It was a bad idea.
Sipher wasn’t the worst criminal out there. He didn’t even make the top ten of the most wanted criminals in the world at the moment, but he was a name that was recognizable. He would be under some of the best security that whoever had him could manage. Which meant Tier Five materials unless a God was holding him in their palace, then we had no chance at all of breaking him out.
“You’re going to break him out?” The matriarch’s voice squeaked so high as she laughed that I winced. “Before his execution?”
I pulled my arm away from Nyssa and moved so that she could lean on my back as I opened up my CB’s menu and went to the Jinsu Newspage. If something this big was happening, I knew that the Jinsu would have something to say about it.
I was able to find an article that said that Sipher had been captured earlier this morning in the godless town of Frota by some mercenaries and had been transported to…
Despite the warmth on my back where Nyssa was leaning on me to read over my shoulder, it felt like ice had started running down my spine.
Sipher was in Kire.
There were a lot of places that were dangerous in the world. There was a secret group known as the Primus who went around hunting the children of Gods that weren’t staying inside their parents' cities. They also Desolated Gods who had too many public children, with the exception of Nevah. That Ivory God regularly publicly declared that it was his life’s mission to have a child with every Goddess. For some reason, the Primus left him and his public children alone. Only some of the Gods and their closest personal Gods knew about the Primus and even fewer knew who was a part of it. There was only one God that I knew was part of the Primus and that was Kire.

It would be dangerous enough for the three of us to go into a city because if we got too close to its God, they’d be able to sense us. If we were just passing through, then we might be able to play it off as just traveling and not planning on staying longer than it would take to go through all the formalities of declaring ourselves. Breaking a criminal out would be seen as an act of war for Tres and Tizon and anyone could join in on their Desolation without fear of justifiable retaliation from their allies.
“We can’t do…” My voice was silenced by a look from Gall.
“It’s impossible.” The matriarch laughed, assaulting my ears with what sounded like two pieces of metal scraping against each other.
“You came here because he offered to share this secret with you.” Gall started walking towards me. “If he dies, then his secret dies with him.” He nodded at Garlin. “Get ready.”
“You’re serious?” I felt Nyssa push off my back to stand up.
The golden man turned to the Matriarch. “We could use your aid.”
The humor vanished from the matriarch’s mousey face as she thought about what Gall was proposing.
“You can have Lair.” She nodded at the other female before turning to Gall. “I’m staying in my new bunker for a while.”
What she meant was that she was going to be fortifying it. I had no doubt that by the time we got back this place would be full of Rhastan.
The thought made me shudder. I looked at Gall, but could see the resolve in his face. Sipher being executed was part of the plan, but I could tell that Gall wanted to know who was working with Sipher, if the bandit had a map of unreported Dungeon Tunnels, and how credible the rumor of the secret of immortality was. Honestly, for me, Sipher being executed was a failure on my part, though I wondered if Kire had already taken the information from Sipher. My heart jumped into my throat as I thought about the member of the Primus being unkillable.
As much as I didn’t like it, we were going to have to rescue the bandit.
I nodded at Gall. “What do you need me to do?”
