Arc 1 - 44 - Planning A Date

Arc 1 - 44 - Planning A Date

On his way out of the girls dorm, Kyle saw Florianne and Jocelyn walking up the stairs. Kyle's total time in abiit form was less than 30 minutes, so he would be able to tail them without worrying too much. He had to tail them because of what he heard Jocelyn say.

"So how is it going with Kyle?" Jocelyn was leading the way as the two of them starting going up the first flight of stairs, so Kyle followed a little to the side and could see both of them.

"I made sure I was the first one he saw when he woke up, but I don't know if it worked." Florianne was feeling a little down because even after doing what Jocelyn told her to, Kyle didn't treat her better than the lazy kid in her Ethics class.

"We can move seats a little and have him sit next to you in Ethics, but Healing will be all on you." Jocelyn was scheming.

"Healing is fine, but Alban is acting up. Can you get Micky to deal with him?" Kyle remembered Alban. He was the only other boy in the healing class. Alban and Florianne had a thing once, and it lasted up until about a month ago.

"Yeah, I just have to ask and Micky will teach that Alban a lesson."

'Jocelyn, you're a bitch!' Kyle was surprised at what Jocelyn was saying. He had not expected her to be like this, especially when he thought about how she acted around Micky in public.

"Okay, thanks Jocelyn." Florianne was relieved that her friend could help her.

"But you have to go a little quicker than planned." Jocelyn stopped Florianne on the 2nd flight of stairs. They were almost to the top, and Kyle had to stop too. He had been using abiit form and hidden-dragon style to move silently and invisibly.

"That Beth girl from Ethics... she knows Kyle better than just being from the same town." Jocelyn was right about this, even if she did not know it. She was planning something for Florianne to do, but it would have to be done before Beth got the chance to act.

"I know, she got up right away when she heard about him getting better." Florianne could remember the announcement in Ethics about how the student Kyle Mercer might be coming in later because he got better from his sickness. Even though Kyle was in an unconscious state, and [Cure] did nothing to help, the professor still called it a sickness.

"That's why you have to do it tomorrow." The three of them stood still on the steps, so that even if Kyle wanted to leave he would have a hard time not being noticed in some small way.

"Do what?" Florianne wondered what she had to do tomorrow.

"You have to take Kyle on a date." It was something Jocelyn heard from her family, and apparently it was the ultimate weapon any girl could use.

'Lalalalala, this is all going to be a surprise for tomorrow!' Kyle went down the stairs as quickly as he could so that he would not have to hear anymore. Jocelyn was scheming on behalf of Florianne, and he knew whatever she said next was going to make him burst into laughter. Kyle knew the first draft of a plan is always the worst and most cringe worthy.

Kyle exited the girls dorm and went behind one of the buildings before going out of abiit form. He was in it for less than 1.5 hours, so he could probably do it for another 30 minutes today. The walk to the boys dorm was uneventful. It wasn't like he would be attacked by monsters in a city, or kidnapped by thugs inside a school for kids aged 8 to 14.

Even if he was, after the second kidnapping, which unlike the first, Kyle did not want to happen, Kyle was always on guard. He might not be using his post powerful techniques or skills or spells, but he was prepared to use something. It was a strange mentality, to prepare to use a chant-less spell and not quickly draw a sword like he had done his entire previous life.

Kyle got something to eat for dinner at the cafeteria, but did not see anyone he knew. Florianne and Jocelyn must had just been coming back from there.

Kyle then went to room 72 and saw exactly what he should have expected. Tyler had pushed Kyle's bed far to the side of the room and the room was filled with paper. The paper had many drawings on them and diagrams of magic. Tyler was a huge nerd.

"Who are you?" Tyler asked when he saw Kyle enter the room, pushing up his glasses at the same time.

"I'm Kyle. I live here too." Kyle entered the room and opened a drawer in his dresser. It was already filled with clothes.

"Oh yeah, roommate. Those are my clothes." Tyler went back to organizing his clothes, and Kyle picked the clothes up from inside the drawer.

"Well then, they should be in your dresser right?" Kyle placed Tyler's clothes on the top of Tyler's dresser which had several sheets of paper on it. Tyler pushed his glasses up.

"I thought you quit, so I took the other dresser to put my extra clothes in." Tyler picked up the clothes Kyle placed on his dresser and he smoothed them out on his bed. Kyle had not done a good job placing them on top the dresser.

"You can have your stuff in here tonight, but when I get back tomorrow I want them out." Kyle remembered how he didn't like Tyler, and how Tyler was a jerk.

"Hey, you can't just come in here and demand things from me!" Tyler was upset too, so upset even that he pushed up his glasses with two fingers instead of one.

"This is my bed you pushed up against the wall, and these are my drawers. I won't tell you to empty your own drawers, not that you have anything in them." Kyle tried to insult Tyler, but it was lost on him.

"I have clothes in all my drawers." Tyler opened a drawer in his dresser and put the clothes he just smoothed out into it.

