At the guild office, Kyren, Hiro, and Alaine found Lili immersed in reading books about mind-controlling spells, ensuring she would not fail in her task.
"Yo! Are you ready, Kyren?" Lili stood up and gestured for Kyren to take a seat.
"Yeah," Kyren replied nervously.
As Hiro and Alaine watched from the sidelines, Lili began to chant a spell, her wand pointed at Kyren's face. "Lady Arramaya, one of your creatures loses its vision..." Lili's voice took on a mystical quality as her eyes glowed a light green, her aura enveloping the room. "We beg you for your extraordinary and infinite power to guide him to find his way... and use me as a tool to help him." The wand flashed a bright light into Kyren's eyes. "NOW! MEMORY TRANSCEND!"
...
Both Kyren and Lili lost consciousness, with Kyren's head dropping onto the table as Alaine hurried to support Lili, preventing her from collapsing to the floor.
...
After a few moments, Kyren regained consciousness, looking around in confusion. "What happened?" he asked, noticing Alaine and Hiro assisting Lili onto the couch.
"Yes, she'll be fine and wake up soon," Alaine reassured him.
Shortly after, Lili also regained consciousness. "Do you see something, Lili?" Alaine inquired.
Lili's expression turned slightly somber. "Kyren... I don't know if I executed the spell perfectly.... I couldn't see anything from your past. It feels like your soul just transferred to that body. However, I did find something unclear. Before you woke up, I saw a picture of a nearby forest, your body dripping by the river through Vermint Town."
"Could it be..." Alaine began to contemplate.
"Yes, maybe you ventured into the mythical Forest of Paramnesia," Lili said.
"The Forest of Paramnesia?" Kyren confused.
"Oh, Kyren, it makes sense. I forgot to mention that outside the Verboten Gate, there's a weird forest in our realm. Everyone who goes there forgets their memories," Hiro explained.
"Maybe I'm a scientist instead?" Kyren speculated.
"No, I don't think so," Alaine disagreed. "Scientists would hire mid to top-level guilds to protect them while exploring the forest, and there are high-level healers/sorcerers who can resist the magical spells occurring there," she added.
A moment of silence enveloped the room as everyone thinking of Kyren's situation.
"The only possible answer and conclusion to your past may lie on the other side of the forest, at Tower Watch #2. Maybe you belonged there, and for an unknown reason, you accidentally ventured into the forest," Alaine suggested.
"THEN WE SHOULD GO THERE, I GUESS?" Hiro exclaimed eagerly.
"It's not possible now..." Lili interjected.
"But why?" Hiro questioned.
"You can't go there freely. It's a high-risk place, and the other side of the Tower Watch's gate belongs to the Darklord's Territory. The only way we can go there is by undertaking A to S-rank missions, but our guild isn't ready for that," Alaine explained solemnly.
As the weight of their situation settled over them, Kyren couldn't help but feel a sense of helplessness.
"So, the only way is to get stronger, huh..." Kyren mused silently, his mind racing with thoughts.
"I'll try to talk to the AL member who's in charge here in our town tomorrow and ask what we can do about it," Alaine determined to help Kyren still strong.
"It's enough, Alaine. Thank you so much Alaine... Lili... I think I know what I must do for now. I need to get stronger, so the Academy really is the first thing that Hiro and I need to accomplish. I'm okay now, and thank you, Hiro. You were right. I think I'll just go with the flow and enjoy this journey of being a new person," Kyren concluded.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"Are you sure?" Alaine asked.
"Yeah, instead of chasing a fragment of my past, I'll focus on building myself up first," Kyren concluded firmly.
"That's what I'm talking about, Kyren," Hiro chimed in.
"If you say so, then let's call it a day," Alaine agreed.
"Yeah," Kyren affirmed.
"Okay, so tomorrow, make sure you remember what Patricia wants you to bring. I'll be going now with Lili," Alaine informed them.
"OF COURSE! I'LL EQUIP ALL OF YOUR ARMOR HERE, I'M READY FOR IT," Hiro exclaimed.
"Ok, See you guys tomorrow, Let's go Lili." Alaine said.
...
After Alaine and Lili left, Kyren and Hiro rested, Hiro fall asleep fast while Kyren is recollecting and trying to connect the information of his past.
"Forest of Paramnesia huh? is that really where the answers are?" Kyrens thought. "What's with this world.... It seem like so many mysteries that It didn't make sense but really occurring..." after a couple of moments he close his eyes. "Ahh, maybe I should sleep too, I'm overthinking again."
...
"After falling asleep, Kyren entered his nightmarish realm once again. This time, he saw Hiro, Alaine, Patricia, and the other members of the guild imprisoned, with unfamiliar silhouette creatures torturing them.
