Arc 1 - 38 - Enrolling

The carriage ride to Vegaville was uneventful this time. There were two other boys in the carriage with Kyle, and they both had Fire Ice Earth. They did not have money to enroll with them, but would be visiting relatives in Vegaville who had the money.

Kyle tried to talk with them about using magic, but the two of them had only ever used [Flame]. Kyle used the spell [Form], the basic earth spell, and it got some shocked looks.

"Wow, you can already use magic like that?" One of the boys said.

"You must have some really strong magician parents!" The other one said.

'You can probably learn this kind of spell at the library. Kids these days need to take advantage of their resources.' Kyle did not understand the children not having already tried to learn spells from their types. When he was a child in his first life, Kyle jumped on the chance to learn new spells.

As the carriage got closer to Vegaville, Kyle could see a few more in the distance. They were coming from the south, but Carriages were also coming from the south-west and south-east. In total, about 5 carriages were coming into the city at the same time they were.

The wait at the city gate was longer than the last time, and the insides of the carriages had to be inspected. It was sometime in the afternoon when the carriage was let through the gate and entered the city.

The city was much more busy, and it took 2 hours to get to the mage school. The mage school was huge and on the northern part of the city. The gates were as wide as the road, and could fit 3 carriages in them. Kyle took his case and departed into the school grounds.

There was a line of people waiting to enter 3 tents, and a sign was at the back of the line that said 'New Enrolls'. Kyle got into this line and waited for it to get shorter. In front of him in line was a group of 2 girls and a boy, all talking to each other.

"Too bad it took almost all day to get here." A girl with black hair said.

"Yeah, I really wanted to do some shopping before the day ended." A girl with blonde hair said.

"Hey, you can go shopping with me tomorrow." The boy with brown hair said.

"But if you go shopping I don't want to be some 3rd wheel." The girl with black hair complained. She was upset at how well her two friends got together, and she wanted some too.

"If you don't to be a 3rd wheel, just be a 4th wheel." The boy with brown hair said and then turned to Kyle.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Micky Jill." Micky stuck out his hand for Kyle to shake.

"Um, nice to meet you Micky. My name is Kyle Mercer." Kyle shook Micky's hand and looked at the rest of his companions.

'If black-hair is going to become the 4th wheel, I guess he intends to make me the 3rd.'

"Hi, I'm Jocelyn Jill." The girl with blonde hair said. She grabbed onto Micky's arm and was very friendly with him.

"Hey, soon you will be." Micky looked at Jocelyn, and Kyle guessed the two of them were not related.

"Introduce yourself." Jocelyn gave a nudge on black-hair's side as she looked at Kyle.

"I'm Florianne Charis." The girl with black hair spoke, but she was slightly nervous.

"Nice to meet you all." Kyle was glad to have made friends so quickly. It was quite lucky for 3 people who needed another member of their group to be in front of him in line.

"What are your magic types?" Jocelyn asked him and was almost bouncing on Micky's arm.

"I have full types." Kyle told them. If anyone saw his magic card, they would learn that fact, so it was no use hiding it.

"I don't believe you." Micky said, and he had and annoyed look. Micky right now felt that the person he tried to make friends with was lying to him, and it did not feel good.

"Take a look at my magic card." Kyle reached into his pocket and pulled his magic card. It had his name, his date of birth, and the 6 types on it.

"Wow, he wasn't lying." Micky said, and even Jocelyn and Florianne had surprised looks. None of them had ever seen full types, so to them Kyle was a one-in-a-million person.

"Well, I know it isn't as great as that, but me and Micky both have Fire Ice Earth." Jocelyn was not holding onto Micky as much anymore, but she still wanted to brag about herself and Micky having matching types.

"I have Fire Ice Healing." Florianne spoke up, and was still surprised that Kyle had all 6 types.

'I wonder what they would do if they saw the brightness...' Kyle wondered while he looked at the tents at the end of the lines. Kyle could see someone leading children into the tents, and then a minute or two later the children exited the back of the tents.

"Having Healing is really rare, though not as much as full types." Jocelyn saw that Kyle did not say anything for a while, so she spoke.

"Yeah, Healing mages are supposed to be able to make a lot of money." Kyle knew how much healing mages were needed in the 1st district of Thornberry, but mana was not infinite and it did not recharge instantly.

"Looks like it's your turn Jocelyn." The group was at the front of the line now, and Jocelyn went first. Micky went second, and Florianne went third.

"See ya on the other side." Florianne said as she went into a tent.

Kyle waited for about a minute and then went into a tent.

"Present your magic card." It was an old man, probably in his 40's but looked older and fatter. In the center of the tent was a crystal ball for testing magic types, and Kyle was worried.

'Oh man, he'll see my other 2 types...' Kyle was worried that something might happen and his status or summoning magic could get exposed, and he handed over his magic card.

"Kyle Mercer huh? I've heard of you. Supposed to let you in without a fee or test. Congratulations for the 6 types." The man handed back the magic card and gave Kyle a ribbon and a slip of paper with a number on it.

"That number is your room number in the boy's dorm. Don't lose that ribbon or let it get damaged."

"Alright. I can leave now?" Kyle was happily surprised. He got in without hassle.

"Yep, just don't go around telling people we let you in without a test, some students might get jealous of you." The man went to the opening of the tent and waiting for Kyle to leave, and when he did the man called another person in.

Kyle was now a student at the mage school of Vegaville.

----------------------------------------

"That was fast." Micky commented when he saw Kyle coming out of the tent before even Florianne came from her's.

"Yeah, I just did the test and gave him the coins then left." Kyle made up some stuff because of what the man suggested.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"You paid in coins?" Jocelyn was surprised at what Kyle said.

