The last year of Education Decree Mandatory Education crashed around Kyle like a tsunami. Words was the same, history was the same, but math was ruined. After he broke his rule, Ms. Helen became a normal person.
'They just... don't have the same perkiness.' Kyle used the full 2 hours of math to observe his holy goddess. He should have never broken the rule, and he was suffering. It was not just Ms. Helen, but like a massive crack that opens the volcano, all women started to lose their lust. Kyle could still use his tangerers, but he got less satisfaction from it each time. This was a dark time in Kyle's life.
Kyle taught Claire how to use the spell [Flame] over the next 8 months, but Claire had a hard time paying attention. All she wanted was to be near Kyle, and did not take the magic serious like Beth did. In those 8 months, Claire could cast [Flame] to the same level as Elena.
Claire's level of knowledge of words was about at the same place as Beth's was at 8 months. On Claire's second day at school, and when walking with Kyle and Beth, she told him about how she heard a story about a kid that got over 100 paddles on the second day of school. Beth laughed at this story, but Claire did not find it funny. She wanted to learn words quickly to avoid paddles.
Kyle tried to teach Claire [Fireball] too, but she was not picking up on it. No matter how much it was demonstrated for her, Claire would always fail to launch the ball of flame. What Kyle didn't know was that Claire was actually deliberately messing up her attempts to cast the spell so that Kyle would have to keep coming by to help her with it.
Just like she said, Beth came with Kyle every day. School let out at 3:40, and at about 4:00 Beth Kyle and Claire were at the Drought house. From 4:00 till the first signs of dusk, Kyle tried to teach Claire magic while Beth trained her mana and Claire goofed off. When it started to get a little dark, Kyle took Beth home, and then about 30 minutes later went home himself. It was a good system that got him home before 9 on most nights.

Sometimes while coming back from Claire's home, Beth would talk to Kyle about the future. It was becoming a little dark out, and the season was changing into summer. It was warm out, and even though Kyle had the same clothes he always had, Beth had a pleasant dress probably made at her father's shop.
"Were almost 8, and then we'll be going to mage school." Beth wanted to become better at magic, and believed that the mage school might have more information for her. Kyle did not know what the mage school had in it, he just knew it only accepted students at too late of an age.
"You might, but I think I am going to just start practicing my magic." There were not many people nearby, so it was fine to talk about their magic. They walked to Beth's home everyday when it was near dark and not too many people walked on the road. It was around May, so Beth would be turning 8 in just a few weeks and her using magic would not be a problem. A few weeks after that, school would be out.
Kyle did not want to go to mage school. Elena had wanted him to, and they had not spoke about it since he came out as already knowing magic. For one, he knew it would put a huge financial strain on the house. Mage school was 50,000 coins for 7 years of education in the magical arts. It included meals and board. That came to an average of about 20 coins a day.
This might not seem like a lot, but the mage school took an average of 350 students every year, making the total income from new enrolls every year over 17,000,000 coins.
For 50,000 coins, the Mercers would have to get a loan, or they might have to contact Fred's parents who own a restaurant in a nearby town. Elena did not expect the cost to be so much, and she was shocked when she saw on the flier at the school.
"But you have to, I don't want to be alone in Vegaville." Beth did not know many people. She also did not know anyone who might be able to use magic other than Kyle. The only mage school around was in Vegaville, and it was 8 hours from Thornberry.
"Well, I might be able to..."
