Chapter 14-Connection

Chapter 14-Connection

After speaking with Sharron for a while, Urvashi came to the conclusion that the best course of action would be to bring her to his place.

It wasn’t his ideal solution, but Sharron insisted, and eventually, he agreed. If he just dropped her off at the hospital and left, there was a strong chance she'd end up with a gift or two, the gift of course being a bullet. At least this way, he could keep an eye on her—though, thankfully, it was only going to be for a couple of days at most.

Having a woman stay over at his place felt strange to Urvashi, especially one as beautiful as Sharron. She was just over 170 cm tall, which made her seem small next to his 185 cm frame.

If, and that’s a big if, she didn’t talk so much, how bad could it be? He could have her sleep on the couch or lock her in a room until she was strong enough to fend for herself, but something about that didn’t sit right with him.

One thing Urvashi wasn't looking forward to was having to explain to Taele why Sharron was at his place. And, even worse, why she had a gunshot wound.

What really bothered him, though, was how much time he’d end up spending at home. The last thing he wanted was to spend a lot of time home while Sharron was there.

If word got out that she was at his place, and someone came after her, he would need to be around to protect her.

But he felt reluctant to leave her in her time of need, even if it was caused by her alone, it just didn't sit right with him.

It was unlikely that anyone would find out, as long as they were careful. He thought about asking Mr. Alodia to take her in, but he didn’t want to bother him with his mess. So, he planned to bring her into his apartment in the early hours when everyone was asleep.

If word spread that he came home with a woman who looked like Sharron, it would get out of hand fast—especially if Viano, the one she’d pissed off, caught wind of it. He’d send his goons to check on Urvashi, no doubt.

One more thing gnawed at his mind, should he meet with Taele tonight? After all, he had gained nothing from today’s little mission. But if he suddenly disappeared, it could raise questions.

'Of course this had to happen to me.'

'I can’t ask her about those murders, can I? No, they’re classified.'

'Why did I even think about it? Why would she know anything?'

After thinking it over for a while, he came up with a plan.

He would meet up with Taele and explain that something had come up, but he would still try to help as much as possible with the case.

He’d also tell him that instead of meeting at his place every day, he would reach out if he found anything important.

And despite his reluctance to spend too much time alone with Sharron—or rather, because it made him uncomfortable—he would do his best to stay inside the house as much as he could.

He still had a few hours before 20:00, so he decided to practice boosting his output.

He hadn’t found a new relic, but he did have the Sealscript Journal.

Distancing himself from Sharron, he pulled out the black notebook and began channeling spirituality into it, using the energy to unlock the Fool’s Gambit from its seal.

He then took out the small card, depicting a clown with a golden sword for an arm, and began fiddling with it.

He slipped the card back into the page, then pulled it out again, repeating the motion several times. Finally, he stopped putting it back and focused on pouring spirituality into it. The clown transformed into a spear with a shining tip.

After switching between states a couple more times, he was about to return the card to its seal when Sharron suddenly appeared.

"What are you doing?" Her voice carrying a hint of suspicion.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

"What does it look like I'm doing?"

"It looked like you pulled that card out of the page, multiple times even." She said with smug expression.

'You damn idiot! You just had to practice right now.'

While thinking of what to say she continued.

"You're a Rankbearer aren't you?"

'Wh-? She knows about Rankbearers?'

'Come to think of it how didn't I notice her while she was approaching me?'

"You don't have to worry." She continued yet again.

And then said with reluctance.

"I'm one too."

'She is?'

'I guess that would explain how she managed to avoid a mob who's out to kill her.'

'Should I lie and tell her she imagined it? No...she already revealed her secret.'

"Not quite." Urvashi said with obvious regret.

"What do you mean not quite?"

Urvashi sighed.

"I haven't formed my 5th Rank abilities yet, I only stimulated the spirituality within my body."

She smiled with undisguised arrogance.

"Well what do you know I'm already at 4th Rank. So that means you're weaker than me." Sharron said with a smug expression.

I scoffed.

"Oh yeah? I remember having to take care of you because I defeated you."

She fell quiet.

After a while she spoke again.

"What were you doing just now? I doubt you did it because you were bored."

"Yeah, just boosting my output."

"Hmm, it'll take you a while with that little thing."

"Do you have anything better?" I asked my voice carrying a hint of hope.

"Why would I?"

'Why would she?'

"Didn't you just boast about being stronger than me?"

"Yes? That still stands. I didn't use relics to enhance my output, matter of fact it's my first time seeing one so close."

"Oh? And how did you?"

"It's a special trait of my aspect."

"...Alright, what is your aspect."

"And why should I tell you?"

"I'm just kidding! It allows me to make connections with things. And my output is unusually large."

"Make connections?"

After thinking for a while she took out a coin and said.

"For example I made a connection with this coin and no matter what I'll be able to feel where it is."

"That's quite useful."

She smiled

"Yes, it is."

"Is that the 5th Rank ability?"

"Yes. My 4th Rank one allows me to give items I make a connection with have a simple task, for example inform me if they 'see' anyone walk past."

'Ah so that's why she knew I was coming.'

"That's nice, really nice. It makes it really hard to sneak up on you if you place your items at good places."

"Yes, I'm really amazing praise me more. Even though you don't have 5th Rank abilities I'll allow you."

'This arrogant girl. If she knew about Termian how would she react.'

After talking for a while I went to inform Taele of what happened.

Not the whole truth but the fact that i won't be able too meet at my place every night.

We could meet but i likely wouldn't have any news for him.

While i'm meeting up with Taele Sharron would stay in the forrest outside the city, if all goes to plan we would only be apart for one and a half hour.

I would take a private carriage from the point in city quite a distance away from the forest to my apartment, it might be paranoid but if Viano's people are investigating this part of city it would just cause problems.