"Yeah, so what?" Kyle did not know what was strange. He thought everyone paid with coins.

"Well, we paid with notarized 50,000 coin transfer slips." Micky said it like it was ordinary, but Kyle had never heard of this before.

"What is that?" Kyle used money in the past, but he had never heard of a notarized transfer slip.

"It is when you want to pay someone a large amount of money but don't want to carry the coins." Micky explained the notarized transfer slip, and in reality it was safer than carrying coins.

The notarized transfer slip had two halves. One for the buyer and one for the seller. Each side had the same information though, name of the buyer, name of the seller, amount of coins being transferred, and the date the notarized transfer slip was made. There was also a line for the buyer to sign and date. The notarized transfer slip could only be gotten at a bank with at least the balance of the transfer inside the bank.

"It's not important though, hey what is your room number?" Micky asked what Kyle's room number and pulled out his own paper from his pocket. As he did this, Florianne came up to the group.

"I've got room 72." Kyle read the number on the paper and told the group.

"I've got room 47." Micky read his room number.

"I've got room 129." Jocelyn read her room number.

"I've um, got um, room 134." Florianne had crumbled up the paper and put it in her pocket before joining the group, and was not expecting to have to pull it from per pocket so soon.

"We should meet up in the morning for the entrance." Micky suggested as the four of them walked. There were signs that pointed to the boys and the girls dorms.

"Yeah, let's meet right here tomorrow morning." Jocelyn said, as she pointed at the ground.

"Okay, sounds like a plan." Kyle agreed to it.

"Right then." Florianne was fine with it too.

----------------------------------------

The four of them split up into two groups, Jocelyn and Florianne headed to the girls dorm, Kyle and Micky to the boys dorm. They were on opposite sides of the school grounds, and Kyle was saddened by how far it was.

'No midnight trips for some peeking.' Kyle thought as he continued to the boys dorm. Kyle had been feeling very strange lately, and was not as interested in grown women like he was just a year ago. The girl's his own age were looking better all the time, and less like snotty brats.

"Sucks that we have to have a roommate." Micky wanted to sneak Jocelyn into the boys dorm, but roommates prevented people being sneaked in to a certain degree.

"I wonder what my roommate will be like..." Kyle had not had many friends this life, and these 3 he just made took the initiative. Kyle hoped his roommate would not be some kind of slob.

Kyle entered the boys dorm with Micky and they both went to the 2nd floor. The 1st floor had 25 rooms and the bath, and the 2nd floor had 50 rooms. Kyle's room was almost at the end of the hall.

Kyle said goodbye to Micky and then went to his own room. The door was open a little, and when he opened it, a squeaky voice greeted him.

"wh-wh-who-who-who's there?" A short kid with glasses and suspenders was laying out clothes on both of the beds in the room and he turned around to look at Kyle when he heard the door open.

"This is room 72 right? I was assigned here." Kyle looked at the total nerd organizing his own clothes on both beds, and felt it was a bad omen.

"Oh yeah, it's room 72. You are the roommate?" The kid with glasses pushed them up on his nose and then went back to organizing his clothes.

"I think we are roommates. What's with all the clothes?" Kyle was a little upset at his roommate's wording, but was confused at all the clothes. Their was at least 10 sets.

"Okay roommate, these are my clothes. I have an allergy to certain fabrics and have to wear special clothes." The nerd once again pushed his glasses up and took a glance at Kyle before returning to his work on the clothe's organization.

"But don't we have to wear robes here? I'm Kyle by the way." Kyle remembered seeing some of the returning students, and they all had blue robes on.

"Hm... I'll just wear these under the robe and it will be fine. Hi roommate, i'm Tyler." Once again, the nerd glanced at Kyle and pushed his glasses up.

"Which of these beds is mine Tyler?" Kyle was a little irritated that Tyler called him 'roommate' even after knowing his name. He was also irritated that no bed was free for him, like Tyler expected to have them both.

"I get sensitive to light, so you can have the one near the window." Tyler kept moving his clothes around on the beds.

Kyle looked between Tyler and the clothes on the bed next to the window for a few seconds and then got even more angry. 'You don't have, and never will have, wonderful tits.'

"[Gust]" Kyle swept across the bed with his wind magic after saying the chant, and all the clothes were blown onto the floor.

"Hey! What did you do that for!" Tyler panicked and picked up the clothes from the floor, stuffing them all in his hands.

"You said this was my bed, but then made no effort to clear your stuff from it. I have things to organize too." Kyle stepped forward to the bed and placed his case on it. There was the new clothes he bought with Elena a while ago and a normal set of clothes inside the case, along with a stick and some paper, pens, and ink bottles.

"I was right about to get my stuff from it!" Tyler pushed his glasses up again, but did not look at Kyle, he was still picking up his clothes.

"Then you should have said something." Kyle placed his two sets of clothes in the top draw of a dresser, and then closed the suitcase and placed it on top of the dresser. Kyle plopped down on to the bed and relaxed. Carriage rides really took it out of him.

"I think we need to establish some rules here roommate." Tyler finished picking up his clothes and looked at Kyle.

"You call me roommate one more time and i'll cast Flame on your clothes. My name is Kyle." Kyle was not going to take it anymore. He had to sleep in the same room as this person, and it would be a nightmare if it continued how it was going.

"Just don't touch my clothes, I've got-"

"Yeah, very sensitive skin, I know." Kyle closed his eyes and tried to sleep. He didn't even bother cleaning up first, he just didn't want to leave the room and have Tyler fuck with his side while he was gone.
