Arc 1 - 28 - Milady

Kyle lead Beth into the second room and stepped past the bodies. They were not dead, but if they warmed up too slow or just stayed how they were for a few minutes, they would die.

"Kyle, what did you do?" Beth asked. She saw Kyle used his magic without chanting, and he untied the bindings somehow. There wasn't even a spell that could do that.

"Don't worry about it Beth, everything's fine!" Kyle said cheerfully.

'Everything is NOT fine!' Kyle was panicking. Not only had he used his special magic in front of Beth, but now it was surely after midnight or within an hour to it. The room was illuminated by a lamp the thugs had, but in the sewer it was pitch black.

"Beth, can you make a Flame spell to light the way?" Kyle asked Beth to make the spell because he had experience here and was going to have to clean the ground in front of them.

"Uh, yeah! [Flame]" Beth made a small flame and held it out to her right in the palm of her hand. Kyle walked in front of her and they moved into the sewer.

The sewer was 5 times worse than it was when he last went into it. Maybe it was from the recent string of hot weather, but it stunk much worse, and the sewage was higher than before.

"Ughe" Beth was grossed out by the stench and the sight of the sewer. She held her left hand up to her nose and continued to hold out the light.

"Alright Beth, just follow me." Kyle cast the earth spell [Transmute] to make the path into solid stone that would not get their shoes dirty, then Kyle used [Flame] with his left hand and dried out the sludge on the wall. With this technique, Kyle and Beth found the exit to the sewer without getting any more dirt on them from what they had in the cell.

"Are you ready?" Kyle asked Beth as they got to the ladder to the surface. A small amount of moonlight was coming down and Beth could put out her spell.

"This is probably in the 1st district, so we might see some questionable people." It was a good warning to give Beth. She probably had never gone into the 1st district before.

"Yeah, I'm ready." Beth answered back so Kyle held on to her tightly and used his earth magic to create a pillar under them to carry them up. When the pillar reached the top of the ladder, Kyle pushed the cover out of the way and continued his ascent with the pillar.

Kyle could have used [Fly] to go up, but it was very difficult to carry people with [Fly], and Kyle might not have had the strength to pick up Beth. They could have climbed the ladder, but Kyle would have to go first to remove the cover and he did not want to leave Beth in the sewer even for a few seconds. It was a dark and scary place.

At the top of the sewer entrance, Kyle stepped to the side and onto the road with Beth. He then let the pillar crumble into nothing and replaced the cover. They were out of the fire, but not out of the kitchen.

Beth and Kyle currently stood in the 1st district and it was very late at night. Some people were on the side of road, but it was mostly calm. Only a few drunks and degenerates could be seen.

It did not take very much wandering around until a guard stopped them and asked them who they were.

"Are you miss Beth Valheart?" The guard asked Beth as he knelt down to her level. The guard took a glance at Kyle and then back at Beth.

"Yes, I am." Beth said so as she looked at the guard. He had the standard guard uniform that they put on at the barracks, and he had a sword and shield. He seemed like a polite person.

"The guards have been looking for you for quite a while young miss." The guard stood up and looked to his left a bit.

"I will escort you to your home."

"Ah, okay." Beth said, not sure what to think of things. It was surprising that the guards had been looking for her for a while.

"Kyle, you should probably be getting home too." The guard said to Kyle and then he walked off with Beth.

Kyle's father Fred was a guard. When he went to the barracks to tell them about his son having gone off with a female friend and not having come back after two hours, it got plenty of laughs. When he told them about the kids being almost 8 years old though, that changed to worry. It was known that kidnappers and slave traders from the west had come to the Vegaland County and they even confiscated sopor aranea poison.

The sopor aranea poison came from a spider found in the western human empire that would send dozens of it's young to attack an enemy and with just one bite could render them paralyzed. Breathing in the poison would instantly knock out s human and they would not wake up for hours until they were already in the mother's web.

The sopor aranea poison was hard to get, and kidnappers that had it meant serious business. When the guards learned that Fred's son's friend was the daughter of a merchant, everyone in the barracks mobilized.

"Bye Kyle." Beth said before she was gone with the guard.

'Wait, am I not getting an escort?'
