Day 11 Default 5
Back to the center of the school district, KillPrinsX, still dressed in a black ninja suit, sunglasses, and a glowing green magical staff, only wondered what’s next. There’s still 14K to spend on spells or items…
She played with the thought of getting more Elemental Magic, which would definitely be useful, but after her early game experience, she found that it’s not what skills you have, or how many, but how you use them, and when. And, being familiar with them.
Though, being Psychic, she still has to figure out how to use all of her Psychic skills, which she’s put off for too long already…
Maybe another item from GEM? The shopkeeper seemed to be hiding the fact that he’s got a secret market of legendary items.
There was the Mana Bar, where she could stock up on potions, but she already has plenty of blood potions, pre-poisoned with Neurotoxin, so she can fill up her reserve.
But she could always do with more…
Stocking up on 20 Large Mana potions, 2,000 gold less, she stood in the same spot.
The other options were the two schools that actually taught magic here, well not actually, as far as she had learned. Mage’s Basix and the Wizard University were the last places she would want to go. But even then, she had never been to the University.
Then she saw it. Something she was always wondering about stood innocently in the back of the courtyard. The MMA Gymnasium! It was that secret place you couldn’t get in until level 20… and now she was.
She was so excited that she ran over and threw the door open.
The friendly NPC at the reception greeted her, “Thank you for visiting the Mixed Magical Arts Gymnasium. How can I help you?”
At first, she didn’t even know what MMA stood for, and now that she found out, her head started spinning with all the possibilities. Mixing magics, like Elemental Magic, and making new spells? She had to ask.
“What is thhaaaat?” She said in a mystical voice.
“Well, it’s simple, you just mix spells and make new ones, for a price, or learn how to use different spells successively to create different effects. Obviously some are more compatible than others.”
She stood with her hands clenching the desk, eyes popping open, saliva drooling down. “How…? Where…?”
“Follow me this way,” the receptionist said, leading her back to the gym.
It was a large open space, segmented off for different players to test out their skills without disrupting the others. There were quite a number of players already there.
One had been sending out a stream of boiling water like she had seen in the tournament already.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Someone was throwing individual stones sizzling with electricity, one burning with fire, another trailing dark magic.
Another player was waving his hands in front of a fire, causing it to grow to the size of a truck, take off into the air and blow around in looping circles before finally hitting an invisible barrier.
She was amazed, none of these skills you could buy in the Elemental skills shops. This is skill, real wizardry. She’s found what she’s been looking for! This is something that will win her the tournament.
“Where do I start?” She asked, now with water in her eyes, and a pleading look that only a puppy could compete with.
“In the next room,” the receptionist said, giving her a strange look. “You’ll want to study a few of the basix before combining skills.” She led KillPrinsX off to another room that look very much like a classroom, and very similar to the one in Mage’s Basix.
KillPrinsX sat down, a teacher had given her a book and told her that she had better read up before asking to combine skills. “And no fast reading, this is something that you must actually know how to do to make a decision, it’s not just an Attribute enhancing book.”
But it was an attribute enhancing book…
Mixing Magical Arts 101
To mix Elemental skills one must know the basics of the Elements. For example: mixing Light and Dark may make some very pretty and showy spells, but would actually produce a nullified effect if used in battle. As well, if one were to try and mix Air and Earth magic in the wrong ratio, you might as well just blow on a rock yourself and for no cost of Mana.
The rules are simple, but, like a recipe, if not followed properly, will end you up with a dud spell, or even worse, backfiring upon the user. So learn it well.
The first thing to know is that Elements in spells work just like elements in life. As in the previous examples.
In an even ratio, Fire and Water create boiling water. When the Fire Element is stronger you would make steam, and when the Water Element is stronger you end up with a nice shower.
Any of these spells could be useful to a player, but if you want results with your spells, you will need to know what you will be creating.
The second aspect of MMA is the casting of successive Elemental spells in certain order to amplify the effect of one or both Elements, thus increasing their effect.
Specific examples of this is casting Lightning on top of water. Where if it is done simultaneously, the effect is negligible. The key being wether or not the Elements work together, or one element overwhelms the other’s nature.
Another example being Light and Dark magic; being cast at the same time creates a null effect, yet cast successively, alternatively causes Light and Dark damage and creates a confused effect.
Here the options are fewer, but thinking with combined effects, or a lack of them, might turn the tide in many battles.
…
The book went on and on. Giving details to nearly every Elemental combination, and lack of.
KillPrinsX secretly pushed the quick read button and got the prompt.
You have read the Mixed Magical Arts Combat Manual!
+25 Intelligence: Knowledge: Magic
Very rewarding!
Yet the book had still levitated and shone bright, words from the pages coalesced into bright white energy and flew into her face… but the teacher didn’t notice…
To hide the fact that she had just quick read the whole book, she went to take a look at the the School of Elemental Magic’s home page, zoning out while still looking at the book.
There were some updates on the scoreboards; who’s been the last to win the tournaments, highlights from battles.
Some players had posted newly unlocked skills and combos that no one has even seen before.
But what she was really interested in now was the tournaments, and when was the next big one… two days from now! And she hasn’t slept in a good day and a half, probably more… all that endurance training is paying off again.
She was surprised that she hadn’t got the sleep deprived notification yet. But then, just as she thought about it…
