Day 10 Default 5
Coming out of the caves, KillPrinsX was standing proud with her new item. Somewhere deep in the hillside, through all the bats, goblins, and other cave dwelling creatures, they had found the loot the Trolls were treasuring: a large fist sized globe of green pulsing energy.
When they first saw it, they had though it was merely a strangely placed light in the caves, but when Amelia had searched the cave, finding absolutely nothing but a strangely clean cave, she figured it must be something. It was hanging from the ceiling on a rope, acting as a light, most likely put there as some worshipped object for the Trolls. Getting it down was tricky, but a well timed jump and slash by Else had gotten it down nicely.
This green glowing globe was certainly an artifact. When analyzed, they found it to be the severed magical element of a magical staff. And now only needing to be repaired and enchanted.
At first they had argued who would get it. Amelia had spotted it first, Else had gotten it down, and KillPrinsX had caught it before it hit the ground.
But after a few minutes of, “It’s mine!”, “No, It’s mine!” They stopped to see who would be able to use it better. It’s properties were definitely magic. Amelia already had a good staff, but not as good as this one could be. Else actually wouldn’t be seen anywhere carrying a staff of green glowing energy, even if it was a different color, Scouts don’t have glowing staffs.
So the fight went considerably towards Princess’s favor. And after looking at it more closely, Amelia gave it up and decided that Princess could be the proud owner of The Essence of the Isle of Sharaz. But she would have to be the one to put it on a proper magic staff, or bribe someone to do it.
Once KillPrinsX put it in her inventory they left.
“Time to go,” Else said, squinting in the bright moonlight as they exited the caves. “Someone round up the boys. We have a Giant to kill.”
The five of them, and Charlotte, started walking west, towards the location of the Giant, the second quest for the day.
It didn’t take as long as expected, less than half an hour and they were on the lookout for this thing. It shouldn’t be hard to miss, probably fifty feet tall, either snoring loudly or smashing things as it trundles along.
Another few minutes of searching, they found it, sleeping against a tree.
Well, at least they could make a plan and didn’t have to go straight into battle. They retreated back before talking at all.
Bruno was the first to talk, “I say we hit it with some long range hits first, see what it’s made of before we get too close.”
“That sounds good,” Else said. “But how do we know it doesn’t have long range attacks too? We’ll have to take that into account.”
“Good point,” he replied.
Amelia spoke up, “I could always do some stun spells, so you can go in and attack, and when he wakes up I stun him again so you can get away. Then we’ll have some damage given.”
“But then we still don’t know what kind of Giant he is,” Tirade said, thinking with his back to a tree.
“It could even be a she,” said KillPrinsX.
“There’s no real markings to help us tell. It’s skin is dark, but that’s all the color I got. No skin pattern,” Else said. “We don’t even know what level it is. I mean it could be Level 5 or 50, but it’s probably a bit big to be just a Level 5.”
Bruno threw the twig he was fiddling with, “It’s too bad we don’t know what we’re even fighting. Giants aren’t creatures you just go around and play with. And there’s all sorts of them. We could just hope that it’s a Forest Giant, and if it’s not we’d be quite screwed.”
KillPrinsX piped up, “I could always Analyze it.”
“Analyze?” Else said. “You have the Analyze skill?”
“Yeah… I didn’t know if everyone has it. But you think it’s that useful?”
“Right here, and now, yeah,” Else said, trying not to raise her voice.
“Alright, let me just go up and Analyze it.” So she did, walking up a little too close. The Giant snorted and moved in it’s sleep. KillPrinsX stopped and figured she’d be in range. She used Analyze and went back before reading it.
“So?” Else said.
KillPrinsX read the prompt.
Eldorf - Level 20 - Sun Giant
A Sun Giant is not your normal type of Giant. They are said to be bred in the Sun and brought to Earth on a meteorite. The fact that they are away from their home does not make them any weaker. Sure, they may be overridden by a shiver or two, but their ability to harness their home’s power only make them that much more fearful. Be careful for their radiant blasts of light and fire, and their ability to make things burn just by looking at it.
“What the hell?!” Tirade whispered, still louder than he wished.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
The Giant turned in his sleep again.
“That explains why it’s a six star quest,” Else said. “Still, the description was to kill a foreign Giant, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad.
“I think we might as well just turn back and go home,” Tirade said.
Bruno nodded and gave a grunt in agreement.
“Come on,” KillPrinsX said, “it’ll be fun. At least we could wake him up and give it a try, if it gets bad we’ll just make a run for it.”
Else looked up at her from her crouch, “Easy for you to say. Your one and only biggest weakness is the Sun. Not to mention all of ours too.”
KillPrinsX looked down, “Sorry, I only thought… But actually, I could cast a mist. It worked yesterday morning. Even though I couldn’t see anything. But the sun was coming up and shining everywhere… Does anyone have sunglasses?”
The boys both spoke up, “Yeah, we do. But only for us.”
“So we have a plan. But I’ll be out of Mana after casting a mist five times in a row.”
Else still wasn’t onto it. But Bruno and Tirade started nodding in agreement. Amelia hadn’t said or done anything that put her anywhere. Charlotte only gave her blank stare that spiders do, but in silent agreement with leaving.
“So, what do you say? We’ve got half a plan. All I have to do is replenish my Mana and I’ll see what I can do. The mist will help you stay covered. As long as you move after a hit, he shouldn’t know where you are.”
“What about those radiant blasts of light and fire?” Else pointed out.
