Chapter 30

They knew who Sipher was.

I watched five more demihumans walk out of the hole.

The Rhastan was wrapped in black cloth and holding a pair of daggers with glowing green blades. HIs tail had been cut off and the part that was sticking out of the back of his pants was only about two feet long.

The Grim was wearing white leather that was the same color as her exoskeleton. There were bone blades sticking off of her arms. That was something some of the Grim could do. There was a length of bone in their exoskeleton that they could fold out that was as sharp as any sword. The red orbs in her skeletal face focused on me.

The tan furred Anubis had a scar over her right eye. She wore fingerless gloves that had rings attached where the fingers had been cut off. She was wearing a blue tunic with gold trim and began twisting her hands to cast a spell.

The red-furred Kitsune had on green scrubs. Each of her five bushy tails was twitching with a globe of green light on the tip of each one. She was staying near the middle of the group.

The last one had the face of a monkey and blue-fur. The Raijin had a long flute in his hand that he was twirling. He was dressed in light green leather with gold trim. His tail picked up a rock the size of a melon and threw it back through the hole.

“Back away from the criminal.” The Minotaur took a step forward, shaking the ground as he slammed his foot down.

The snipers in the tower started firing arrows and magical bullets, but the projectiles bounced off of the mostly transparent orange barrier that appeared in front of the bull-man.

“We can kill these ones?” Sipher held out his hand and a golden blade manifested in it.

He could summon a weapon.

That was probably a skill I needed to look into acquiring if I was going to be going on more of these types of missions. Right now, I needed to work with what I had. I touched my stolen CB. with Shadowstep I could probably get behind one of them and stun them.

Gall touched my arm. “That’s Draloc Moonshine.”

Draloc was one of the Tier Six Adventurers. And if that was Draloc, then this was the rest of his Adventuring team. I’d never seen them in person, just on the screen as I watched the Adventurer Games that were held at the end of each year. They hadn’t gotten to compete last year because Drlaoc had hit level sixty. I knew the others had been close and even though they could have subbed in a different Tank, they didn’t compete so that they could try to push all of their team into Tier Six.

We weren’t going to win this fight. If two of us were Tier Five, then we might have been able to stall one of them. With all six of them, we didn’t stand a chance.

Draloc motioned at Sipher and chains appeared around the fake guard and wrapped around him, pinning his arms tightly to his side and dispelling the sword. The bandit fell over and Draloc picked him up. Gall guided Nyssa and myself out from between the group and the wall.

“You’re too smart to be a guard.” Draloc looked at Gall. “Find me after this and say his name.” The Minotaur bounced Sipher on his shoulder. ‘I could use a man like you.”

Before we could say anything the group ran at the wall. Shazi Fen, the Anubis, released the spell that she’d been preparing and the debris from the building rose up above her, then shot into the towers and wall, throwing gravel all over the place.

The three of us moved even further out of the way to keep from getting hit by a projectile. The wall was really starting to crack when a black bolt of lightning slammed into the ground in the middle of the six of them. Before my ears started ringing and all the sounds were muffled, I heard the sound of breaking glass.

As the dust cleared, I saw a golden man with black hair and red eyes wearing a black suit with a red cape floating in the air above us. I rubbed the dust off of the vizor and knew that wasn’t a man.

Kire was here.