'Damn this guy much has sensitive skin. He must have at least 10 pairs of clothes.' Kyle did not have many pairs of cloths, the grand total being 1. He would need to get money from Elena, or earn some himself. Which reminded him, he needed to write to Claire.

"I'm going to sleep. It would be in your best interest to wake me up tomorrow if it looks like I will sleep in." Kyle took off his clothes and folded them, then placed them into the drawer he cleared. Kyle hung the blue robe on a peg in the wall.

The bed did not feel as comfortable as the one in the medical ward, and Kyle thought about what to write to Claire before he went to sleep. He would have to get the letter writing materials soon.

POV: Kyle Mercer's Letter From A Few Days Later

Hi Claire. It feels like it has been a long time since I wrote to you. Everything is fine in the mage school, and all my classes are going well. It turns out that I am something called full-type, but don't tell Kathy.

I spoke to Beth again (The girl who came with me to your house that you didn't like very much) and she has forgiven me for what happened.

I still have the red string, and I wear it every day. Some other students have come up to me and asked "Wow, that sure is a cool string." and then I tell them "Yep, my friend Claire gave it to me." and then they get jealous that I have such a good friend.

Please write back soon.

Sincerely, Kyle.

----------------------------------------

Kyle was woken up by Tyler the next day, and he realized that he did not know where Ethics was. Tyler left to get breakfast, and Kyle wondered if he should wait at the entrance of the dorm for Micky or go to the cafeteria and try to find someone. It was of no consequence though, because Micky knocked on his door after not too long.

"Hey you up?" Micky said from behind the door. It was closed, but not locked. Tyler left it unlocked after leaving, but it was locked at night.

"Yeah i'm up. Getting something to eat?" Kyle asked as he walked to the door. Kyle already had his robe on over his clothes, and the red string hidden underneath it all. As Kyle opened the door, Micky started to talk.

"Yeah I meet Jocelyn and Florianne every morning for breakfast. Let's go." Micky lead the way and Kyle followed. A few minutes later, the 2 of them were in the cafeteria.

It was a little less busy in the morning than at lunch, but about the same for diner. Kyle guessed that people ate diner at all different times and some people didn't eat breakfast.

The system for getting meals was simple. Get in line and get a meal. Boom, that's it. Only one meal could be gotten at a time, but it was almost all-you-can-eat. Kyle and Micky waited in line for a few minutes and got their food while Kyle looked around, and Micky made faces at Jocelyn from across the room.

Kyle did not see Beth.

"Good morning Florianne." Kyle said as he sat down. He knew Florianne was going to do something today, and it would be quite the show when she did.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Good morning Kyle!" Florianne said in a more cheerful voice than normal. She had a large, out of place smile for a morning greeting, and Jocelyn was giving her a look as if saying "Keep going!"

"Hey Micky, can you help me with someone?" Jocelyn linked arms with Micky and asked him in a cute voice.

"Ohohoho, you manipulating bitch,' Kyle knew her ploy. Jocelyn wanted to get Florianne and Kyle alone so Florianne could do what she needed to.

"Hey, Jocelyn. I just got my food, let me eat it." Micky dug his fork into his meal and brought it up to his mount. He waited till he finished talking to put it in though. He was a bully, but he had manners.

"Micky I really need something handled." Jocelyn tugged his arm. Her plan was falling apart.

"And I really need this food handled. I will help you out later." Micky eat some more food. Kyle too was eating, and both Jocelyn and Florianne had barely touched their food.

"Are you going to eat Florianne?" Kyle asked as he looked at what she had. It was nothing special, but it was better than soup.

"Yeah I am." Florianne was disappointed that Jocelyn was not able to get Micky away from the table, and she had not planned for how to get Kyle to leave with her. Step one, eat breakfast with Kyle, was a success. Step two did not go so well.

The four of them finished breakfast and then went to Ethics. The class size was larger than any other of Kyle's, and it was because they did not have to practice magic in this class. A certain space was needed to cast spells, but not so much to just write stuff and listen.

"It looks like I will need to do an introduction for the new student." The professor stood at the front of the classroom and spoke to the room of 30 some kids.

"I am professor Springsteen. I teach Ethics, Wand Characteristics, and Group Tactics at the mage school. In this class, we go over hypothetical situations and what to do in them. "

Kyle was sitting near the middle of the room. Micky Jocelyn and Florianne were all sat in the row behind him, and up front near the window was Beth. It was quite the coincidence they all got in the same class.

"Care to introduce yourself Kyle?" The professor looked at Kyle, and so Kyle stood up.

"I'm Kyle Mercer, and I'm not dead." Kyle stood up before he spoke, and sat down when he finished. He did not get any replies

'Damn, I was trying to be funny.' The class was silent for a few moments.

"Well then, let's get to the next scenario. Say there is a fire burning-" The Springsteen went on for a while about a building burning and a mage stopping the fire. The mage ended up hurting someone with their ice magic though, so the question was who's fault was it?

Kyle didn't know or care, so he put his head down and went to sleep. He looked at Beth before he did though, and she was already asleep.

