The next stop was The Generator, the school for Electric Magic.
The place was humming so loudly that she could hardly hear herself think. But as soon as she stepped inside, the noise quieted.
She looked around, there were all sorts of equipment, just like the other places, but with everything being electric, she found protective gloves and suits, wire cutters, and a whole lot of stuff that was a bit questionable to actual game play.
She headed straight to the board and checked out the skills.
Attack: Sends lightning bolts, Tiers 1-5.
Attack: Sends charged balls of Electricity, Tiers 1-5.
Attack: Sends beams of Electricity, Tiers 1-5.
Defense: Summons an external shield of Electricity to block attacks, Tiers 1-5
Shield: Summons a Mana Shield of the Electricity Element.
Summoning: Summons a creature of Electricity, Tiers 1-5.
Manipulation: Allows one to manipulate the existing Electricity in the environment, Tiers 1-5.
They all look pretty cool. Tons of different types of attacks; a good defense that would probably kill anything that comes close, whether alive or solid; Electric creatures are always handy; and who wouldn’t want to be able to make electricity move around as they wished?
She bought all of them.
Lightning Bolt (tier 5)
Ball Lightning (tier 5)
Electric Blast (tier 5)
Electric Defense (tier 5)
Electric Shield (tier 5)
Electric Specter (tier 5)
Electric Manipulation (tier 5)
All the details were more or less the same as the other Elements. And the cost was only 3,100 gold! That’s nothing, only 14k to go! She’ll have to find something to spend it on, hopefully all at one place…
And now she has to go and play with her new toys.
“Do you have a place to go and practice?” she asked the NPC at the counter.
She nodded to the door to the side, “Have fun!” The NPC said with a very hearty smile.
Outside, the noise hit her like a wave. It was really hard to concentrate. But looking around, there were tons of electrical generators with pathways between them, and behind that, a wide-open dirt field to play in. It looked like there was grass, but had been sizzled away long ago.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
She headed towards the field, staying clear of another party’s fight, and stood out in the open, a little less loud, but plenty of space to practice.
She first cast a Mana Capsule, and then tried out the basic attacks, all tier 5.
Lightning Bolt she cast just ten feet away from her… Sshhhssssss-BANG!
She was thrown onto her back! The sound was worse than anything she’s experienced before. A deaf icon appeared, and sure enough, all the background hum of generators vanished as well. Other than that, the effect was amazing! The Lightning Bolt had come from nowhere in a flash of white and utterly devastated the earth, sending dirt all over, and making a crater that nearly reached right where she stood.
Carefully, she got ready for the next one, Ball Lightning. She had the smarts to send it it farther off. Fifty feet away a ball of electricity built up and was hovering a few feet off the ground, the size of a human being. If she thought about it, she could make the ball go in some direction, but only once, and it slowly hovered away into the distance.
That’ll be something to try on a CPU, seeing if it would actually snap-to and electrocute them.
She tested out the next, Electric Blast taking her stance, holding her staff close and aiming off in the distance.
Electricity started crackling at the end of her staff, building up in a big ball, she shot it after only a second and watched it shoot off like a bullet. It hit the fence quickly and shook in a frenzy of static before dissipating… Electric Blast!
She was already running low on Mana, but still had some left to summon the Electric Specter, though having to wait a moment.
The Specter materialized like a sparking ghost with short claw-ended arms.
Perfect, now she just needs a few CPUs to fight.
As soon as she had thought it, a couple of engineers started yelling at her, telling her to back off and get away from government property.
She backed off for a second, refilling her Mana from the capsule, casting Electric Defense, and then Ball Lightning.
The Lightning instantly snapped to one of the engineers. He fell over, but was still able to put a hand up and get on his feet. She could here him mutter something about thankfully wearing a rubber suit.
She then sent the Specter over to them, seeing what might happen. She was still far enough away to be safe from any physical attacks, but you never know.
The Specter zipped over and started strangling one of the engineers. He shook violently, obviously taking electrical damage. After a few seconds, that one was down. The other had brandished a rubber-gripped spanner and tried attacking the Specter.
Together, they put up a good fight, one brandishing his wrench, while the other slashed. But the Specter won in the end, giving enough physical and Elemental damage, no matter how well rubberized he was.
She needed another enemy that would actually give her a good fight. None came immediately, so she ventured into the generator area.
Here she had found what she was looking for, similar to her Electric Specter, live electrical creatures jumped around and on top of the generators, occasionally scurrying across the ground. She put up her Electric Shield and summoned Electric Defense.
Now time to rack up the kills!
She waited to get attacked, seeing what would happen when a spark flew at her. All that happened was the spark flew into her defense and made it bigger. She followed up with a few short Electric Blasts from her staff, snuffing out the smaller creatures, but only knocking over the bigger ones.
She had fun with that until she had actually sent a high powered Lightning Bolt into one of the generators and made it blow up with a earsplitting mechanical crunch, belts whining in high C… smoke billowed out in a matter of seconds.
Luckily, help came immediately. Ten angry Engineers came to find out what happened.
Now this is going to be fun!
She ran around the maze of generators, casting whatever Electric spell came to mind.
She got some of them after a few repeated attacks. And then it came to her…
She cast Water onto the floor and waited for an engineer to follow her around a corner. Then she cast a small Ball Lightning right where he was standing… in the middle of the puddle of water. The engineer jolted up, spun and hit the ground, continually shaking from the residual energy.
She did a few more like that, but instead, sending a Water Blast to a few unsuspecting engineers and then casting Lightning Bolt. She managed to get three in one!
A few more engineers came around, but there were hardly more than two at a time.
She got bored after a while, having learned what she needed to, and having practiced enough, some of her skills getting up to rank 3. She was feeling it already, Mana higher, attacks stronger. She’s going to using these on the battlefield.
