Chapter 1 – Child Prodigy
My name is Onyx Quill, I was born 3 years ago in a new world named Gaia. I’m currently living on the Quill estate, in the Kingdom of Eldanesh. I’ve been spending this time growing up to learn of the world, my parents have no idea I sneak into the study to read. From what I’ve gathered we are at the center of the country, there is a thick forest encircling us and our neighboring Kingdoms. Rumors state there are powerful monsters that reside in those forests. Once you finally break through the forest, you will meet the Demon Empire. Which is described as a barren land, they were forced to move there after the great war with the humans.
"THOMAS!!!" Emily yelled frantically
"Yes dear? What’s going on?" Thomas clearly confused on whats going on
"Would you mind explaining to me, why our three-year-old has a sword?" Emily places both hands on her hips, showing that he better have one hell of a reason
"…Err, I can explain, please don’t be mad" You can see the amount of worry on Thomas's face
"How can I not be mad; you are not going to train our son to be some kind of adventurer. He will go to the Academy of Eldanesh and be a great scholar. Have a stable job and live a fulfilled life!" Emily claims proudly, as if theres no other outcome for Onyx's future
"What our son does is up to him, I won’t stop him from his dreams and goals" Thomas says firmly, almost scolding Emily for her previoud comment
"………" Both just silently stare at eachother
"Can you at least explain to me how this took place in the first place?"
"The kid has a knack for Swords, can you believe it he’s naught but three and can already wield a sword better then kids twice his age" Thomas clearly proud of his son
"No, I don’t believe it, that is just not possible for someone his age. If our son gets hurt so help me God, it will be your ass sleeping outside for a week"
"….. Understood dear, when I saw him reach for it... I just couldn’t tell him no, he looked full of determination and greed. I can already tell he will be a prodigy among prodigies. People will sing his name once he grows up!"
"They will sing his name, but it won’t be for being an adventurer. I can’t even begin to think about our son facing off against those disgusting monsters. I couldn’t forgive myself if something were to happen to him…." Emily said while holding back tears
"He will be okay, he’s only three there’s plenty of time for him to carve his own path. And we will be the ones to guide him to his goals. I will gladly sacrifice myself, before I ever let a hair on his head get hurt!!" Thomas puts his fist to his chest, showing that he swears to it
That was the argument I overheard from the kitchen; I was just outside in the garden attempting to swing this sword. Its very heavy!! Almost too heavy, but I can just get it off the ground to swing it. Although this may be only a short sword, with the strength of this child body of mine it might as well be a two-handed great sword.
Unfortunately for my mother, I already plan to be an adventurer when I’m old enough and strong enough to defend myself. And for that I must train, I was blessed with quite a good Unique ability that helps me level up my skills. So, I can’t afford to waste any time just sitting around in the house, from this day forward I’m going to dedicate myself to my craft and become a master swordsman. Just you wait world, I’m coming for you! Just not right now…. As I crash to the ground, It seems ive exhausted all my stamina. There are stats in this world, I didn’t know about this until recently. But if you say “Status” a box of text pops up displaying your name, race, age, and stats. Below that is your abilities, and then your skills.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
As you can see, I got pretty lucky with my unique ability, but I’m sure everyone gets a good one. Considering you only get one, and it’s given at birth. Right? I hoped for something more in line with combat, but I can’t deny that mine is also good. Legendary, I’m wondering what the highest rank would be... One thing is for sure, no one must see this. I don’t want them to think I’m some total cheat character, Although I don’t mind people fearing me. Fear the almighty Onyx!!
As I’m stuck in my internal monologue, some one sneaks up on me and takes away my sword! Totally not cool mom… How am I supposed to be the protagonist if I can’t train! I throw a tantrum, as my mom sees this, she just looks down on me with sad eyes. This is the moment she realized her son takes after her husband and is already on the path of an adventurer.
"Come now Onyx! Stop crying, I’ll give it back to you tomorrow. When I can watch over you, so you don’t get hurt..." -Emily said in a defeated tone
"*sniff* yes... mom..."
"Dinners ready, just give me some time to chop up your food okay. After all that swinging, you look exhausted."
{Poor little guy, the swords the same size as him. How in the world is he swinging this thing. *sigh*}
As my mom carries me to the dinner table, I can hear my brothers running in. They seem to be out of breath, I wonder what they are running from.
"I’m going to get you, you little shits!" Thomas is yelling at the top of his lungs
"Dad, spare us we didn’t mean too!" Ricky pleaded, you can see the fear in his eyes
"What’s going on honey?" Emily tilts her head, as shes confused on whats happening
"I was talking to their teacher, and these shits skipped school today" He replied, clearly still angry about the situation
"Come on dad, we all know this school doesn’t teach anything useful. I just need to run the estate; how hard can it really be?" Jake said with a snarky tone
"You don’t know the first thing about leading people, this isn’t a joke. People’s lives will depend on you, the least you can do is get an education." Thomas looked like he was in disbelief from what he just heard
"Then why not send me to the Academy, we have enough money for it. I’ll be thirteen in two years and I will be able to attend."
