We were back on the road as soon as the sun came up.
Truve didn’t see us off, which was fine by me. I found the almost obsessive devotion to be unnerving, though from what I knew about Kire, the violent God had a way of nurturing that in his followers. The priest on duty looked like a younger bull Minotaur, judging by the size of their horns. They were watching something on their CB and only looked up long enough to nod at us as we walked outside.
Gall threw the keyfob to the Chaser to me as we walked through the parking lot and got on the cycle I’d been using. I almost offered them to Nysaa, but while she looked like she’d mostly recovered, she was also not paying attention to us as she climbed in the passenger’s side of the Chaser.
“Nyssa. You feeling okay?” I started the Chaser and followed Gall, while Lair and Garlin followed behind me.
“Just trying to get in touch with our contacts in Kire.” The golden woman looked at me, then did a double take as she realized that I was driving. “You’re…” She nodded. “Make sense.”
“Dad has someone he wants to talk to while we go meet our contact.” She glanced behind her. “He was going to take those two with him, so it makes sense that he’d stick you with me now.”
“Gotcha.”
The guard waved us through. It was an eight hour drive, though I had a feeling we’d make it to Kire in under seven.
“No one has said anything about a plan other than we’re going to break Sipher out of prison.” I glanced at the redhead. “We’ve just been taking it for granted that your father has one?”
“That’s what I’m working out right now.” She was typing on her CB. “There have already been four attempts to break Sipher out of the prison as well as numerous requests from…” Her voice trailed off as she read the list to herself. “A lot of other Gods and Nobles.”

“How close have they gotten?”
“No one has been able to reach Sipher yet, but the entire city and prison is on high alert.” She shook her head. “It might be difficult to get us in.”
She started looking at a different menu. “Looks like Lair is a Healer, so we could pass as traveling farmers, which should get us in the gate.” She looked up at me. “But they’re turning away lots of people and our contact can’t help us get into the city.”
“Can you tell me what the plan is?”
At first I thought she wasn’t, but after eyeing me she looked back at her CB. “We have a contact in Kire’s inner circle. I’m going to take her credentials and use those to get into the prison. Once inside, I’ll be able to get Sipher out of his cell and moved to an interrogation room. Once we’re there, the contact dad is meeting with will hack into the prison and cover us while we get Sipher out.” She pointed at something on her CB, which I assumed was a map, but couldn’t see from the angle she was holding her wrist. “We should be able to get out of there and we’ll be gone before they realize that he’s missing.”
“And you think with as many attempts to break him out as there have been, the prison isn’t going to be checking on him regularly?”
“She’s already been in there twice to talk to him, so we shouldn’t have a problem.” Nyssa looked over at me. “She even took two guards that you and dad can pose as the last time and she’s going to go back again before we get to Kire.”
“Why are you so sure that you’ll be able to pull this off?” Mantles made it a little difficult to keep a false identity unless you knew someone who could directly alter the information that was stored in them. I started thinking about everything that we’d need and it started with the power of a God.
“Because she’s my twin.”
Most of my arguments vanished. A twin, specifically an identical twin, could pass as the other provided they kept their stats and skills roughly the same and she had her twin’s CB. Given that Kire had Desolated Tres’ sister and Tizon’s daughter, it made sense that Tizon would have someone getting close to the violent God. I was starting to feel better about the plan.