“Amelia could stun him often enough.”
Tirade and Bruno were starting to get into it. Amelia was alright with standing at a far distance and casting Stun. Even Else was seen to be nodding her head, thinking it over. Maybe it would work.
“Alright,” Else said, standing up, “if you want to, go ahead, I’ll standby and be ready for… just don’t get yourselves killed.”
“Yay!” They all whispered. See what a bit of planning and cooperations does. Loads of XP and a good fight, if they win.
The five of them, walked over to where the Giant lay. KillPrinsX got a few Mana potions from Amelia and went closer, casting Summon Mist a whole five times. The small part of the forest they were standing in was now absolutely impenetrable, the mist was so thick.
KillPrinsX downed the Mana potions and put 200 MP into her shield, just in case. She heard Amelia and Else do the same. She only hoped that Bruno and Tirade had similar skills.
She whispered out to the boys to come up and attack.
The sounds of their swords slashing the Sun Giant’s hide rang through the trees. Amelia cast Stun and they hit again. KillPrinsX cast Confuse a few times as well, getting the Giant as he stood up, who gave a thundering roar and fell back down.
The boys kept hitting, seeing their window was still open for another few seconds… until the Giant stood up again.
Then all hell broke loose. In a normal Human’s eyes it would have been a marvelous blast of red fire exploding outwards from the Giant…
All the Vampires saw was a blinding light. The dwindling screams of two swordsmen as Sun Fire scorched their bodies.
Another couple of thuds, the Giant hitting the ground, stomping and going mad, roaring with anger.
In the mist they still couldn’t see anything.
“Run!” Else yelled at the top of her lungs.
KillPrinsX put all she had into sprinting out of there, Rush giving her that much more speed. She only stopped when she saw Else, with a violent sneer, looking back through the trees at the blinding lights now half a mile away, fortunately Charlotte had made it out alive and was on her heels.
“That was a close one.” KillPrinsX said to Charlotte as they kept running.
“Yeah, fortunately I jumped out of the trees as soon as I could and only got singed.”
They had caught up with Else. She looked pissed, as she should be, and started punching a tree.
“You mother fucker! You just got our best and only swordsmen killed! We don’t even have a party of five anymore. Two killed. That’s three. And your spider isn’t a team member. It’s a pet!” She was writhing, grabbing her head, thrashing, stomping, putting the Giant to shame. “I’m going to fucking kill you!”
At this point she commenced with what she promised, sending a shower of summoned daggers speeding her way.
KillPrinsX easily stepped aside, but still got hit by one in the arm.
“It’s all your fault! You got half our team killed!” Else screamed.
“Yeah, but you were the one who brought us on this quest!” KillPrinsX screamed back. She dodged again as a sizzling ball of energy flew by her head.
“I was the one who said we wouldn’t actually fight something that’s going to kill us.”
KillPrinsX didn’t know what to say to that, but she kept backing up, keeping her distance from Else.
Another round of daggers hit the tree she had just stepped behind.
She turned and Else was standing right beside her.
“I’m going to kill you,” she growled, now grabbing KillPrinsX by the shoulders, “and find you again,” Else now grabbed her by the neck and reached for a dagger, “and kill you until this game is over!”
KillPrinsX was stunned, she was literally going to die. All that training and questing, getting up to Level 26, it wasn’t any small feat. And now she was going to die in the hands of someone who now absolutely hated her.
In that split second of waiting for her life to end Else drew her dagger and laid it across little Princess’s neck.
“The best part about this game is,” Else said, pressing the dagger into her skin, “that now matter what magic or skill you have, a cut throat is still a death…”
KillPrinsX stared into her eyes, realizing that if she doesn’t do something fast, she will actually be defaulted. But she still has time…She cast Phoenix Skin on herself.
The cut on her neck had only just started to bleed.
Else jumped back, shaking her hands. “You bitch!”
KillPrinsX didn’t waste any time saving her own life. Fireball!
Else was blown back by it’s force, shot from hardly a foot away.
KillPrinsX pulled out a dagger and coated it with Neurotoxin, stabbing Else’s leg.
Else was knocked out, suffering from quite a concussion and adverse affects from the whole fire and Vampires thing, coupled with paralysis while raging. KillPrinsX knew what Else would have said, if only she had stayed conscious.
She ran, hoping Else was seriously put down for a while. She couldn’t run faster than Else, she knew that. But only for a while, now that her leg is paralyzed.
She ran back to the Sun Giant, for god knows why, but she quickly saw that all the trees were on fire and Tirade and Bruno lay smoldering, face down in the dirt. The Giant was gone, probably at the other end of that trail of burning trees.
She looted Bruno and Tirade, hoping to get something out of it, besides a feeling of regret.
You have looted:
2 pairs of sunglasses
15 steel daggers
1 Short sword of Bleeding
1 Vial of the Blood of the First
2 Vials of Unicorn Blood
7 Vials of Troll Blood
15 Stamina Potions
12 Health Potions
3 Health Packs
1 Helm of Godiron
23,756 Gold
That was anything that might have been useful for her. The sunglasses were obviously for keepsake purposes, something to remember them by.
She put the helmet on, placed the short sword on her waist, nodded to Charlotte and walked away from her lost battle and friends.
She started thinking of were to go. She has to find shelter soon, but other than that… where to go?
She looked at her map to see if any caves were nearby. The only ones shown were the Trolls caves. She went there, hoping to find it safe.