"That’s not a bad idea honey, we both know they will get a much better education at the academy than staying here. If they don’t want to apply themselves then Onyx can always take over as the heir!" Emily winks at Onyx
*Gulp* my brothers are staring daggers at me right now. I don’t want to run this estate; I can’t be trapped here my whole life. If I were to rule over people, I would have to be king. Anything else wouldn’t be worth the hassle to me.
"…. We will go back to school, just please rethink your decision on sending us to the academy. I want to learn things other then management and etiquette." Jake looking defeated
"Me too dad! I also want to attend the academy; I know I still have three years. But when it’s time for me to go, I will be there with Jake so everything will be okay!" Ricky yelled exitedly
"I will think about it, until then prove to me you are willing to learn. No more skipping school! Do you understand me!" Thomas put his head in his hands, thinking these kids will be the death of me
"Yes father" – Jake & Ricky both replied, hands on their chest as if swearing by it.
"As for now, I’m planning on looking into local swordsman tutors. I plan to get one for Onyx if he continues training, He will have to wait till the age of six before someone will train him." Thomas said randomly
"Absolutely not! I won’t allow it!!!" Emily cant believe he would even consider it
"Come on mom! He looks so cute holding a sword. I can stare at him for hours!" Sarah said while looking at Onyx with love struck eyes.
"Shut it you, by the time he gets a tutor you will be married and moved out" Emily replied giving Sarah the death stare.
"Dear, did you not see him earlier? He’s going to be one whether you prohibit it or not. Its in his blood, you can see it a mile away." Thomas boldly claimed
"……." Emily lost in thought
"Look on the bright side, if we get him a tutor someone will always be there with him as he trains. He’ll be safer than he is now. And with proper training, he will be able to defend himself be it a bandit, or a monster!:
"Okay we can get him a tutor when he is of age…." Emily with the look of defeat
"Food please!" Onyx yelled, while looking at the chicken dinner with greed.
*My family can’t help but laugh, such a serious conversation. And Onyx is just thinking about food*
It has been about a month now; I’ve been swinging this sword every day until I’m out of stamina. I lack the proper form as I can still barely lift this dang thing. Maybe my father will catch on and buy me a wooden sword my size, or maybe I just need to ask. As for my Progress, my Swordsmanship has gone up to E. I feel no difference in rank as I swing this sword, but according to the skill I do get a boost in power as well as technique as it ranks up. I may be too small to put it to full use, damnit… One day I promise I will be a master swordsman, and I’ll travel the world not letting anyone get in the way of my new life.
E: Swordsmanship – Boost in slash damage, increased muscle memory of sword skills.
-Multi slash: throw three swings in quick succession. If all land the third swing does 20% more damage.
When the skill was promoted to rank E, I unlocked Multi slash. This makes me believe that as skills level up, you also get more skills attached to them. This just further increases my resolve to master the sword. The only thing I can’t quite understand is why Speed reading hasn’t unlocked anything after ranking up. Albeit it’s obvious on what it does, and I’m not sure what cool abilities would even matter if I’m stuck holding a book.
D: Speed Reading – Ability to perceive words at a faster pace.
As useless as it sounds, it has helped me drastically while I study in the library. I want to know more of the world that I’ve been chosen to live in. And lacking the age to explore myself, I have been living it through books. Stories of hero’s saving the world, great wars, and geography books and maps so I can better understand my surroundings.
"Onyx are you there!?"Jake asked as he tapped my shoulder
"Yes brother?" Onyx replied confused, I did not hear him come behind me.
{I wonder what he wants, he never bothers me while I’m training}
"I wanted to know if you want to go into town with me. I need to pick up some herbs for dinner and could use an extra pair of hands."
"YES!!!" Onyx screamed excitedly
{Finally, I get to leave this house for the first time, my mom hasn’t let me leave since I’m a noble’s son. She’s scared I may get kidnapped for ransom or woman will try to marry me without my consent. Although the last one is justified, I mean look at me! I’m fucking beautiful, who wouldn’t want to be my wife!}
"Sweet, go have mom wash you up and then we can go. Can’t have you walking into town covered in sweat, stinking up the place"
"Okay…"
{ugh... bath time, the dread of my existence. Don’t get me wrong I love a good bath, if it was alone. But every time I’m forced to bathe with my mom or dad, as they fear I’ll drown in the tub…}
After my bath with mom, she dressed me up in a black silk shirt and dark blue pants. I don’t remember ever wearing clothes of this quality. But as a noble’s son I’m sure I must look the part, can’t have our people thinking we are poor. Now that I’m ready, its time to enter the city for the first time! Hopefully my big brother Jake will let me explore shops other than spice stalls.
