043.7 - Dungeon Rewards

Joe’s eye’s rose, a smile forming on his lips as he looked at all his new titles, and quickly brought up what each of the titles meant, careful to ask for all the titles simultaneously instead of having to bring up each one individually.

HobGoblin King Killer (Title): You have killed the HobGoblin King. While attacking hobgoblins and goblins, gain a ten percent increase to all stats. You can now tame hobgoblins as a pet or a summons for appropriate jobs. You gain several boosts, skills, and spells to directly benefit any hobgoblin pets or summons.

Goblin Throne Usurper (Title): You sat upon the Hobgoblin King’s throne. Gain the ability to tax hobgoblins. Any hobgoblin defeated in combat will have a 1% increase in chance to drop items.

Dungeon Destroyer (Title): You have defeated a dungeon. You gain a small increase to stats while in dungeons. You gain a small increase to any treasures in dungeons for all treasure gained in a specific dungeon (1%).

Dungeon Conqueror (Title): You can now control the number of monsters that appear in dungeons around you. You may slightly increase or reduce the rate at which they recreate or slightly increase or reduce the level they are worth. (1%)

Titular Master (Title): Acquiring so many unique titles and blessings has turned you into a veritable nightmare for any marshal, herald, butler, or majordomo who might have to announce your presence. Gain one stat point for each stat per title or blessing you acquire.

Fearless (Title): You have slept in a dungeon without anyone guarding you or without anyone of higher level guarding you. Singular Title. Fear or fear attacks effect you less.

Lesser Walker (Title): You have defeated a small dungeon then chose to walk out instead of Escape it.

Dungeon traversal is now significantly easier.

Joe read through each and didn’t really feel much excitement until he reached dungeon conqueror. Nice… I can increase spawn rates… hmm… is it a bit like the legendary killers and king killers where they stack if I do it more than once? Joe’s mind wandered over the possibilities before continuing to Titular Master and a huge grin broke out on his face. That’s… really nice!

Joe flipped over to his status really quick to check it out and realized that it would be very difficult to really see what kind of effect it had on his stats until he got to his luck and his eye’s boggled quite a bit as he knew he’d never had that much luck. It was the one stat that proved incredibly difficult to improve.

Twenty eight luck?! That’s… that’s… Joe flipped back to his titles and counted them up, finding only fifteen, which meant he had thirteen luck naturally and he couldn’t remember ever having double digit luck.

He scrambled up from the bed and pulled out his notebook as he scrambled through his notes, checking out each of the jobs he had and running the numbers for what his luck should be based on his job stats. After a flipping through page after page of zeros, Joe found only six jobs which gave luck, and each of them actually give quite miniscule amounts. Crunching the numbers turned out to be annoying as he had to multiple his current job level and the luck he would gain for each job until he finally came to a number of sixteen and a quarter and he only got ten percent of that since his current job, commoner, gave him no luck at all. So his actual luck should only be 1.625. This explained his point six three luck he had, which meant he was getting twenty seven luck from somewhere else.

Joe counted his titles again carefully before frowning, wondering where the extra twelve luck was coming from. His eyes trailed down the titles before a smile slipped to his lips and he recounted the titles he had, including all the duplicates he had. Satisfaction settled across his shoulders and he put his notebook back after he took a second to make a note of this specific title in it. Glancing back at his twenty seven titles he had, fifteen unique and twelve duplicates, Joe smiled a bright smile and looked at the duplicate titles which now had a very significant effect on his stats. These counted as base stats, which meant that his base level zero stats in any job were now twenty seven points higher for all his stats.

Joe turned back to look at his other titles, but skimmed them and found them lackluster although the last one gave him pause as he wondered what it would mean to “Escape” the dungeon. How else do you escape a dungeon without walking out? Is there a teleport out? Maybe?

Joe turned to the other three, just about to ask about that when a knock came at his door and he turned his attention to his soon to come bath instead. He opened the door and directed the two boys of where to manhandle the barrel like tub into the corner of the room. The two boys bowed slightly after they were done and told them they would be back up with some buckets of water to fill in the tub before slipping back out of the room.

The three had fallen silent and Joe looked over to see all three glancing back and forth between him and the tub. Joe noticed then explained quickly to Garnedell, “A bath.”

“Oh. Yes, I see,” Garnedell quickly responded but then looked to Kilniara with some embarrassment.

Joe caught Garnedell’s look and turned to Kilniara, “Don’t worry. You’ll get a bath, too. Would you mind going to your room while we finish ours? We’ll let you go first next time and swap back and forth who gets the hot water first.”

Kilniara nodded and turned to her room, leaving the boys behind. Once she had gone, Joe began loosening his clothes, although he took nothing off, not wanting to surprise the water carriers soon coming back.

“Oh, right. There is a way to escape a dungeon that you have conquered.”

Garnedell turned to Joe, then quickly widened his eyes, realizing that Joe would not know this and quickly responded, “Yes master… Joe,” Garnedell flustered when he saw Joe’s frown quirk his lips and quickly changed to his name, “Ah… yes… the way to Escape a dungeon is to use the pedestal.”

A look of relief spread across Joe’s face and he smiled and nodded a quick thanks to Garnedell when he saw Zilnek looking back towards his sister’s room, “Good. You remembered. Then why did we walk out.” Joe quickly disguised this as a teaching lesson and turned it back around on the two.

This time, Garnedell really was stumped, uncertain how to respond, even showing some concern and Joe gave a quick flash of a smile to Garnedell to relax him while Zilnek glanced down in embarrassment at failing or not knowing the answer.

Joe smiled a bit more before answering, feeling quite uncomfortable about pushing this on the other two when it was actually his own ignorance, although he was still quite grateful for Garnedell for covering for him. “You have a new title now,” Joe offered, smiling brightly.

The other two looked up in surprise, then excitement as they look at Joe, Garnedell actually bouncing excitedly.

“It’s not that important of a title, but it is another little nice thing. It is called Lesser Walker. It lets you walk through dungeons more easily, and a little faster, probably,” Joe trailed off and muttered the last word under his breath, not quite certain but sure that it would likely allow for faster travel if it was easier.

The two boys excitedly ask Joe for more information but Joe was unable to give much more than what was already said, and while they were discussing it, the water boys had returned two times to begin filling the tub.

During this, Zilnek had looked at the tub with some confusion a bit, but Joe didn’t say much, pretty sure that when Garnedell and Joe took their bath, Zilnek would get it pretty quick. Once the questions about the title petered out, or at least, Joe’s answers became a repetitive “I don’t know,” Zilnek quickly asked to tell his sister about it and Joe waved him away, allowing him to go into his sister’s room and talk.

Soon, the last of the water was brought up along with the heavy pot full of hot water poured in to heat the water to the perfect temperature. Garnedell pushed Joe to go first, and Joe settled in to bathe, relaxing in warm water for the first time since he’d come. He did let himself luxuriate for a few moments and drifted a bit, ending up spending longer than he should have. Finally, he forced himself out, changed to a clean pair of clothing, then collapsed on his bed, letting Garnedell have his time.

“Let Zilnek know when you’re done so he can have his turn, right?”

“Yes, Joe,” drifted lazily from Garnedell and Joe smiled, eye’s sliding shut as he slipped into a light doze.