"Kyren! Help us!" Hiro's face looked antagonized and helpless.
Kyren tried to come closer, but found himself tied to a chair with his mouth covered, forced to watch the evil scene unfold. Hiro was stabbed by one of the creatures in the chest, brutally bleeding to death.
This caused Kyren to panic, desperate to escape this moment of terror.
"Whahahaha," Kyren heard the familiar girl from his nightmares, and he looked to his side where the sound was coming from.
"Whmm... Whmm," Kyren tried to speak but couldn't.
The girl walked toward him, saying, "So soon... so sooooooooooon...."
Suddenly, Kyren was snapped back to reality, blinded by the morning sunlight.
"ARRRGHH!" Kyren groaned, feeling uneasy about his sleep.
"Kyren! Hurry up!" Hiro exclaimed, fully prepared, equipped with heavy armor and holding his sword. "They'll be here soon."
Kyren realized his nightmare reoccurred again. "Wait Hiro, I need a some time..." with his voice still carrying the tension from his nightmare.
Hiro noticed it. " The nightmare again huh?" Hiro offered a water.
"Thank.. you..." Kyren said.
"Don't worry Kyren look at us now, there's so many people helping us, you can overcome all of this, I mean.... we can." Hiro said.
"Yeah." Kyren stood up and go to bath and prepare for their first real training.
After Kyren is done, the two joking around about their suit.
"Kyren, that looks awful to you, it doesn't matches your style." Hiro said.
"Well, I have really no intention on wearing this if it's not for the training." Kyren said.
"HAHAHAHA! but we really look like a real warrior doesn't it?" Hiro looked at the mirror and see both of their selves.
Knock-Knock....
"They are finally here." Hiro rushed to the door to opened.
...
"WHAT?" Hiro was shocked. "Why are you wearing a bikini Alaine? are you not going to join us in our training?" he saw Alaine is in sunglasses and two piece.
Alaine just smile, while Patricia is in the back holding a plastic ball wearing a same attire as Alaine.
"YOU TOO? PATRICIA, ARE YOU GUYS TROLLING US?" Hiro.
"Boy, of course not. We’re heading to the beachside for your training, and we’re gonna have a little celebration—might even throw a welcome party for both of you" Patricia said.
"Then why are we wearing this?" Hiro said.
"We don't entertain any questions more, come with us." Alaine said.
...
After they arrived at the beachside, the townspeople looked at them, making them the center of attention due to their unusual attire for the beach.
"Kyren, they've got us! I can't believe it," Hiro said.
Kyren just made a meh face agreeing that they got being trolled.
..
"Okay, boys, it's time for training," Patricia wasted no time. "From now on, you'll run back and forth on this sandy beach, with the water at between your knees and feet. run as much as you can."
"I see, so this armor and sword will act as weights," Kyren remarked.
"Correct! Your goal today is to run until the afternoon. Then, you can join us here for lunch," Patricia instructed.
"Oh, I get it now!" Hiro nodded proudly. "Kyren, let's go, let's do it."
The two began jogging warming up, while Alaine, Patricia, Lili, and Roland prepared to play beach volleyball. The other members started preparing their food.
"Man, this suit is really heavy. I don't think I can last for an hour in this," Hiro complained.
Meanwhile, Kyren was determined to improve himself, focused on his jogging.
"Kyren," Hiro said, breaking the silence. "What do you think will happen to us in the future?"
At that question, Kyren remembered his nightmare from the previous night, causing him to slow down.
"Are you okay, Kyren?" Hiro asked, concerned.
"Yeah, I just had a bad rest because of that nightmare," Kyren replied, trying to shake off the unease.
"I see. I mean, what do you think will happen at the Sky Academy, to be specific?" Hiro inquired. "It's unfair, isn't it? We have to start at the very bottom while others have an advantage."
"Yeah, that's right," Kyren agreed.
"But I think we can catch up with them through hard work, I guess," Hiro said optimistically. "And I've got you, and you've got me. Maybe if we always have each other's backs, that's really one more important piece that we have," Hiro added.
Kyren picked up his pace, running faster.
"Wait, are we running now? Are you finished warming up?" Hiro asked, trying to catch up with Kyren.
"Yeah, like you said, we need to have each other's backs," Kyren replied.
"Of course! But what's the connection to this?" Hiro tried to understand what Kyren was trying to explain.
"Before we can compete with others, I think we need to compete with ourselves first, Hiro. Let's make this a competition, the first one who give up loses we will record it." Kyren suggested.
"AHH! I SEE! SO WE NEED TO COMPETE WITH EACH OTHER AND PUSH OUR LIMITS! THAT SOUNDS GOOD, KYREN!" Hiro exclaimed, overtaking Kyren's pace.
