his stats. Not until I've earned it, these next few years are going to be awesome!!!
"Yes go wash up Onyx, I need to talk to your father in private." Chad said while waving at Thomas to come over
"Yes master, I will go wash up now. Thank you for the training" Onyx quickly runs inside to freshen up for dinner
Chad still just standing there shocked, not knowing what to do. Thomas finally catches his attention, it seems he was zoned out in thought
"What's the matter Chad, did he do something strange?" Thomas asked awkwardly
"Would you believe me, if I said that kids potential scares me" Chad said sweating
"I don't think I understand" Thomas kind of insulted by Onyx scaring his old party member
"You wouldn't understand as you aren't a swordsman, that kid has already surpassed most masters who have dedicated the last 30 years of their life to training" Chad is still in disbelief, he obviously cant tell Onyx this as that would stunt his growth.
The reason Chad is feeling this way, is due to Onyx's unique ability. L: Mind of Perfection. It multiplies skill xp by 10x, so what he has done in the last three years is what normal swordsman has done in thirty.
"That's just not possible Chad, can you stop joking with me." Thomas clearly not laughing at the situation
"You don't understand, the only thing holding that kid back is his level. Give him two to three years and he may even be a mountain that I could never dream of climbing" Chad kicks the ground angrily
"The way he was swinging his sword earlier... It told me all I need to know, I can still teach him. But he will soon out grow me quickly, I would recommend you hiring a swordsman from the capital when that day comes." Chad said apologetically
"We don't have that kind of money Chad, come on there has got to be something you can do!" Thomas said pleading to Chad
{Thomas you poor soul, you have no idea what kind of monster you have been raising...}
"If you are really this concerned about him getting stronger then he already is, then allow me to take him hunting." Chad grimacing at Onyx's potential. But somewhat motivated to see it all the way through
"What are you saying to me right now Chad, the kid is only six years old" Thomas clearly not happy
"Then allow me to take him when he is eight years of age, that's when I'm sure he will pass me. I will no longer be able to teach him, the least I can do is give him actual experiences" Chad finding his resolve to train Onyx fully
"When the time comes, I will allow it only if I deem he is good enough myself. When you feel like he is ready, I will spar him personally" Thomas claimed boldly
{Thomas really has no idea, it's going to be a shame when that monster bests his father...}
"We have a deal, until then please don't question my ways of training. Look away if you have to, but I have to go all the way out against your son from the get go. If I don't he won't learn anything from me!" Chad said embarrassingly
"Understood... Just please help him reach his full potential, I just know he's going to do amazing things and I want him to be around long enough to accomplish them!" Thomas is starting to get emotional, as his eyes fill with water
I'm bathing with my mom right now, she's currently crying to herself. The whole conversation my father and Master Chad had was within ears reach.
I don't believe it one bit, but my mom is taking it incredibly hard. I thought she would be happier if I was strong... SO WHY IS SHE CRYING! I slam my fist into the water
She sees my frustration and hugs me... All I want to do is protect those who I love, I will take all of Master Chads training he has to offer. If he thinks he has to go all out against me, then let him. I can take it, I will take it, I must take it....
With my resolve still in place, I get ready to be put through hell and back for the next two years. As I'm locked in thought my mom starts washing my hair and talking to me.
"Onyx I have a question for you..." She said with tears still coming down her cheek
"Y-yes mom?" I asked confused
"Why must you fight, Why do you put yourself through all that training every day. What is your goal son!" She asks getting even more upset
She starts washing my hair harder, how am I suppose to answer when she's rattling my brain. She realized what she was doing and washed the soap out of my hair then looked at me coldly awaiting a reply...
"Mom I can't tell you what my end goal is right now, I don't feel like me or you are ready to hear the real reason...." I said looking down at the water
"But just know this, I will protect everyone I can, those I love and those I don't. I just want to be strong enough to make the world a better place" I start getting emotional as well
"WHY ONYX! Why must you put that responsibility on your shoulders, you aren't but six years old. TELL ME WHY!" She screams at me frantically, why is her son carrying such a burden at such a young age.
"You aren't ready for the answer yet mom, I promise I will sit you and dad down when I'm of age and tell you both everything. Just until then please still love and support me!" I'm a mess right now, tears and snot everywhere on my face
My mom just stares at me with hopeless eyes, she doesn't understand it. But she still chooses to support my goal... {If anyone can do it, I believe you can Onyx} She thought to herself
The truth is the reason she's so upset, is because she knows how cruel this world is. How cruel the kingdom and the surrounding Kingdoms are, this is not a peaceful world or life.
Between the Racism and genocides committed by all the races, she can't help but think Onyx is taking on more then he can handle. Why won't he just stay home with me, I can protect my baby. He doesn't need to fight anymore... I can protect him I swear
"We should get out now, just promise me one thing okay?" She looks me directly in the eyes, and wipes my tears
"When you feel you are in danger, please run away. I cant lose you son, and I feel you are taking a dangerous path in life... Please when it comes down to it, just run don't fight!" She begs her son, but can tell by the look in his eyes that's something he can't do...
"Mom, I love you I really do. But I cant leave someone I love in danger, If it comes down to it I will risk my life for the ones I love. I'm sorry I can't promise you this..." Onyx gets out of the tub and heads to his room
Dinner time is finally here, I thought someone would say something, anything but no.. The room is deadly silent, everyone not making eye contact just looking at their food. I looked at Master Chad to get some kind of verification, but he just shook his head no.
After the most awkward meal in my life, I retire to my bedroom. Why did I have to go and do something weird again, It's not my fault seriously... All I want to do is protect people, but it feels like I'm just hurting those close to me.
I need to clear my head, I start to gather my resolve for tomorrow training, If anything can help me it would be that. I will dedicate my entire being to training, I will become strong enough to protect everyone.
Whether they want me too or not, I will protect them, I will protect everyone Humans, Dwarves, Beast-kin, Elves... I'll even protect the Demons if I have too.
My eyes start getting heavy, and I slowly fade into a deep slumber.

Chad is staring at Onyx as he sleeps, the only thing he feels is pity for the boy. {Emily just came and told me he heard everything me and Thomas was talking about... These damn walls are too thin}
"It'll be okay Onyx, I will make you stronger then you have ever been, I promise as your Master" Chad clenches his fist tightly, and heads to bed