----------------------------------------

At the end of the lesson, Kyle was woken up by the person next to him.

"Dude, class is over." The person said and they walked out of the room. Kyle got up and looked around. Beth was still asleep at her desk and Florianne was just waiting behind him. Micky and Jocelyn had left.

"You really slept about all class long." Florianne said behind him. She was a few feet from him but did not wake him up.

"Yeah, theses classes are stupid. I need to wake Beth up." Kyle walked over to Beth and shook her awake.

"Wake up Beth, or it's 20 paddles." Kyle was referring to the paddles from Mrs. Skorva in the Thornberry school.

"You're the only one who ever got paddles." Beth woke up a stretched a little. She could tell it was Kyle by his voice, and it was true that out of the two of them only Kyle got paddles. Over a 100.

"Hey Kyle, we should be getting to Healing." Florianne walked to the door and waited for Kyle to come with her.

"Alright. See ya at lunch Beth." Kyle followed Florianne out of the room and they both went to Healing. When they got there, they only had a few minutes until it began.

"Huh, Alban isn't here." Kyle looked around and did not see Alban, so he only guessed that Jocelyn had gotten Micky to do something.

"Oh he isn't? Haha, that's funny." Florianne was having a hard time faking it. Florianne knew what she did.

Healing class was very elementary. Very basic. Very boring. The students healing the monster in a box a few times, and then some fancy medical knowledge was thrown around. Kyle understood all of it, but the others only understood a small amount.

----------------------------------------

When the class let out, Kyle and Florianne walked to the cafeteria together. This was when Florianne initiated her backup plan.

"Hey Kyle, would you like to go into the city with me this Saturday?" Florianne proposed the date without interruption. She did not stutter, trip on the flat floor, swap word positions, or spit uncontrollably.

"The city? Sure. Is anyone else coming?" Kyle just wanted to hear her say it.

'Say it Florianne, say "Just me and youuuuuu!"'

"No, it would be just me and you." They were almost at the cafeteria. Florianne and Kyle would have to wrap this up soon.

"Sounds like a data!" Kyle was pushing his luck with how much he could instigate Florianne.

"What?! Who told you that?" Florianne acted a little embarrassed and quickened her pace to the cafeteria.

"You just did! But yeah, I'd love to go." Florianne stopped walking and Kyle almost bumped into her. She turned around and was smiling.

"Okay, meet me by the school entrance, Saturday morning at 9." Florianne completed her circle and went into the cafeteria.

"Okay, Saturday at 9." Kyle confirmed the time and followed Florianne into the cafeteria.

----------------------------------------

They got their lunch and went to sit down with Micky and Jocelyn again, and Beth was already at the table on the far left end where Kyle sat the other day.

"Hey guys." Kyle said as he came up to the table.

"Hey Florianne, hey Kyle." Jocelyn said to them both, but was giving Florianne looks. A few changed expressions later and she went back to normal.

Kyle and Florianne sat down and started on their lunches. Everyone else had already started, but they had not gotten far.

"Kyle," Beth turned to Kyle between eating her chunks of food. It was another mystery meat.

"There is a training area on the west side of the school. I can help you practice your spells this weekend if you want to meet me there." Beth was not dumb. She knew Kyle hid how much he knew about spells, even if she did not know why anymore.

"There is it..." Jocelyn muttered across the table. She expecting this kind of thing from Beth, but no so soon. It was a good thing she Florianne to act quickly.

"Sorry Beth, but i'm going into the city with Florianne on Saturday, so I'm only able to on Sunday." Kyle was not going to hide if from Beth that he made plans for that day, and he was not going to break the plans up. Jocelyn's plan to make that date happen was at least 16 hours in the making, and Florianne had been trying for opportunities to present it all morning.

"Well um... Then Sunday is fine." Beth was fine with the date between Kyle and Florianne.

'Is this the same girl who got jealous from me walking with my neighbor back home from school?' Kyle remembered what Beth did, and it was only a year and a half ago for Beth. It was twice as long for Kyle because of the soul realm time effect.

"Okay, I'll bring the necessary things." Kyle knew that Beth actually wanted to learn from him, and she would not be able to teach him anything. He was going to write down some chants before coming and if anyone asked where he got them, say an older student wrote them down.

----------------------------------------

Lunch ended, 3rd period came and went. Micky and Jocelyn were a tag team of classroom bullies, and they had everyone in Earth magic scared of them. When 4th period came, Micky was not so much of a threat. Micky was very good at Earth magic, for an 8 year old. He was average when it came to Fire magic though.

At the end of 4th period, Kyle and Beth got something to eat and decided to not join the rest who came in latter.

"So you're going into the city on Saturday?" Beth said while pushing her peas around on the tray.

"Well, I don't have any clothes other than the ones I have on me, and I haven't left the school for a while." Kyle looked down at his clothes. They were a little dirty, but the robe protected them from the outside.

"Then, meet me at the training area at 14:00 on Sunday." Beth ate the rest of her food and Kyle quickly did the same.

Beth was fine with the date on the condition that Kyle helps her with her magic the next day.
